QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) The difference is, the Pats never dubbed him the QB of the future. He was supposed to be a serviceable backup QB, nothing more. The point I'm trying to make is you don't know what you have until you throw em out there.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) If Orton is our QB of the future, we may be in trouble. That's what the Pats were saying about Tom Brady.

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) This hurts the Bears as much as Benson. Give the man his extra million and get him in camp. Make him earn it on the practice field. If the Bears cave in, they're showing everyone that they're weak at the bargaining table. Benson hasn't played a down in the NFL, who knows if he's going to be another Curtis Enis? This in no way hurts the bears as much as it hurts Benson: If the Bears' line sucks this year, it's not going to matter who's running behind them, Jones, Benson, Peterson and if they're great, then it won't matter who's running either. Benson's a chump. This whole situation has showed me that his maturity level is not where it should be to keep a cohesive team.

Benson isn't biting on the final offer. He essentialy has ruined the start of his NFL career. He can't go back to college. He'll reenter the draft next year, get picked a lot lower and won't get anywhere near the amount of money he was offered this year. Terrible decision on his part. Personally, I could care less if he's on the Bears. f*** em.

He needs to make it to the NHL to be the first Japanese NHL player. So far he's played in the ECHL and wasn't all that great. He's young and got plenty of time to develop, but he'll be with the Kings AHL affiliate for a few years.

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) But, Hampton was a Patriot, wasn't he? Drafted by the Bears in 79

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) he wants a contract identical to the #4 pick last year? He's the #4 pick this year. That makes sense to me. . . . The Bears NEVER cough up the dough for anything, what else was Jerry The Moron gonna spend this money on? Im so sick of this. I hate being a Bears fan, they are idiots. Quarterbacks make more money than running backs. If you hate being a bears fan, please do us all a favor and stop being one. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) The chances of us winning without Benson are 0.00. With Benson we stand a chance, I dont how much moeny it costs... If we cant win this year (or at least show improvemnet) we'll have to start rebuilding again, and probably means the eventual departure of Briggs and Tillman. With a solid line, any running back can be successful. It's the most overrated position in the NFL. Look at the Broncos, you can put pee-wee herman behind their line and he'll rush for 100+ a game. Even if Benson signs, he isn't going to be that much better than Jones this year, especially since his ass hasn't been at camp, get a grip.

There's alot of people here that don't deserve this team.

Slumps don't last forever, this team will be back on its feet eventually, it's too talented not to. Stone me all you want.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) Losing their marquee player doesn't exactly raise the team's value. Neither does having a $16 million a year player.

Amphetamines vs Anabolic Steroids
WSFAN35 replied to 3 BeWareTheNewSox 5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) I think the big outcry over steroids is a direct result they have had on the HR numbers that were put up over a 10 year period. Baseball was sailing along and all of a sudden everybody's grandma could hit 40 HR's. That was tangible and visible to baseball fans and they feel like the accomplishments have been tainted. The greenies in the locker room has been around since the 60's, and probably longer. They may have helped the players, but it didn't skew the numbers to the extent that it caught the fans' attention. Steroids did. Well if greenies are as popular in the MLB as has been reported, who knows what the quality of baseball would be like. I don't think that these drugs should be overlooked just because steroids have a larger impact on the game. -
QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) So they can be compared because they were both top prospects and can't miss guys? All I said was that the comparison isn't that far off, not that Young is going to end up like Borchard. The matter of fact is that no one knows where he is going to end up, so for someone to say that Young ABSOLUTELY WON'T end up like Borchard is ridiculous. People talk about this guy like he's a for sure thing, but he's not.

Grossman's Season Basically Over

QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) When was the last time a 4+ round rookie QB lead a team to anything? Is Chad Hutchinson going to lead this team to anything? No. Put him in, let him learn the NFL. Grossman can't stay healthy, and even when he was, he was just average. Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round.

QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) I'm pretty sure thats not a crush that you get ripped for... You'd be surprised, but you're right, there's plenty of other people who have a crush on her.

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) kittner. :puke No matter who starts the season off, I think Orton will be the starter by the end of the season.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) The Borchard - to - Young comparison is absolutely terrible. Fine, you don't think minor leaguers are worth it. That's Ok, but don't make baseless comparisons. I really don't think the Borchard to Young comparison is as far off as you make it out to be. In case you don't remember, Borchard was our number one rated prospect for a long time, and was considered a Can't Miss type of guy.

Chicago Blackhawks Offseason Bonanza Thread
WSFAN35 replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) If that's true, it's too bad he wasn't worth a roster-ready player, but it does free up some cash for them to hopefully find another scorer somewhere. I haven't been paying much attention, are there any legit scorers still available that the Hawks would stand a realistic chance of signing? It's been verified by both ESPN and the Pittsburgh Penguins have put out a press release. This is a great deal for the Pens, as they have been the victims of salary dumping the last few years. I think the Hawks could have and should have gotten more for Thibault, but they didn't have much leverage in their dealings. As for as scorers left in the FA pool, some names that pop out to me are: Teemu Selanne, Peter Bondra, Alex Mogilny, and Anson Carter. Some lesser known guys: Jan Hrdina-learned from some of the best scorers in the world with the Penguins, Vincent Damphousse - Excellent faceoff man and incredible veteran leadership, Donald Audette-still has what it takes, Adam Deadmarsh-if someone's willing to take a chance on him he could be had for cheap and could provide a huge lift for any team, and Bates Battaglia-he's from Chicago. -

Heard a report Thibault is traded to the Penguins for a fourth round draft pick. Nothing's verified yet, but I'm pretty sure it's golden. -

Wayne Gretzky to coach Phoenix Coyotes
WSFAN35 replied to CSF's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) But like kap said, I think a lot of people are overrating Phoenix. They don't have a star player, and they're top few lines aren't going to really worry many teams. Yea, Comrie, Hull, and Morris aren't stars...
