get santana's pitch count up, bring in Byrd, burn him too, then rally late for the win! They'll have to use Lackey on short rest (again) or give Escobar a start or go with an ill washburn.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Santana coming in remember what this kid did to the Sox? :puke

If the Indians were advancing to the ALCS they'd be praising these feisty, upstart underdogs and characterizing them as working class players with a team first mentality and no superstars. If the Tigers were advancing to the ALCS they'd be writing that a franchise with a great history is re-emerging from the ashes thanks to the brilliance of the front office and a coaching staff full of ex-Tigers who bring pride, tradition and a team-first mentality to the clubhouse. If the Royals were advancing to the ALCS they'd be saying it's the underdog story of the decade - Sweeney would be an all-American hero carrying the hopes and dreams of this small-market franchise on his Herculian shoulders. If the Twins were advancing to the ALCS they'd be saying it's their turn - they've waited soooo long for their return to the World Series (14 years), this team which rose through the minors together playing baseball the old-fashioned way (albeit in a dome). Gardenhire and Ryan would be the geniuses behind this small-market fable. I don't want the praise or respect of these types of journalists who can't simply write about quality baseball unless they have some sort of cliche to exploit for story purposes.

They say Boston has the highest population of unemployed PhD's in the nation, many of whom seem to post on their fan sites. Some pretty funny stuff and for the most part pretty intelligent. I enjoyed reading their game threads after the fact -- so funny when you know the meltdown is coming.

I've watched the replay of the 6th inning in Boston on MLB.TV probably five times now. It's great because they use the radio feed from Rooney and Farmer and the picture from ESPN. I love the part where Farmio says "My palms are sweating" and Rooney says "mine too!" I don't think I was that nervous during the birth of my child, I kid you not. And it's only going to get more nerve-wracking the further the Sox go in the playoffs. IT'S SO GOOD TO BE ALIVE IN OCTOBER!!! THANK YOU SOX!!

Didn't Litke used to have a national radio show? Before people stopped listening? Thought so.

QUOTE(bighurt574 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) I'll take the Yankees. Rivera pitched 2 innings last night, hopefully he will do the same tonight if they win. If you're facing Rivera when playing the Yankees then you're losing at the time. Rivera's the devil. I honestly don't care who the Sox play. The only advantage of playing the Angels is that I can go to at least one of the games in person. But I think it would be sweet to beat both Boston and New York on the way to the world series, however. Talk about taking the toughest road to get there....

How does this affect PK contract?
The Ginger Kid replied to Whitewashed in '05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Paulie says he doesn't want to break the bank. But let's see what he says in December when the Red Sox, Dodgers and Yankees are throwing buckets of cash at him. -
Most of you have probably been reading this for the last week, but in case you haven't, this last installment of Rowand's ALDS journal is pretty terrific. Journal I'm in for the whole enchilada. This is special.

QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) A good friend of mine is a huge Red Sox fan (and one that talked a whole bunch of trash before the series started), and he's going on a roadtrip tomorrow. I happen to have another friend/accomplice who will be in the car. Now, I have Nancy Faust's version of "Kiss Him Goodbye" in real audio format. Who knows how to either burn this directly onto an audio CD or convert it to mp3 format? My accomplice will be slipping it into the CD player, courtesy of yours truly, about an hour after departure. Thanks in advance. why don't you post his cell number and I'm sure some of us would be happy to give him a ringy dingy.

QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) i think i'm most nervous fer this game because of all those damn stats of boston in elimination games, and the fact that i feel this is the game we should win most, when i saw the first three game matchups, i saw this one as the easiest I think they've gone to the well one too many times. They don't have Pedro going today to stop the slide. If they did I'd be nervous. Anything can happen...but I like our chances against this team.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) Looking at the radar I don't see how todays game will be played. Looks like oodles of rain. Thats right I said oodles. what's the rule in the playoffs, do they have rain shortened victories after five innings? Does it carry over to the next day?

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) In my eyes anyone who actually believes the president thinks he hears God actually talking into his ear is more likely to be crazy then the president would be. It is possible to have moral conviction based on deep faith, introspection, and prayer and not have it mean its like a Burns/Denver movie. First, if he were "just like them" there wouldn't even be an Iraq or Afghanistan anymore. Secondly, as far as the "fundamentalist enemy" (meaning the terror networks) - he's damn right you have to kill them all. There will be no white flags that end this. If that means I get called a warmonger, a hater, and ignorant- well then I accept those labels with pride. SFF Then you must be pretty disappointed that he invaded Iraq since there was no fundamentalist issue there until we went to war. I would guess that you also agree that the fight should've been taken to Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria instead, longtime supporters of fundamentalist terrorism and hotbeds of anti-American sentiment. No?

Did you all see this from Reifert?

Any word on whether Carl will move back to the 3-hole today? Dye has bad numbers against wakefield. Glad to see Hickey was throwing knucklers during BP yesterday, that helped the Yankees last weekend.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) I knew there was something about rape involved. Deep throat set the tone for modern day pornos, and is the highest grossing porn ever, right? yep - highest grossing film of all time, they said, given its cost.
-
"Now where's my change up...I know I left it around here somewhere."

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) i heard about it. Wasnt Deep throat basically an underage rape? no, not at all. Linda Lovelace (Borman was her real last name) was in her 20s and was paid for her work. Later on she claimed she was raped but then recanted.

I saw a terrific documentary last night called Inside Deep Throat. It's about the 1972 porno film which was made for $25,000 and to date has made $600 million. It's a fascinating history lesson on culture and politics with some pretty terrific interviews as well. It's NC-17 for obvious reasons, but don't mistake it for a skin flick because it's not. I of course had heard of the film but had no idea of its impact on the law, society and popular culture. Anyone else see this film?

This really shakes my faith in God. Out of 300 million Americans, George W. Bush is the best he could come up with? Noah was the s*** and there's no questioning the stones on Moses. And how could God make such a terrible foreign policy blunder by invading Iraq and setting off an intractible fight and eventual civil war? Am I wrong to question the master's design as administered by his prophet George? And that's another thing, the name: Job, Noah, Abraham, Moses...George? Something smells fishy here. Wait...maybe it's not GOD talking to W. Maybe it's that other fellah...you know, the one who lives down there?

Worried About The Red Sox Elimination Record?
The Ginger Kid replied to Fingish's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You have to admit, their confidence is pretty stunning. If the shoe were on the other foot how confident would you be in the Sox? Me? Not so much. They're a team that relies heavily on emotion and momentum which explains their terrific record in bahston. The White Sox are playing great, but we've seen them be very schizo this year, haven't we? Especially these last couple of months? I honestly believe they are not going to resort to corpseball but I also believe much can happen in this series should the Sox piss away the momentum they've gained this week. They don't just think they can come back, they KNOW it. I think it's a big difference. I also think the bottom line is that the 2005 Chicago White Sox are a much better team and will prevail. -
QUOTE(madbilly @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) I at work stuck listening to The SportsBash with Erik Kuselias, and all of a sudden he's on the Sox bandwagon. This is the same guy who ripped the Sox all season long, and if I remeber correctly he said that the Red Sox would beat the Sox if the meet in the playoff's. I just can't stand this guy, he is the biggest frick'n hypocrite in radio. wow. what a dick. I can't believe he's on the bandwagon after the s*** he was saying about the Sox. I hope someone calls him out on it.

Please Ozzie, don't answer any questions about the ALCS before you've won the ALDS. Jesus.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) Time to keep my streak going. I've got a streak going too - starting with the first game in Cleveland I haven't been active on the game threads. Almost jumped on last night but didn't. Nor will I. Promise. Also, it should be noted, that when Uribe was at bat my 4 year-old daughter touched the TV screen with her index finger and said "we need some magic." I'm not joking. You know what happened next. After Pods popped out I told her we need some more magic. She did it again. You know what happened next. My wife was looking at me kind of freaky when I told her that our daughter would be at my side for the remainder of the playoffs. No exceptions.
