  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) Bears real bad on defense.
  2. Danks is like "Oh yea green? Check this out!"
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 06:18 PM) Avi just missed that. Wow. Dunn but a good swing on it too, Green looks like he is throwing BP so far. Need to rough him up and avoid their pen
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Me either, but I guess we will now get to see for ourselves. Not sure what we have gained if he can't hit, but I am sure someone will say MONEY Im sure you will get over his overrated defense and bad offense at some point. Probably when his replacement does better than him
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) You're funny. No, I'm not obsessed with "lefthandedness". I'm simply pointing out that Sanchez is hitting over 100 points higher as a left handed batter. Does that not suggest to you that he might not be the switch hitter, he apparently aspires to be? If it were me, and I were hitting .325 from the left side, and only .222 from the right side, I might be inclined to see if I could do a little better vs. lefties, by just staying on the left side of the plate. I have no idea how he has done in his brief career, prior to this season, but that is a pretty dramatic split, wouldn't you say? Remember what happened when Jose Valentin tried to stay on one side of the plate? There is one thing you arent taking into account here, Sanchez never faces lefties when he hits from the left side of the plate. His BA from the right side of the plate may be bad, but he could be a black hole facing lefties from the left side of the plate because he simply hasnt done it in his career. Just telling a guy to go do something like that isnt as simple as it sounds.
  6. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) Take a look at C. Sanchez' split stats. He has been terrific batting left handed, vs. RHP: AVG .325 OBP .381 SLG .444 Do you think maybe he should try giving up switch hitting? He's hitting more than 100 points higher, when batting left handed. I personally favor Beckham's successor to be the one who provides outstanding defense, with decent offense. Sanchez has the defensive skills, and so far, has demonstrated pretty good offense, especially for his age. obsessed, you are, with people of lefthandedness. You arent Ned Flanders, by chance?
  7. I think the results in the Belle era were disappointing, but that guy was an absolute wrecking ball in a sox uniform, especially during his hit streak
  8. QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) In what world is Daniel Nava a AAAA bench player? This one. There was supposed to be a slash between AAAA/bench. But the guy was in the minors until he was 28, and Boston has moved on from the idea that he is a starter.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Haha. Honestly, I think that is why I find the Sox team still tough to watch. We don't have those exciting game changing defensive players, outside of Ramirez, who is on his last legs (and extremely underappreciated). Eaton is fun to watch but our corner outfielders are atrocious and we are below average at 3B and quite frankly 2B. That might change a bit cause I think Semien / Sanchez will hold there own and while Johnson is more raw, if he ends up there, he can be fine too. Would love to find a strong RF'er so we can move Avisail to LF. In fact, I think we could add 2 OF'ers and then with the depth in the infield be able to do some nice things not needing a full time DH. We really have to find a way to get another quality starter though and do a lot to the pen. I actually think those are what is really holding us back from contending and I dont' know that what we need is in our system either (at least not near turn....and I know we have Rodon, I just think we need 2 guys, so Rodon plus someone). It is why I think if we end up with a top 10 pick, we could really benefit and hopefully be able to land a top right handed pitcher (as I expect that will be our focus). Then try to focus some more money / other spects on athletic position players since we can't freaking develop them ourselves. Hahn may have been very general and speak in a lot of fluff terms this morning, but it was obvious to me that he is pretty disappointed in this season and wants to get this ship pointed in the right direction, and stay pointed in that direction with depth and stability. I think he has some plans for this offseason
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) I also just really like guys with hoses and well he fits the bill. well alrighty then
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) Geez, nitpicking. 90-95% of the reason is directly related to Bradley and their disappointment with his offensive development, and even though they have Betts coming behind him, he's only had 45 AAA games. In general, EVERYTHING has gone wrong with the Red Sox OF this season. First, Sizemore. Victorino's back surgery. Gomes, Nava and Holt underperforming. Even Cespedes has been disappointing so far with Boston. Craig's also having an uncharacteristic down year and may have peaked. Craig is having a typical injury filled season, dont fool yourself. the guy is fragile
  12. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) Fairly certain he's in their plans if they JUST signed him. No, because Nava and Sizemore and things
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) That's crazy. Can't believe Cherington would do that. Granted, Jackie Bradley, Nava and Sizemore were huge disappointments, but wow. They also have Betts (blocked by Pedroia at 2B), Cespedes next year...well, even the vaunted Red Sox don't have complete success because this move smacks of desperation, and a lack of available options on the FA market. Finally, Shane Victorino is under contract as well for 2015, I'm pretty sure. What do they have to do with Castillo? a DFAed free agent, AAAA bench player and first full season player have no impact on Castillo
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) You can't really compare Danks and Dunn because: 1) Danks came to our team when he was very young and is considered part of the White Sox "family" 2) His brother is also on the team 3) 2008 Blackout Game memories still linger for some 4) The fact that Danks' lack of effectiveness can be blamed on his career-altering injury, vs. laziness or "not caring" or whatever people say about Dunn 5) The fact that expectations were so high that Dunn was the final piece when he was added in 2011, having gone through a season where Jim Thome being on the Twins made a huge difference not making them playoffs despite the 26-5 run in mid-2010. 6) The fact that Dunn's never made the playoffs 7) Dunn's 2011 was chronicle in the NY Times for its historic abysmal nature, whereas Danks criticism is about fastball velocity, location, homers surrendered, leaving balls out over the plate, peripherals....you just can't equate them when you talk about total flops and then take into consideration what we were being sold at the time by KW QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) That's pretty subjective. yes. yes it is

    2014 Films Thread

Saw Amazing Spider Man 2 last night. Hard to believe that was from the same director, not pleased with that effort.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) Held on too long and ended up giving him away. Would have liked to seen a trade for someone else's failed top prospect. The utter, and inexplicable, lack of a sense of urgency to deal in July under the vain notion that this team was still in it, will retard this rebuild. I love how you keep pounding this as if you know that Hahn had no urgency to deal any players. Gordon was like 0 for 40 in the middle of July, it isn't as if he was looking like a great player to trade for. This team sucked at the worst possible time and Hahn couldn't move anyone. Urgency has nothing to do with it, contention had nothing to do with it
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) I hope Hawk's ok No more cheese straws. Sully is not happy
  18. That guy seemed to have a "die by police" suicide planned out. He stole that stuff, set it out for everyone to see, waited for the police to show, immediately drew his knife and walked towards them saying "kill me". Unless they showed up with rubber bullets ready or taser ready, That guy was gonna die
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 11:55 AM) By anyone you actually mean me. Apparently anybody else can go there and it's fine. Criticism of universities and programs is fine, we draw the line with any poster who is a fan of any university when it gets personal. And it wasnt just your posts that were approaching and straddling the line.
  20. Rose is going to play the next game vs Puerto Rico supposedly
