  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 01:10 AM) Man oh man are the Celtics GOOD! They might be better than they were last year. The Lakers are better.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 08:20 AM) I'm not Steve's official spokesman, but I think he knew that. What I believe he meant is no team was willing to take the contract and give the Cubs anything in value. When you have a marginal player with a bad contract you can get something for him if you eat a majority of the contract if you want to dump all or most of his money you get very little back. The Cubs found themselves in a position where they needed to drop a contract and get more prospects, something that Marquis' contract would not help them do You can be my official spokesman anytime. The Pads don't want that terrible contract. I LOOOOOOVE that that deal finally came back to bite the Cubs in the ass. I said it was a monstrously bad deal when they signed him, and Hendry's finally feeling the pain for all of his terrible moves.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) Cameron tested positive for a banned stimulate (which he claimed came from a tainted supplement) not roids. I thought he tested positive for terrible contact hitting?
  4. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) So from what I have read all over is that all the Cubs needed to do to get Jake "The Snake" Peavy was to deal away Jason Marquis and Mark DeRosa. Instead of letting go of that human-waste-no-talent-ass-clown Marquis and an actually good player in Derosa, they turn away a power arm like Peavy. I laughed when I saw on ESPN today that the deal was dead, they blew a possible steal of a trade. You ever think that "letting go" of Marquis might be hard because he comes with a huge contract? Someone delete this pointless thread.
  5. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) please close this thread, no more pipe dream angels talks.
  6. Hey look! IF you give a good goaltender consistent playing time, he'll prove to be worth the bucks. Huet is a great goaltender, and its time to trade Bulin when he gets healthy.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 08:51 PM) If Jackson dominates the Sox for the next 10 years, I'm blaming you. Jackson has proven he f***ing sucks. Why do people still like him. He was the "next" Pedro like 7 years ago.
  8. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) I'd much rather sign Dunn, who is younger and better, but I won't throw a fit if we sign Abreu instead. A high OBP near the top of the order was something this team greatly missed last year. Since he's reportedly good friends with Ozzie, I wouldn't be surprised if he's willing to sign with us at a slight discount. I personally think Dunn would be a horrible fit to put in a lineup with Thome and Konerko. He brings nothing new to the table, whereas Abreu can still run and hit for a much much higher average.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) Abreu would be a great asset offensively, though he has seemingly regressed the last couple of years. His production last year was nearly identical to where it was in 2002-2003. People seem to want 30+ homers out of him, which was never really his game.
  10. Personally, I think Bobby Abreu would be a much more valuable bat to our offense than JD.
  11. Jason Richardson to the Suns. That should be interesting.
  12. I was just going to post that. Couldn't happen to a better person.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) Maybe so, but that was definitely styled just like Ledger. I disagree. Looks more like Nicholson than Ledger.
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) The Batman Arkham Asylum game is one game I wish I had another system for. It looks really great It's really the only reason I hesitated selling my 360.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) Also worth noting...the Brewers this year turned Matt LaPorta in to: 1. Their first playoff appearance in decades (and a decent amount of fan-based good will/excitement) 2. The 26th pick in the first round next year 3. A Sandwich pick. They also gave up Robert Bryson, Zach Jackson, and a PTBNL I'm not sure about, but the star of the deal was LaPorta, and turning him in to 2 picks in the top 40 of the draft really isn't a bad move. Eh, LaPorta is going to be a monster... but the playoff appearance alone I am sure was worth it to fans who haven't seen that in a long time. Getting two picks hopefully will get them something comparable to LaPorta.
  16. Eye = Walk Power = careful which sometimes = walk Plenty of guys hit bombs without taking walks. Hanley's walk rate increasing could have had a lot to do with the same thing that saw his power increase... natural development.
  17. I'd be elated if the Sox picked Morlan or Brown.
  18. Love TCQ, and there's not many I'd trade him for, but this would be an easy trigger to pull.
  19. Kenny's crazy will be entering the season with a starting rotation of Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, Richard, and Marquez, and finding out that catching lightning in a bottle two years in a row is a really, really hard thing to do.
  20. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) Those are some great old school covers I love them.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 01:00 AM) http://www.cafepress.com/knightni That's solid, Knight!
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) In this economy the team willing to spend the bucks makes the big news. No surprise its the Yankees. Expect the Red Sox will be signing a few FA also. It just comes from a team that asked New York's tax payers to fund a new stadium.
