QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:27 AM) Well, there's Kobe, Garnett, Howard and others. But if they can't evaluate HS talent, then a good GM shouldn't draft them. Problem solved. Kobe went 13th behind perennial greats such as Lorenzen Wright, Samaki Walker, Erick Dampier, Todd Fuller and Vitaly Potapenko. There was legitimate discussion of Dwight vs Emeka. KG went 5th. Meanwhile, teams spent years on wasted picks like Kwame Brown, Eddy Curry, Darius Miles, Sebastian Telfair, Gerald Green, Jonathan Bender, DeSagna Diop, Robert Swift, Martell Webster, Dorrell Wright, Leon Smith, DeShawn Stevenson, Travis Outlaw, Ndudi Ebi, Robert Swift, Sebastian Telfair, CJ Miles - all the while the product on the floor suffered. Meanwhile, we're in the midst of one of the best eras of entertainment the NBA has ever seen, but Nerlens Noel clumsily flies into a basketball hoop and now the rules have to go back to that garbage? Pass. s*** happens.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:23 AM) Right, he could have left the country for a year to go make less money than he would if he were allowed to play in the NBA. Why does that make any sense? If NBA teams were drafting s*** HS talent for a few years, that's on them. They got by for years without having this age restriction. He's not allowed to play in the NBA. He could also legally have alcoholic beverages in Europe, something he's not allowed to do here. It's obvious that outside of Lebron James, no one can evaluate high schoolers, so f***'em. God forbid they get a year of free college or paid to play overseas.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:20 AM) Steve, You are looking for a new job right? Imagine if before you could get your new job, they told you that you had to take mind altering drugs for the next year, and while 90% of the time it did nothing and youll be fine, 10% of the time it made you useless and youll get no job. Would you think thats fair? Or would you just prefer to be paid today, instead of taking the 10% chance that you wont be employable next year? I cant imagine youd prefer the no reward complete risk option. Because lets be honest 1 year of college isnt even worth $1mil, let alone $10mil which is what he could have gotten for the life of just 1 contract. This is the dumbest, most irrelevant post I've read in awhile.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) He otherwise would have been making millions instead of wasting everyone's time taking classes for two semesters. He could have chosen to get paid plenty of money to play overseas. He chose the national spotlight and the p**** train. Ok, the p**** train would have happened overseas, too.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) So instead of the NBA being punished for the NBA being stupid, we are going to create rules to punish 18 year olds. To me that doesnt seem fair. This is basically like creating a rule in MLB that no teams can sign Japanese players unless they play 1 year in the minors first, because to many MLB teams were making bad decisions about Japanese players. Thats on the hundred million dollar organization for being stupid. Why should the kid who just got paid generational wealth be the one to blame? He made the smart decision, he got paid before people realized he sucked. Thats called being smart, the NBA just doesnt want to have to think. I don't see how Nerlens Noel was punished by being given a free ride for a year of college.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) MLB, and hockey do it. Major League Baseball has 40 rounds in their f***ing draft, and most teams have four full-time minor league teams to fill, plus short-season leagues. Then there's that big league team. That requires a lot of players. They can afford to burn picks on players based on pure potential while they still have peach fuzz on the johnsons. The NBA was f***ing brutal in the early 2000s because of all the s***bomb high schoolers being drafted.

Players get hurt. The NBA's rules were in part because it was killing the game. Teams were drafting 18 year olds based on potential. Hell, BJ Mullens would have been a top 5 pick had he not been forced to make an ass of himself at Ohio State for a year. Teams going all in on guys straight out of high school rarely worked out, and wasted tons of years of development. So the NBA protected itself by forcing these kids to gain a bit of experience on the big stage against better competition while also getting a year older. So Nerlens Noel got injured - no one forced him to play. I'm sure the free ride, the campus celebrity, the national television, the p**** train, these are all things he enjoyed. He got hurt - he'll still be a top 5 pick, and the NBA was saved a year of watching him play 12 mpg and look like general s*** on the court for the Toronto Raptors or some s***.

Spin it how you want, but a manager declining an extension is never a good thing. We all knew Robin's interest in this position was luke-warm at best, and he had to be talked into it. That being said, I thought he did a great job getting the most out of a bunch of bums last year, and he'll have to do that again this year to make baseball interesting in August.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) At worst it was malicious intent from Cooke (which would shock no one), and at best it was a wildly irresponsible play. There was no reason his skate should have lifted to where it did. It could have been an accident, but because of who it was and what I know he's capable of, I suspect it was on purpose. Obviously he wasn't trying to end his season, but I do believe he was being the usual gutless, spineless, dirty player that he always has been. And of course when Neil tried challenging him later he declined and fell like a rag doll the second Neil's gloves got to his face. He's such a p****. He is everything that is wrong with hockey. I've played hockey my entire life. Cooke went towards the boards awkwardly and his skate came up, and he was simply putting it down to keep his balance. It was a freak injury, nothing more. Reputation or not, that was CLEARLY a complete accident and not something any hockey player intentionally does - you are helpless when your feet are off the ice. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 12:01 AM) Erik Karlsson had his Achilles cut by Matt Cooke's skate and is done for the year. That was not fun to watch. That was disgusting - and that sucks, I really like Karlsson. -
*ahem* little people EDIT: Couldn't that just serve as their tablet?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) It happens more often than you would think. Crazy to watch on TV though I'd imagine if I had a half-living human protruding out of my body after stealing my nutrients for 9 months I'd rip that f***er out too. Also, Jake, a link would likely work next time.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 12:10 AM) I'm really enjoying Southland, now that I've had the chance to watch it. I've been watching old episodes. I've been talking about that show for years - the wife and I simply adore it.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Its funny how about 2 weeks ago they were reporting he was playing 5 on 5. There's a lot of mis-information going around these days, it seems.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) Read the graphic novels, the 2nd compendium is out now so it's cheap to read them. I don't miss the show at all because I got great entertainment out of the graphic novels. ...or I could illegally download them for free and throw them on my tablet.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Except LeBron. I do not believe him to be a human being. What about the elbow injury .
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Playing through injury to one part of the body can also lead to you getting hurt somewhere else because you may end up moving and playing in a manner that is not natural and puts extra strain on your body. Yeah - Rose was a pretty easy example of that. IIRC it all started with a brutal roll of his ankle, then he came back and his quad was hurting, then his groin went goofy, then ankle again and then the world ended.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Join the hate-watch group! I have way too much on my plate to hate watch television. I'm seeing no development in the characters and bad acting - so I'm just over it. Rick's an insufferable prick, for some reason Darryl thought that the group should forgive his brother for getting a member molested and nearly raped and another beaten and both almost killed. I've seen enough zombies, there's no shock and excitement on the show anymore - just characters acting stupidly. So I'm done.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) Here's an interesting bit of language stuff for you that I learned today: Apparently "resign" is a poor translation of the Latin, and "renounce" is the more appropriate word. Makes sense, since "resign" implies you're accountable to a person/entity above you (an earthly entity). quits

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Yes, the PP needs to improve, and last night's failure in OT was maddening. But to answer your question, 2 years ago it was 4th in the league. I love it when you analyze. -
We all knew that was coming.
