  1. Something tells me that Don Cooper isn't much of a Facebook user
  2. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) The guy sure seems to have a good idea of the strike zone. His last 4 seasons, he averaged about 70 walks per 85 game seasons. He walked in about 20% of his plate appearances, over that 4 years. His 2014 OBP of .509 would likely translate to a pretty decent OBP in the Majors, probably at least .350 to .370. There is really no way to tell how his numbers would translate. Come on now, Abreu hit over .400 in their top league
  3. I guess I'm surprised Joe Blanton is still in the league. Seems like he has been around forever
  4. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 02:34 PM) 5 consecutive finals appearances. Let's talk about the game plan we need to follow to match the teams that have beaten LeBron. 1) Golden State - Draft the best shooter in NBA history with the number 7 pick overall. Draft the second best shooter in the NBA to play with him. 2) San Antonio - Have Greg Popovich hire himself. Be bad at just the right time to draft a Hall of Famer. Grab one of the best defensive players in the game and put him on LeBron. Make sure a perennial All Star playing on the west coast wants to play with you. 3) Dallas - Have an all time great center and play LeBron when the Heat are still putting the team together. What's your plan? The Spurs are the true NBA dynasty. The Warriors are essentially lucky. Who are we going to hire to fix the Bulls? Are you Tony's personal spokesperson? Asking for a friend
  5. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Are you nitetrain's personal spokesperson? Sure man, whatever floats your boat. I have demonstrated many different times that I speak for nitetrain. Good catch
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) here is something to help you... http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/PIT/2015.shtml here is something to help you... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/alvarpe01.shtml career .236/.309/.441 that is good for anywhere from 130-180 strikeouts in a full season. Again, did you think Adam Dunn was a good hitter?
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) when the sox signed dunn, the sox lost a draft pick. The question was whether you thought he was a good hitter. It has nothing to do with compensation or what the contract details were
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) that is a 2 sided question. on the first part, i thought it was an intriguing step, but i never thought it was the route to go, i really like my draft picks.... call me selfish but unless some team gives up an arm and a leg, i want the draft picks. dude, what
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) also lets not forget another level tier 2 type of player. a very good bat. = Pedro Alvarez Did you feel that Adam Dunn was a very good bat?
  10. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) "They've done quite a lot"???? Are you kidding me? What have they done exactly? if you would have read all of what nitetrain posted instead of glossing over the things you disagreed with, you would have seen a lot of the good things that they have done

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) To be fair, IT, Dreamcatcher, Desperation, Salem's Lot and The Stand are also connected. Or at least they exist in the same reality. They made those movies without the references to the larger story. True, but IIRC HiA was written specifically as a companion story to the Dark Tower, whereas the other stories were visited by Roland throughout his travels I may be wrong, its been about 10 years since I read the dark tower series And in reference to Elba, i really dont care that Roland was written with Clint Eastwood in mind. It wouldnt bother me at all if Idris is cast as Roland
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) I don't think the Broncos really care about that. I think New England wins by a TD+ i dont really think it matters if they care or not, I just think the Patriots will be better

This is like the OJ White Bronco car chase. Slow, plodding, nothing happening, a lot of threatening, cops have no interest in stopping it.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) It's connected, much like many of his other books. But they had to cut all those connections out of the movie because most of the audience wouldn't have a clue what they were referring to. And that's just strange, right? Why make a movie which is a small part of a larger story? On a related note, Idris Elba has been cast as Roland Deschaine
  15. This week has been ridiculous

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) A lot of stories are told that way though and many transfer well to film. I was thinking more like the ending of IT. The people that see the ending of the movie always say IT was just a spider? But if you read the book you realize that ending was soo much bigger and more epic than that. IT wasn't *just* a spider. That was just the only physical representation the minds of the characters could come up with. That final confrontation didn't even take place in the physical world. It also connected to a much bigger universe. Hearts in Atlantis is another one that didn't translate all that well. It's one of my absolute favorite books of his, but they really chopped it up for the movie. The bad guys in that movie weren't supposed to be human. But with the way they are described, it would've been difficult to do on film. Wasn't Hearts in Atlantis a Dark Tower side story?

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:06 AM) That's because he pretty much ok's any adaption. Then it's up to the movie people to decide how closely they want to stick to the story in the book. For the most part, the ones that stick closer to the source material seem to be the better ones. The ones that go completely off the reservation (Lawnmower Man is a perfect example) usually turn out to be complete crap. Then there are the adaptions that just don't transfer well from written word to movie/tv screen. I think a lot of that is because Kings writing style is very frequently from the mind of the main character.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 07:03 AM) To be fair, he moved to Safeco. I know, that was my first point
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 06:51 AM) A lot of people thought Granderson was done...look at getting away from Comerica has done for his career. except Jacksons last good year was in Comerica, and his last two dismal years were out of Comerica
  20. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 06:46 AM) Do any of you know why Austin Jackson's career has taken such a dramatic turn for the worse? He had considerable success, at a pretty young age, but the last two years have been bad, by comparison. That is unusual, since he was just entering his "prime". I don't see that he was injured. So, what happened to him? Seattle
  21. Hang them up Peyton. It's time

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) The ending was incredible though. It is. The short story doesnt really have a solid ending, its more like they just keep driving on through the mist, not knowing what is gonna happen. Stephen King movie adaptations are so weird. Some of them like the Green Mile, Shawshank, Misery are just awesome. Some of them like sleepwalkers, pet sematary, lawnmower man are just not good at all.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 03:09 AM) Just watched The Mist. Lordy. The Stephen King adaptation? The short story is better but the movie wasnt bad
