  1. This is a really stupid article. You can say what he said about any highly-paid player, really. Good players cost money, lots of young, not very good players cost little, but can fill out a roster. His article basically claims that teams don't need good players, but tons of bad ones making little. If he thinks we can't plug our roster with guys as productive as those traded he's got another thing coming. Stupid stupid article.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) you see what happens when you start threads like this? Ribbie gets out of control. This is why we dont have nice things haha
  3. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Cradle the balls, stroke the shaft, work the pipe, and swallow the gravy. Get it over here, Gordon. Let's do this! Ew
  4. But back to the subject at hand... Beckham is going to be f***ing great.
  5. In 202 fewer at bats, Gordon Beckham has amassed some comparatively better stats than David Wright, who is held as one of baseball's top third-basemen. In 229 fewer at bats, Gordon Beckham has amassed some comparatively better stats than Dustin Pedroia, last year's lame MVP. Wright: 385 At-Bats, 29 doubles, 7 homers, 51 rbi, .881 OPS Pedroia: 412 At-Bats, 31 doubles, 6 homers, 45 rbi, .801 OPS Beckham: 183 At-Bats, 17 doubles, 5 homers, 36 rbi, .860 OPS It's almost comical the lack of attention Beckham is getting on the National Scale, but he's a god-damned beast.
  6. This was quite an appropriate topic. Well done, knight.
  7. It was obvious after this deal that the Padres would be happy with their return. Even though we couldn't trust Clayton to go 7 on a day to day basis and Poreda was going to be a reliever in the AL Central, they should both be above average pitchers in the NL and Petco Park. I have a feeling both teams will be happy with this one when all is said and done.

    Films Thread

Funny People... awesome for first hour and a half, then takes a pointless turn and spends the final 50 minutes or so making no sense and totally changing its direction. A bit disappointed, but still enjoyed it. There were a lot of very funny parts.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) I will be at the game cheering on Big C.R. That might be weird.
  10. Axelrod: "The improvement [on the ankle] is remarkable. No swelling, no pain, he's got a greenlight to withstand whatever he can withstand. He's throwing off the mound first thing tomorrow in San Diego. He could do a few more sessions and then a couple rehab starts and be ready to go." Seconds ago on ESPN 1000.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) I think that the best thing about this trade is KW basically telling the Tigers and the Twins... "You can take your Washburn and your OC and you can go f*** yourselves"... Again... healthy players
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) I like how the Red Sox getting Martinez is bigger than us getting Peavy according to ESPN. healthy player vs injured player
  13. I guarantee that when the deal was rejected, when everyone was saying positive things about the other side, that it was agreed upon that if an NL club didn't offer by 2:59 they'd resubmit the same paperwork and Peavy would waive the clause.
  14. PEAVY INJURY STATUS Boot is off... so I give it a month?
  15. QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Detroit and Minny, there's your f***ing answer Yeah, he's only injured and collectively hated by White Sox fans already. Haha.
  16. Bruce Levine just said Poreda, Richard are involved in a 4-1 deal. Peavy has waived his no trade clause.
  17. He costs a s***ton of money for a 4th outfielder and he's a huge tool who didn't listen to coaches. He hit one f***ing homerun on us and this thread starts? Please, mods, kill it yesterday.
  18. Canseco came out and said it was not Rickey Henderson about whom he was speaking.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) But one of those years he was a 20 win ace for a WS champion. That tips the scales just a tad. Shhhhhhhhh, we can't look beyond fantasy stats!
  20. Ha, we're not going to get Heath Bell. The Padres are asking for an out-of-the-world return on him. They asked for either Andrew Miller or Cameron Maybin from the Marlins.
  21. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) Wonder if Seattle would deal Ichiro.... They would not.
  22. It just keeps getting better! The Red Wings have been getting away with this s*** for years...
