  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 04:32 PM) I knew that it was a mistake to mention Sizemore. Look, that just happens to be my preference for what might be an affordable solution to finding one of the two decent bats, without a long term contract. He will surely want to sign for no more than all of 2014, and hope to prove himself, so that he can sign a better long term deal. That could suit the Sox You said all of this in the offseason, and through April and May, and the guy still hasn't signed or played with any team. You can't trust this guy. He is fragile. I'm not gonna suggest someone right now because I have no idea who is available
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) Was Snyder's Superman even any good? I somehow avoided that, because 1- Superman is lame, 2- bad reviews, 3- Superman is lame. That's coming from a dork who ate up Superman comic books. I haven't seen yet, but a few friends of mine loved it. Brian didn't like it, but his favorite movie is The Notebook so I discounted his opinion.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) I'm highly intrigued in who plays Batman. DC should just back up the truck for Bale, but Superman doesn't fit into the Nolan universe. Obviously, JGL would be a nice call, but I just don't think those worlds can collide. It is a huge choice. I honestly think Bale is a man of his word, the cape is hung up regardless of money. Whoever plays Batman will need that intensity. The one thing I am really happy about in all of this is that David Goyer is writing this. He is the hidden genius in Nolan's batman movies and Snyders Superman.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) There is literally nothing about a Batman/Superman team-up that appeals to me. Basically Batman brings absolutely nothing to the table in such a situation unless you use the kryptonite crutch. The source comics for this are some of the best selling comics ever written. The Dark Knight Returns was an amazing comic. This movie will set up the tension between the two characters leading into The Justice League movie.
  5. @Schumouse: Garza yanked from start tonite...deal near We are close to seeing where the market will be set for Peavy
  6. David Schuster @Schumouse: Garza yanked from start tonite...deal near
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) I guess I need to get started on this....feeling left out Get some of your bucket list stuff out of the way. Once the kids start coming, your time is gone for quite a while
  8. I should change the thread title to "MLB to suspend nobody, do nothing, get punked by the MLBPA" and change the subtitle to "Selig to claim drug testing is the best it has ever been"
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) I heard it was marijuana related I thought recreational drug suspensions were smaller

    2013 TV Thread

Dexter has been slow, but I am interested in where it is going. There are a lot of angles up in the air right now
  11. Congrats to all the new dads!
  12. We should sign Sizemore to a 10 year contract. It isn't often that true middle of the order hitters are laying around and every other MLB team won't touch them.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 06:22 PM) Dude Boston made the playoffs the next year....and in 99 and in 2003. It was 7 years before they won a WS. We had to get a new GM before we won one of those. As your goal here is apparently to stick a thumb in my eye and say "na na na na na" I'll give you some ammo: you could point out the closer on Boston's 2004 WS team was none other than Keith Foulke. Otherwise, I don't know what your point is. I was wondering what your point was as well, bringing up 16 year old trades made 2 GMs ago as if it actually relevant to the current team. I get it, you don't like the front office, but your ability to connect the dots in multiple discussions absolutely sucks.
  14. I saw The Raid: Redemption. What an awesome fight movie
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Double Team starring Dennis Rodman and Jean Claude Van Damme is on TV right now. Just thought everyone deserved to know. WHAT CHANNEL?!?!
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) And, who got the save? Heathcliff Sloc.... wait
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) Keith Foulke had a really nice career, and Howry was great until he got hurt. Caruso was a moron, but he had some ability, and Barcelo was supposed to be the gem of that trade, but he got hurt. True story, he was complaining about a lot of pain and KW called him a p****. It turns out he needed both shoulder and elbow surgery. And Howry and Foulke were key parts of the 2000 team, but we can't mention that. We have to talk about how the Red Sox waited 7 years instead of 3 years for that trade to work out for them .
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) Then you weren't listening or watching. And then you could check out Slocumb's stats from 1997, including his 1.90 WHIP and ERA near 6 and his 17 saves, and then check out Roberto Hernandez and his 27 saves, and tell me who was the better closer and that Seattle wouldn't have taken Roberto in a heartbeat...without even considering the 2 other pitchers the Sox threw in. And the reason I'm bringing this up now is that in this thread, some said we don't want to trade with the Tigers. Just pointing out a specific instance where that philosophy was extremely costly. Ah, of course, I wasn't listening or watching, silly me. Here I am thinking that the needs of the respective teams involved are what was considered. So, since you were in the room when the Sox declined Varitek and Lowe for Hernandez, Darwin and Alvarez, did Schueler specifically say "nope, we don't deal with AL teams" and hang up the phone? I bet the Tigers will never deal with the Braves again after the results of the Smoltz trade 22 years ago.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) I don't care if it was 160 years ago - it's a bad philosophy. And that is precisely why we dealt with the Giants then instead of stealing from the desperate Mariners. If you have to deal with Detroit, deal with Detroit. Yea, we'll have to look at Reed for a while...they'll have to look at Castellanos. And while I never heard Williams say he wouldn't sell to the AL or to our division, he rarely did and only once to a contender as I recall (Durham to Oakland). The other time was E Jax to non-contender Toronto. But he rarely sold in July anyway, so that may not mean much. Of course it is a bad philosophy, that is why nobody has it, including the white sox. Its funny that you put this "we wouldnt deal with the desperate mariners" onus on the White Sox 16 years after the fact, because I never heard anything of the sort. Ever. Please prove me wrong, I would love to read anything that proves this little tinfoil hat theory. Armchair GMs are fun.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) I don't care who we trade him to. Whoever offers the most and the most must be a lot. Castellanos would work fine. We lost out on Veritek and Lowe because of that sorry philosophy of not helping a team in your league...Boston go those two for 1/3 of the value we sent to SF for, essentially, Foulke and Howry. Wtf??!! Those trades happened 16 years ago! And the philosophy is "don't trade within your division", not league. The Sox have made plenty of trades within the American League, both before and after the White Flag trade
  21. I think the Sox should ask for minimum 2 3rd rounders and 3 10th rounders
  22. I wonder if it was a string that was previously broken, or if the ball broke it. She probably has a nice Rawlings tattoo right now
  23. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) Let's not be disingenuous. You argue like a female, haha. There is absolutely no question that Samardzija's arm is at least a couple years younger than his actual age. The same can be said for Sale, although he puts much more stress on his arm due to his odd throwing motion. The point is, you're on strict pitch counts & innings limits in the minors. You don't get overextended. 485 minor league innings is the equivalent of how many IP in the majors? You fall in love like a female, Jeffy is your new Tyson Chandler, haha. You are the one giving arm ages due to innings pitched, so I guess nobody can argue with your own formula. The point here is that JS has had some good moments in the majors and some really bad ones. Up until last season he was largely considered a bust and even last season he did not finish out nearly as strong as he started. He could very well put it together and be a good pitcher, but he has a long way to go before he will be this elite pitcher you are seeing.
  24. Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron announced as the name of the sequel. Captain America 2, Godzilla, Guardians of the Galaxy and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had some great footage shown at Comic con according to reports
  25. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) For comparison's sake, Sale has thrown just a little bit less in the MLB - 405 IP. We can't say they've had a similar workload though, because Jeffy threw 485 IP in MiLB while Chris threw 10. Samardzija threw 241 IP in college, too. Chris had similar college usage. What we can see, though, is you can't call Samardzija's arm 25 when he's thrown twice the innings of our 24 year old ace. How old is Chris's arm? 12? All of those innings count. This doesnt count because he is valuable and these innings were obviously not important so his arm didnt mind.
