  1. Why is everyone so sure Sheets is going to be available. I think Milwaulkee is trying to enter a new era, one that doesn't include ineptitude. The best way to build a good franchise is to start with a franchise pitcher. They're going to hold on to Sheets unless they get completely overwhelmed in a trade.
  2. Hey, if there was a list of top dumbasses, alot of people who should be on the list might not be on that list.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) ...and there he goes. A minor league contract gets it done. Best of luck to Nelson. I hope he gets back on track with the M's. Good riddance, I'd rather have John Adkins in my bullpen!
  4. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) Millar would probally put up 25 homeruns, .300 average, and anywhere from .360 obp to .380 for roughly half the cost. He is ten time more versatile than konerko. He can play left, right, first, and third base in a pinch. He is an upgrade speed wise. Not by alot, but he still is. I have also heard he is pretty damn fan friendly. To say he would not consider playing in chicago is asinine. He is an upgrade over konerko anyway you look at it, other than age. Not to mention, a guy who was willing to go to Japan is probably willing to come to Chicago.
  5. QUOTE(Hanky Panky @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) First, Konerko is not speedy at all! Secondly, who the heck's Pablo Ozuna? Ozuna's a non minor league contract invitee that won't make the team.
  6. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) "This organization gave me a chance to play, and I have no problem being loyal to them. If it costs me money down the road, fine." -Paulie's quote when asked about his contract being up at the end of the season....says he is willing to sign immediatly to an extension, and risk losing a couple million on the open market props to konerko Players say that, and then when it comes time to cash in, they sing a different tune. QUOTE(SouthSideScraper @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) Well, forgive my mis-reading. I love the mudslinging on this forum....especially the stuff handed out by a 21yr old kid. Ah well. Name calling aside..... Millar is out.....18hr's and 74 RBI's isn't what I'd like in a replacement at first....I don't think the Sox will either. .297 BA is good, but I'd like more run production. And we're going to need some kind of power production on the team....Especially if Thomas doesn't get back into swing. Then there's Crede who needs to cowboy up as well. Dye remains to be seen. Point is we know Konerko can. And if Paulie takes a paycut to stick with, then fantastic. It only prooves that he's stand-up....or that he knows his future is tentative due to his hip and wants to make sure he has a home. Either way, I love the guy and hope he sticks around for a while. Don't respond to a post without reading it correctly first, and don't call someone a prick for pointing out that you misread it. First you said that Millar wouldn't come to the White Sox. Now your saying that he won't fit because of his lack of power numbers, but you said if Konerko's asking too much it'll be Gload in at first. I don't know how that works out. With Millar, you sacrifice some home runs, but your saving money for another hole. Besides, Millar's RBI numbers are skewed because he had some major RBI producers in front of him.
  7. QUOTE(SouthSideScraper @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) Ah. Well, clarify your comments. Prick. Besides. Fat chance. MIllar isn't coming to Chicago. If it isn't Konerko, it'll be Gload. I like Gload as a bench guy, but not a replacement for Paulie. I thought I made them pretty clear when I said Millar was available at the end of the year, Prick. Why wouldn't Millar come to Chicago if we offered him more than Boston?
  8. QUOTE(SouthSideScraper @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Millar already signed with the Red Sox. I'm talkin bout next year fool, when they're both eligible to become free agents.
  9. Kevin Millar's a free agent at the end of the year. These are the last three years for these two. Konerko - 275 AVG - 344 OBP - 483 SLG - 86 HR - 286RBI Millar - 292 AVG - 365 - OBP - 484 SLG - 59 HR - 227RBI Millar could be had for less than half of what Konerko will be asking for. You lose a little bit of power, but the extra 4 million it frees up can plug whatever holes we might have. You lose a clubhouse presence, but Millar's won a World Series as a team leader. Of course, this is assuming he doesn't resign with the Red Sox.
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) That's what I like about all these contracts. Alot of them are two year deals, and assuming Mark Mulder's option for 2006 is picked up, he'll be a free agent too. It's nice when a kid grows up a Sox fan and happens to be a friggin stud.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) I know I would rather have maggs go to the tigers than the cubs. In fact with the trade of sosa and if maggs signs with the tigers, it leaves the cubs out in the cold, which is better than nothing. Get outta here, how many times do you want to give him the chance to wreck us. I dislike the cubs just as much as the next guy, but I could give a s*** whether they're good or not, as long as the Sox are doing good. I heard a sports radio guy talking, don't remember who, about how some Sox fans want the Cubs to lose more than they want the Sox to win. I said that was bulls***, but obviously there are some of them out there.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) It is a fine line and it can be drawn in different places depending on the player. Players decline, players improve. The only way a guy will become a starter is if he thinks he should be a starter. If Harris, at his age, accepts that he is #2 to a guy who has never played game 1 in the MLB, then Harris is not a competitor. Harris is not some 35 year old veteran, easing into retirement. He's building his career, and just handing over a starting job without a fight is accepting defeat and not IMHO a winners attitude. And I will repeat, the role of a reserve is to push the starter so everyone gets better. Good post
  13. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) Fan backlash has killed the original 10 player LA deal for RJ & any Mets for Sosa deal. I'm sure it will kill this as well. I do not rule out Santana playing for the Sox. Though it's likely he will be a NYY the Sox are capable of bidding for his services. A LH Cy Young winner is worth the inflated $. Once Contreras' contract is off the books, It would be entirely possible to wrangle Santana. If he's really pissed about the Twins dickin him around, maybe he'd like to dick around the Twins.
  14. Need your email to send payment.
  15. QUOTE(LDF @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) this is as close as telling everyone that you are a racist. how bout "lets only play the guys that are white" and critic i am surprise at at you. baseball players are baseball players what ever color or language they speak. Thats not racist, black people speak english too.
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) My point is that just being able to throw 100 mph doesn't make you valuable. Really? How many people can throw strikes for 100 mph? The less of something there is, the more valuable it becomes. Please, spare me.
  17. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) But remember, if you throw 100 mph you're valuable. Oh wait, didn't we claim Bobby Jenks off waivers from the Angels? Bobby Jenks won't be pitching this year. Stick your tongue back in your mouth.
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) A 100 mph fastball is overrated, especially without any location. "Why are you looking at me?" By the way, how is Farnsworth moving from Wrigley to the Cell's even bigger launching pad going to help Farnsworth? I hate to say it, but I watch quite a few Cubs games each year. He has excellent control with his 100 mph fastball. It's when he tries to throw his off-speed crap that he gets in trouble.
  19. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Farnsworth is garbage. He's a headcase and all he does is drink all night and pitch with a hangover. How many pitchers throw 100 mph? I'd trade Willie for Farns in a heartbeat, I've always felt once he got out of Wrigley, he'd be disgusting.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Why would Jeff Nelson want to come here on a minor league deal? Our pen is stuff with quality righties, so his chances of making the team are small right now. He wants a chance, he wouldn't get one here. I was saying if I had to choose between signing Nelson to a minor league deal, and trading Harris for Urbina, I'd choose the former and not the latter.
  21. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Has Willie played any SS in the minors? High school? Babe Ruth? 2B and SS are two distinctly different positions. Just because he can play doesn't mean he can play the other. Willie came up playing CF and 2B in the minors. We now know he can't play CF except in an emergency basis. Now people expect him to play SS in the majors?! Besides his weak arm, his poor footwork, and his not having played the position before, he'd be a great candidate for SS. Wilson Valdez runs rings around Harris at SS. If Harris can't play SS better than him, there is no need to have this conversation QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) They should give him a shot in spring training, what have we got to lose?
  22. Why not keep Willie and sign Jeff Nelson to a much cheaper, minor-league deal. I'd rather have him that Urbina anyways.
  23. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) Maybe it is just me, but I would like more than 6 people on the team who can speak fluent english. Does it really matter what language is being spoken as long as they're winning?
  24. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 05:15 AM) This isn't little league we're talking about. Willie can't learn to play SS in the major leagues in a few weeks Willie's a major league ballplayer and a pro athlete, it's not like he doesn't have the physical tools to play there (well besides his arm). They should give him a shot in spring training, what have we got to lose?
