QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) Will someone please remind people that we already have our starting CF in house next year? One of the rookies is going to get a shot, I just can't see KW giving up any value for anyone when cheap and decent options already exist in house Agreed. KW has said so more than once. The Sox think they have an abundance of young talent for the OF. They're right.

QUOTE(indyman @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) Colin was very embarrased because in September he was the #1 ESPN radio guy going on and on how the Sox were a fraud, and would be exposed in the play-offs. When it turned out that Colin was 100% wrong, he had to run for cover. He also is 100% west coast .. and everything east of Arizona is the great Satan Hmm...this must be ESPN's strategy for balancing their East Coast bias. :banghead

I liked it. It concentrated much more on the regular season. So, this combined with the other DVD will make a nice set.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) Make that at least 2 GM's who aren't exactly thrilled about this: GMs uneasy over Classic I'm sure they're not alone. What's curious is that MLB created this series. Why, how did they do that if there's this much concern being raised? Another MLB decision where everything was clearly thought through.

QUOTE(hotlanta13 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) It's just good to see that they're not half-assing it like the basketball olympic team and the best players really do compete. If this were the Olympics--and since they've cut baseball this is a moot point--I wouldn't mind as much. The Olympics have a revered place in world athletics. But this thing is a largely contrived event that doesn't have 10% of the weight the Olympics do.

Add to Ozzie and Coop's concern about this Kenny Williams' terse "Yes, (I'm concerned)" to reporters' questions about MB and FG playing. If all three are worried, I don't know how we can't be.

I find it more than a little curious that DJ has been nowhere around in the post-season. Even with a newborn, don't you think at least a call-in to 670 or 1000 would have been in order? This is one that is really flying "under the radar."
-
I saw Ozzie quoted as saying he was concerned about Freddy's pitching, mostly because he tired at the end of the season. I also heard Coop saying the same thing. He said he was "very concerned." If those guys are worried, so am I. I wonder if they have the same opinion concerning MB's participation.

Sorry, I don't know how to link. But here's the info. Chicago Tribune, pg. 6 (Sports Section): Garcia is pitching in Sox right-hander to join Venezuela in World tournament. "Country comes first, so Freddy Garcia will pitch for Venezuela in the inaugural 18-day World Baseball Classic that begins in early March while the White Sox are going through spring training."
-
It looks official. Garcia will be pitching for Venezuela and will miss some of Spring Training. How concerned are you about this?

I think I get the "tension" behind the poll, but like others, I think it's a false dichotomy. It's not necessarily $25 million profit OR WS championship. I would agree with most posters here that management has to exercise some fiscal responsibility, for a variety of reasons. A more interesting poll question would be, if it meant beer prices / tickets increased say 25% next year to help pay for PK et al. would you still go to as many games? :rolly

Did you catch the "report / rumor" in the Trib that Frank may be headed for Oakland? It was weird seeing ARow in Philly pinstripes, but Frank in those A's unis? :headshake

I don't blame KW for setting a deadline for a decision from Konerko. Imagine losing him in let's say, February, with all other decent free agents already signed, and us trying to replace his numbers. I'll bet Kenny--and baseball insiders--already know what PK is looking at in terms of $$$. There are only so many ways he and Landis can examine and analyze. Time to get off the pot!

I agree with the goal of locking the three in, but am not optimistic it can get done. I would want to incentivize Crede's contract a little. That back of his should give a little pause. Plus, it would be a definitive proof of the existence of God if Borass actually was on the positive side of a Sox deal.
-
Umm...you don't believe in Anderson? The fact is the Sox organization is hip-deep in outfielders and prospects.
-
Another proof that AJ is "certifiable." Gotta luv the guy.

I don't get very exorcised about Mike North doing some things Sox related. I do not think he would be a decent replacement for Rooney. He would opine about everything and could never, ever, play second-fiddle to anyone in the booth. That said, I think he does have some good insights. I also would count him a Sox fan. I remember in '03 when the Cubs were marching through the playoffs until Bartman, he stated that he has always been a Sox fan (even though he thought all Sox fans should at least wish the Cubs well).

Anderson in CF for me. Pods makes way too many routine plays in left look like an adventure.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) That's how his swing looked all of October. It was beautiful. He'd take one quick motion towards the plate and swing...while keeping his shoulder closed, and he'd drive the ball. In september he had the highest OPS of anyone in the AL with at least 50 at bats. The guy can really swing a great bat when he keeps his shoulder closed and looks to drive the ball. He just gets in these ruts where he flies open and becomes a simple guy to strike out/pop out on pitches either outside or high. If he can limit those slumps from being month-long to being week-long, people may very well be clamoring for him to be our #3 hitter next year. But that's a big if. I keep looking...and finally hoping with some confidence...that Crede will take the same pill that Garland took and became what all the scouts, media, et al. said he would be: a top-rung player. Of course, next year is a contract year for Crede isn't it? Not to be cynical, but those years tend to bring the best out of players.

QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) do all sox fans really attack umpires? The Cubune says so.

QUOTE(Irishsox1 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) I just got off the phone with some marketing dude at Miller and he said that there is no plans to make commerative White Sox world series Miller Lite cans. I asked him why and he said they have no plans to make a White Sox can and thats all he can tell me. I told him that when the Packers won the 1997 Super Bowl, they got a special can and he told me that Miller was owned by a different company then and that they don't do that many special cans anymore. They do special packaging, but not special cans. I then told him the Packers suck and hung up on him. Switch beers...and chill.

Not many are free agents this year, so that ties up a whole lot of that 25 man roster. A hotter topic would be how many of those who are arbitration eligible or will be free agents in 2006 will the Sox tie up in this off-season.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Do Dodger fans really all leave in the 7th inning. If thats true they have to be one of the worse fanbases in all of baseball no matter how many show up at the begining. YES. As I said in my post, I was treated to a playoff game there in '85(?), and by the 7th inning in a close game (I think the Dodgers were ahead 4-2), the place was emptying out. I would say that the stadium was about 30% empty by the end of the game. That being said, it took two hours for the traffic to clear out of the parking lot after the game. Typically horrific L.A. congestion.

Top 10 ways to get your off-season White Sox fix

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) I went to the UC so I left the taping duties up to my mom, and she pressed record way to early and the tape ran out RIGHT after Uribe's catch, so I didn't get the last out or any of the celebration on tape. Dude, that's tragic...Nothing against your mom, but leaving a woman in charge in such a technologically sensitive moment and duty was............. -
I really don't feel capable of voting, since my experience of ballparks outside of Chicago is limited. Here are my (limited) thoughts, however... The Cell: pre-renovation, it was "average"...nothing great, but nothing abhorrent either. Several worse venues than this one. With renovation, more than "okay." The Urinal: way-overhyped, but not the worst either...have to say that the "social" experience has been good for me, even as I detested everything "Cub." Fenway: never saw the inside, but was utterly unimpressive with the outside and its environs. Taught me a HUGE lesson about how the media (i.e., East Coast) creates these "fables" that are in essence "myths." :puke Dodge Stadium: was, er, privileged to see a playoff game there in the mid-80s. Thought I was in heaven, even though I am in no way a fan, because of the "historic" opportunity...then, the 7th inning came, and everybody left!!! I was shocked beyond belief. Of course, as I waited in the car AFTER the game actually was completed for two + hours, I knew I was indeed in L.A. Coors Field looked cool and Denver is definitely very cool. The Ol' Candlestick Park would have had to be on a list of all-time bad venues. God, was it frickin' cold there once the sun set! LAA: fine...nice aesthetically, but kinda "soul-less."
