  1. I'm feeling they're a mess. Too cheap. Small market thinking. Two shortstops. Two third basemen. No LF. No CF. No leadoff hitter. Shortage of starters. Shortage of relievers. Lots of corpse ball for your viewing pleasure.
  2. Do the stats point to Thome as a clutch hitter? I consider Fields to be clutch, because he had home runs or extra base hits late that tied or won games. Crede was a clutch hitter for one half of 2005 and the post season. Not sure if he still is.
  3. There's something I don't like about Coco. Not sure what it is, just something.
  4. Take a look at Jon's 32 starts in 2007. Who is going to give us 7 solid innings for 32 games? I thought he had a very weak year last year until I looked at his game by game stats. I am anxiously awaiting how KW will replace those 32 starts. I do like Carbrera's stats, though. With people like Danks, Floyd and Broadway in the rotation, he better be building up that 'pen.
  5. Depressing to read the Brooks Q&A on Sox site about their wonderful radio team. This team thinks so small. They are in the third largest media market in the country and they have to resort to someone who has no broadcast experience and an analyst who can't do play-by-play? And, coming off of a World Series win? They owe fans more than someone who will grow into the job. I didn't buy the mlb package last year because I couldn't tolerate listening to those two. Farmer is OK with a good play-by-play guy like Rooney, but when he's the lead guy. Ugh.
  6. I would like them to sign Hunter, as long as it's not insane.
  7. Good move. Gives us some flexibility.
  8. I want them to sign Uribe and then find someone else. Uribe can back up or they can trade him. Don't forget his defense. We need it. Bad. Oh, here we go: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61750
  9. The big Mack attack could be back? I can see it now...we can't afford Andruw, Jones, or ARow...but we've got Rob back to patrol CF in 2008! Love his attitude, he's a local boy, what's not to like??? Oh, he can't field? But what an attitude!!!!
  10. Damon is going downhill, fast. The Yanks would love to unload him. When healthy, he's good, but he's not able to stay healthy. I don't want another Erstad/Pods deal. Spend as much as possible on as many free agents as we can sign. Stop talking like a poor second-tier franchise. I just thought of something. Wasn't Kenny preparing for '08 last off-season and that's why he dealt Freddy? Well, '08 is here. Hmm, still think we have a couple of holes.
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Looks like the Sox and Brian Anderson have both given up on each other. This makes it more then likely that Anderson will traded away in the offseason, like many expected. I don't see from that article where it says the Sox have given up on him. I think he's wrong here: "I'm not a 6-year-old. It would be nice to talk to someone and find out why I'm going there and as to how it will benefit me, instead of someone saying, 'You are going down there.'" He IS acting like a 6-year-old, if he needs someone to tell him how it will benefit him. It's pretty obvious--to figure out how to hit a baseball. Now, go play, or are you to busy chasing the honeys?
  12. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 06:31 PM) As for Brian. Perform like a big leaguer on and off the field and you get to play. Don't, and you won't. I suppose that statement can be argued all night long with but, but, but. It really sums it up though. Well said.
  13. I guess I don't understand why trading Garland is a foregone conclusion. Just because a couple of sportswriters keep saying it? Those guys have never, ever been right about Sox trades. They usually have to find out about the genuine trades from out-of-town writers. I think Kenny learned his lesson about trading away pitchers you can count on for kids. If not, he's stupid.
  14. Let me get this straight. Ozzie complains about how many strikeouts we had last year, so we're bringing in somebody who strikes out 100 times a year? I like Hunter, just seems kinda contradictory to me. But, I guess I'm used to it. They keep talking about doing the little things and then don't. Now we're going to change things in Spring Training? Didn't they say the same exact thing last year? But I digress. Get Hunter or Rowand, get a major league shortstop and someone who can play second base. Let's field a major league team this year vs. a bunch of kids. Stop this small market mentality. They can't use the attendance excuse any longer. You guys flocked to the ballpark to watch a horrible team last year.
  15. Very small thinking. This is disappointing and a slap in the face to you fans who filled the ballpark to watch the crap they fielded last year. Give me a break. He's looking out for the average fan?
  16. Kenny will have to hurry to sign ARod, so that he doesn't have to make the offer to Uribe.
  17. We are there, baby!!! With ARod leading the way.
  18. I am not making a big deal about this, but statements like this from Ryan Sweeney kind of make me want to puke when I am getting up at 5:30am to drive an hour to work after working all weekend on a major project: Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Ryan Sweeney capped a long day -- and night -- at the office when he singled to right field with one out in the 10th, scoring Travis Snider (Blue Jays) with the decisive run. Sweeney did not start the game but came on in the sixth inning as a replacement for starting right fielder Nolan Reimold (Orioles). The pair, both of whom are members of the Phoenix Desert Dogs, had played a full game earlier in the day as the Desert Dogs fell to Team China, 2-1. "I was definitely exhausted coming into the game, but I think once we got here our attitude just stepped up," said Sweeney, a 2003 second-round pick who made his Major League debut this past summer. "Once we saw all the fans, we were ready to go out there and play." Meanwhile, what might have been even more fun for Sweeney after his long day would have been a chance to go home and sleep 12 hours. But that wasn't going to happen. "I have a day game tomorrow," he laughed. "I have to be at the field at 9 a.m." Imagine that, playing 1-1/2 games in one day and then having to play baseball again the next morning. What a horrible life.
  19. QUOTE(max power @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) If he could "barely stand" he should have gotten surgery in the offseason. Instead, he decided to wait until the season started, and he pretty much f***ed over the sox for his salary and diminished this teams chances of winning. I wouldn't forgive him for that, as he could likely do it again, so I wouldn't give him a contract past 2008, unless it was for a ridiculously low price. Yeah, that ticks me off, too. But, I would keep him. His defense is very good and makes a difference. Ask MB, who wouldn't have thrown a no-hitter without it. Play Fields in LF, assuming his legs are rested up.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) It was never really the same since Joe Cowley left for the Sun - Times IMHO. But still they had some good stuff, that the main papers don't pick up, and they will be missed. Agreed.
