The Republican Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) I've said before I disagree with Obama raising taxes on dividends and capital gains, and I disagree with other tactics he is proposing that will effect the markets. But, I have to say, I am starting to get the impression that a lot of big time financial market players (and small time ones) are deciding to revolt against these policies they don't like for selfish reasons. Unlike the futures markets, the stock markets aren't tied enough to real value to be held as quick to true valuation. The ratios and value numbers are just way, way under what the should be. I think we are seeing something I have said for a while was rare, beginning to appear in the equities markets - human bias having such a large factor as to put the markets far, far out of whack with fundamental financial reality. I think the next couple months will be ugly, we're going down a bunch more probably, and its not for any good reason anymore. We've gone past that. Fortunately, I think that eventually, the masses are going to key into this, it will be reported enough, and the markets will suddenly correct themselves in a big way. They'll say it is because of the first hints of recovery showing up, which will be partially true, but it will also be that they are covering their own asses for what they have created. I have a sinking feeling 2009 is going to be a disaster. Not only the stock market, but unemployment is going to go up substantially.

So where is Al Qaeda at?
QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) Now, how would the logistics for such an attack work? Would a minor, down and dirty attack really be a deathblow? If not, does it help strategically? Not saying it wouldn't work or anything, just throwing out ideas. one person could do a lot of damage, i remember the 'dc sniper' case a while back and the 2 involved really had that region in a panic. now, imagine 30 dc sniper types across the country. people would be freaking out.

So where is Al Qaeda at?
I think the U.S. has really done a good job disrupting AQ organizations here. I give W some credit for this (dems spare me the rage, admit when things go right for once). But I agree, now would be the prefect time for them to attack.

Burris tried to raise money for blago at behest of blago's brother
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Lisa Madigan or Alex Giannoulis is the next Junior Senator from Illinois. Roland Burris will not win the nomination, but if he does he will win re-election... I don't think enough people will pay attention to get out and vote otherwise, and its already obvious that certain wards in Chicago will do their best to get out the vote for him. Madigan will probably the next Governor of Illinois, it seems thats where she wants to be and she already looks to have the ground operation solidified with her fathers connections. Madigan has also done a good job of positioning herself as the knight in shining armor when she took on Blago. Giannoulis has already begun putting together his campaign for 2010. He seems to be the next young Democratic star from Illinois and he will probably gain support from the machine. I haven't heard any serious rumors about his credibility (please correct me if im wrong) so I dont think he will face must opposition if the Machine backs him. Bobby Rush is literally a clown, however, Ted Kennedy probably should be in jail... this doesn't excuse the fact that Roland Burris completely LIED to the people of Illinois. However, if you or me were involved in that Chapaquiddick incident, we'd probably have gone to jail for a long time. If Burris pulls of the nomination I would definitely put my money on him losing the general election. He would get killed in the suburbs and downstate. I agree with you on Kennedy, it's just not somethign Democrats bring up.

Burris tried to raise money for blago at behest of blago's brother
Bobby Rush brought up Chappaquiddick today, wondering out load why Roland Burris is so scandalous but a white Ted Kennedy drove someone into a lake and killed them and no one cared. I'm not making this up. On a side note, what are the chances Burris wins the Dem nomination for the seat? if he does he'll lose in the general election for sure

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) I have a number of problems with the logic behind this variety of statement, but I'll focus on one here; the person making it is giving himself or herself the permission to valiantly declare what exactly the political center is, and declaring that that position fixed and invariable with time. Not only does it grant the person making the judgment an awful lot of ability to discern the realities of the universe, but it also assumes a fairly rigid definition of the political center. Well, that goes along the lines of why the use of "In my opinion" is redundant within many posts.

Playboy: Santelli's "Tea Party" rant pre-planned?
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) when faced with a pretty ridiculous example of a news employee trying to use his platform to line his own pockets you look the other way. I expect such actions, so I am not 'looking the other way'. I saw his speech and didn't care about it. The current state of news journalism has desensitized me to lousy reporting. I don't even start discussions about the media anymore. At times I might reply to a post about the 'anti-Democrat' MSM, but that's about the extent to it recently.

Playboy: Santelli's "Tea Party" rant pre-planned?
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) I don't think anyone is saying that, but you all, so worried your objectivity in the news, it is considered poor ethics to use what you 'report' on to better your personal check book. WSJ doesn't allow their journalists to invest in the stock market to avoid conflicts of interest that happened with one reporter in the 90s. How are we to believe Santelli's advice in the future isn't just to help out his new business ventures? there's really no such thing as objective journalism within major news casts anymore, besides maybe The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. i really don't see what the difference is if this guy planned his outburst ahead of time or just did it on a random whim. you would object to his rant either way correct?

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) No, Obama is not governing from the center. No one does. I think he's closer to the center than Bush was, but, I think he's further from the center than Clinton was. I just think it is interesting that the same people who said the Bush-bashers were over the top, are now going way, way over the top about Obama. Unfortunately, Bush and Obama are about equal in quality from what I've seen. Neither are anywhere near the political center, that is a given.

I have bad news for you guys, all these little 'precious moments' such as the kid that asks Blago to play a game of hoops during a press conference or the lady at a Obama rally that touched everyone’s heart... is all set up. I know, I’m sure you guys are devastated.
