Powell Aide says torture orders came from Cheney
The Ginger Kid replied to Balta1701's topic in SLaM
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) Former CIA Guy Larry Johnson. I doubt seriously that torture victims are adding significantly to the ranks of anti-American fundamentalists in the middle east. I'm sure some seminars in Syria and Iran do more for that cause than we do. Look, I don't like the idea of innocent people getting tortured, no one does. But 9/11 changed a lot of things. And this is one of them. I actually agree with Bush's polilcy of pre-emptive strikes in our nation's defense, it's just too bad that the first time the miserable idiot applies that policy it's against a country that didn't present a threat. At all. Worse, he knew it, too. So now you can take that policy and basically throw it out the window since those who came up with it have rendered it useless by their own incompetence and arrogance. -
Powell Aide says torture orders came from Cheney

I'm a lefty, but if torturing some terrorist is going to prevent a future attack then so be it. -
We need to mate Ann Coulter with Al Franken and produce the child that will unite us all. Hopefully he/she is a hermaphrodite christian homosexual in comfortable shoes who appreciates both Larry David and Jeff Foxworthy. Until then, ask yourself one question: do you prefer a "liberal" helping of turkey at Thanksgiving, or a "conservative" helping? I trust this enlightening exercise will dramatically influence your next trip to the polls.

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
The Ginger Kid replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So it's more cost effective to go after Thome or Delgado than to re-sign Konerko? He's going to re-sign and for more than he's worth. But he's going to re-sign. He has to hear the Angels out and consider their offer, he'd be stupid not to. The only drawback to returning is Frank Thomas. Paulie doesn't like him and I think the feeling is mutual. -

Haven't Giles' numbers dropped since steroid testing began? -
Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
The Ginger Kid replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Paulie might just be peaking in his career. He's such a hard worker (from what I've read) and it seems to be paying off. I would be surprised to see any more inconsistency from him like we saw in the past. I think he'll be a 35-40 homer guy for the next four or five years. Allowing him to go to the Angels, a rival in the league, only doubles the pain of losing him, IMO. Not only do you subtract from your own strength, you add to your opponent's. Re-sign him. Give him what he wants. He gave us what we wanted, didn't he? Six years is not a bad deal. -
Loudest Moment in the Playoffs?
The Ginger Kid replied to SouthSidePride05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Quietest moment: Anaheim, California, game four, Paulie goes yard in the first inning. I've never seen a bubble get burst so quickly. Those fans were so stoked prior to the game and then BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE. absolute silence. -
The more people disregard the Sox the bigger the chip on their shoulder will grow. I think by the time ST rolls around people will be dismissing them once again and picking the Indians to take the division. Seriously. And that just plays right into the hands of the Sox. They don't need individual honors. That said, I still think Hunter is a better defensive outfielder than Rowand. No question.

Soxtalker strikes back at East Coast ignorance

Marty for President! -
I hope he REALLY starts playing the Terry Ryan game and developing players in the minors that are schooled in the same philosophy as the major league team so they can be plugged right in.

Konerko defends Sox, looks ahead
The Ginger Kid replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think that leaving him open to a career ending injury this year without protection for the future probably bothers him more than he's letting on. I think he's been diplomatic about it and certainly winning the world freakin' series heals a lot of the pain, but the Sox had their chance. I don't blame him for looking around and testing the market. It can only benefit him in the end and drive up his value. I'm sorry to see him go. A guy who plays great D, hits 40 HR and 100 RBI deserves more respect than he got, IMO. But at least he brought us the hardware, baby. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) If JD moves to 1B I'd rather see Brian Anderson starting in the OF next year. I'd rather see him in center. Anderson should be given a shot to earn a starting spot.
-
Worst case scenario this off season is losing PK. But if that happened why not sign Jaques Jones and move JD to 1B? Adding a good lefty bat would be nice, he's as good if not better in RF as JD, he adds speed on the base paths and he's a good guy in the clubhouse. If the Sox are going to add I say they should add to their strength, pitching and defense.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Eh, just put some gieger counters in, and let the loudspeakers go as they all bow toward Mecca. Pretty soon, they'll be in paradise from all the radiation. I'm going to hell for that.

QUOTE(JHBowden @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) I wonder how hippies will explain this: I think we need airstrikes against Iran's nuclear facilities ASAP. "Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury" is pretty explicit -- Ahmadinejad is calling for the incineration of millions of Americans. More from al-Jazeeza -- Ahmadinejad: Wipe Israel off map http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/15E...3CE0E9957EA.htm Also note when Ahmadinejad speaks of hundreds of years of war against "The Oppressor," he means the United States. Some in the west want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend this guy isn't a few French fries short of a happy meal, but we need to do something or countless numbers of people will be vaporized in the near future. "Hippies" or libs like me would say gee, that policy of invading iraq is really paying off! Look at how Jeffersonian democracy is spreading throughout the region! Woo-hoo!

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) So barbaric?!!? Are you f***ing serious?! completely serious. And I used to be a proponent of the death penalty. I saw no reason why some of these sub-human rapists, child molesters and murderers should live another day. But I think as a society we should hold ourselves to a higher moral standard than murder, and no matter how you cook it, execution is simply state sanctioned murder. I also read quite a bit about miscarriages of justice that have led to many, many innocent men being executed. I've always believed we should lock them up in a hole somewhere without TV, weights or any human contact and pictures of their victims should paper their walls. Let them wish they were dead.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 05:21 AM) CNN Linkage Interesting life. and another reason for the abolishment of the death penalty. He's making a contribution writing children's books. Keep him in jail for life. Let him contribute something. So barbaric.
