  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) A rain out would be awesome. Allows everyone to watch the Bears game, but more importantly, it prevents Sox from facing Verlander (likely would get Fister in the make up game) and would give Sale an extra day of rest (and allow him to face the Twins, a team he matches up well against). Where are you putting the make up game? Monday?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 12:16 AM) Thing is, it's not like Beckham, Viciedo or Flowers match up well with Valverde's 95 mph fastball. I'll give Ventura a pass for that decision, as Hudson hit Valverde very hard in Detroit. Hudson's not running into something to tie the game there, which is what you need, as you're probably not getting 3 consecutive hits. Those other 3 have a chance. You don't let another AAA player make your last out.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) So Ventura said he didn't use Veal in the 7th to face Fielder because he felt it was too early and that Prince had seen Veal too much this series. I guess he had no problem allowing Cabrera to face Omogrosso for the second time in this series? There's no reason to save Veal for later in a game if you still have Thornton lurking as well. Yeah, once this rain delay is over, I'm looking forward to Veal/Fielder in the 13th inning. It's too early, even though the game is on the line, and over, if the result is now what they need at that point? Wow. Just wow.
  4. Fathom, add to your list Hudson being allowed to represent the tying run at the plate with 2 outs in the ninth.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:26 PM) I guess we'll see. Your track record on fantasy predictions tends to be spotty at best. He's right on this one. You essentially just traded McFadden for Spiller. You must be praying that McFadden gets seriously injured, as Spiller will have, at best, McFadden's value for about 4 weeks, and then you won't want to play him at all.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) Lots of chatter about Nunn and Jackson close to committing to Illinois. Would be two really nice gets for Groce. All illinois based rumor, but still. Finally something to be happy about with Illinois bball. Getting Jackson would be absolutely huge. Those guys would shorten any sort of rebuilding period...can be top 3-4 Big Ten pretty quickly after. Here's hoping.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) Apparently I am the only Sox fan who was OK with Youk bunting there last night. I thought it was a good move. Youk has looked pretty terrible in the past few weeks with the bat, and if it is executed properly it takes DET by surprise, you lose the force, and you may even get a hit out of it with Cabrera at 3B. It didn't work. But I really don't get putting in Liriano there. If he's in he bullpen, he needs to be in for long relief in a game not very close, at least at first. That was a bizarre situation for him to be in, I really don't understand it. I'm pretty sure Youkilis doesn't know how to bunt. That by itself makes it a bad move. Surprise? He's squaring around for a sacrifice. That's not a surprise, Cabrera's standing halfway to the plate.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 12:06 AM) An hour ago, on my facebook page, FROM A TEACHER: "You have got it ENTIRELY WRONG... WE did not walk out on the students.. I know your an educated young man but you need to educate on the real issues before you start making comments to which you are not educated on.." My response: "I keep being told I'm not educated, yet no one seems to have the desire to actually educate anyone on the matter." Should correct her on the incorrect "your" if you copied and pasted.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 11:02 PM) It definitely was a bunt situation going by baseball's "book." Go for the tie at home and win on the road. But when the guy can't bunt, usually the book gets ripped apart. Youk can't bunt as evidenced by his never having laid down a sac bunt. This stupid notion needs to go away forever, in every sport. You go for the win, home, road, day, night, doesn't f***ing matter. You do the things you need to do to win the game. You shouldn't change a damn thing. Especially in a sport where your offense is completely independent of the other team's offense. You need to score X runs, you figure out the way to do it in that inning or innings. It makes zero difference where the game is played.
  10. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) I've found that it's incredibly rare and slightly awkward to make new friends as a adult. Especially after you have kids. With Facebook and email it's easy to sort of keep in touch with old friends from high school and such but I really only have 2 or 3 people that I still know well enough to actually hang out with on a day-to-day basis. It was so much easier as a kid. You'd see someone everyday at school, have them come over and check out your GI Joe collection and maybe play catch outside, then suddenly you're friends. Honestly my wife and I met more people in this past year because we've become permanent campers at a campground. We typically only see them on weekends but we've gotten to know them well enough to exchange cell #'s and they even gave us a spare key to their camper for emergencies. They also have kids around the same age as our kids, so it works out pretty well. Good point. I feel that as I get older, I'm not really looking for a lot of new friends, I'm looking to strengthen relationships with existing friends - and spend the time available with them. I don't have kids like you but I can only imagine your time is very limited for spending with people outside your family anyway. It's easier to have a lot of acquaintances with email et al like you said, and then just a smaller group of friends.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) Probably wasn't a big deal until it meant whether or not the starting 3B would be able to play. I think we're the only team with a day game as of right now. I doubt Youkilis is the only Jewish person in the league.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) I must know at least 20 teachers. They don't work past 2:30-4 on any given day. And if they do, it's because they are teaching a sport or doing math club or some s*** where they get ADDITIONAL PAY BEYOND THEIR SALARIES. And when they are grading papers at home, or planning, or whatever, they're watching American Idol and drinking. Some even have the audacity to b**** about having to go to the Scantron machine and wait for it to churn out their work. All of these arguments are just silly. Teachers, for the most part, have it made, and they all act like they are the most noble people doing God's work and raising everyone's children for little to know pay. This is correct. My sister's a teacher, b****es about after school stuff and the extra hours when it's extra pay. Doesn't make sense. The bottom line like you said is entitlement since they feel that their job is so important (maybe most important). Well a lot of people's jobs are important, everyone is making the world turn. Anytime they find someone that makes more than them, they always go back to that argument, they are teaching kids, how is that not more important than X. As a result, they think they deserve more money than that profession.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 11:04 AM) Tues. September 25th game vs. Indians moved to 1:10 PM due to Yom Kippur. Looks like a lot of fans emailed Brooks "concerned" with the start time. Have games on Yom Kippur always been day games, and they forgot to move this one until now? Didn't realize it was THAT big of a deal.
  14. Senior year of high school, got back to my locker after 2nd hour and someone told me a plane hit the WTC. Didn't know what to think. Had 3rd hour off, was in the Senior Lounge, which was filled at this point with some teachers. Was there in time to see the 2nd plane hit. Had planned on doing math homework that hour, which didn't happen. Classes basically went on per usual, but most people weren't focusing too much. Remember watching the news until 2am once I got home. I always think back about how much different that day would be now - instead of a giant game of telephone, some people not knowing for a few hours, etc, students in the middle of class would have known instantly. Kind of like with Columbine - I didn't know anything until after baseball practice at the HS - our coach hinted at something, when we finally got home we found out what it was. Never would have taken that long.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 07:05 AM) It was a huge game. The pressure of being down three games is much greater than just one, even if it is all in their heads. The Sox are now in control of this series. Even if they lose all three, they are still tied for first place. If they lose all 3 they are in a hell of a lot of trouble. It won't be "hey we're still in first place!"
  16. No football for CPS schools either. Ouch.
  17. To anyone that actually is "upset" by Cutler telling the fans to please be quiet while in the red zone...you're a complete f***ing idiot, and stop going to games.
  18. Badger, that was quick. http://host.madison.com/sports/college/foo...19bb2963f4.html
  19. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) It was as Jenksy Cat said. The surprise was about the availability and lack of demand for tickets to four home games that will decide the outcome of the season. By sheer numbers, there's just not enough "White Sox fans" in this city to produce 40,000 showing up and another X thousand wanting tickets. Unless it's an actual playoff game/game 163, I don't see how you'd get Sox games getting to that point frequently. It's still a middle of the week (would be easier on weekend) series in September, and there's 4 of them...just not enough to go around. Cubs could probably pull it off since there's probably at least 3-4 Cubs fans for every Sox fan out there.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) Because the game should be sold out and impossible to buy a "face" ticket for. The point is he looked on stubhub for prices and was somehow surprised - there's a pretty good reason they are that low.
  21. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 09:11 PM) Have tickets for Wednesday. Took a quick gander at Stubhub to discover $7 tickets for tomorrow (500 level). Thats hilarious, because this is pretty much a playoff game. If the defibrillators I ordered on Amazon for this week get here in a timely fashion, I might just have to buy. Beer costs more than that at a ballpark. I'm not one to bring up attendance, but you can rest assured that if the Cubs were in the Sox' position- up two games on the closest division rival with 3 weeks to go in the season- the s***tiest seats in their park would be going for around $50 and your firstborn child. Well this is just ignorant. It's half price night, tickets upstairs are already FACE at 7, 11, and 13 bucks. Why should they be $50 on stubhub?
  22. Teachers b**** more than anyone, it just never ends.
  23. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) Yes, because I said fire the staff. Unless something happens or the coaching is beyond horrific he should get at least 3 years. Only Illinois fans think Western Michigan is any good and it is funny. If you said we downgraded from Zook, then yes, they should be fired. If you can already tell that, which you can't. Who said Western Michigan was great? They aren't an FCS school. We won easy and the coaching was great doing so (aka no normal Zook f*** ups). What more do you want? One game AND OH MY GOD FIRE THE COACH!!!1!1!!!!!!1
