  1. QUOTE(rowandschick33 @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) thats the same thing i was thinking...my school is now filled with ppl wearing sox stuff and im like where were u guys the whole year with ur sox pride!?! I never used to wear Sox gear except for games. I dunno. It was sort of a "religious act." Anyway, I did wear it during the playoff run and a "celebrations" thereafter. So long as these fans are not "jumpers," I'm okay with it.
  2. I think most of us agree that PK for 5 years @ $15M per is a "forget it." What will get trickier is if it's a 5 year @ $13M per.
  3. Frank, may the happiness of this day be augmented by the happiness you'll find in your baseball future.
  4. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) The White Sox have always been up there in merch sales from what I understand. I guess our gear just looks cool. Yeah, my Cub fan brother says that's because it's a favorite among gangbangers.
  5. Rowand is my favorite player, mostly because of his work ethic, but his hitting this year was sub-par. Also, he would carry substantial value on the market. My intuition says he'll have a much better year next year, offensively. Not to be ignored is how he added to the "chemistry" of the team. Crede, A.J. and he were pretty tight. That intangible should not be ignored. If we could substantially improve the team by trading Rowand, I would pull the trigger; otherwise, keep him.
  6. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Good illustration of your point.
  7. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
  8. QUOTE(spataro51 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) i am actually thinking in all this is that Konerko will be back. Who else has a chance to make as much money out there. would you sign a big contract without at least testing the market? He has the biggest leverage here. I think he is holding out to see if the sox will give him his 5 years then he will sign.......but i also think if the sox don;t give him 5 years and just the 4 years, i still think he will be back. the longer he waits the more he brings up his price. With kenny saying about gload being not a problem at first.......that is just a bargining ploy used to tell everyone "hey we didn't sign konerko fine we got gload and some other options" KW doesn't want to seem desperate. I agree. Both sides are playing a certain PR game...floating trial balloons, etc., and mostly sending the message, "Let's keep his professional and respectful, BUT no 'legal' blackmail will be tolerated, either."
  9. Wherever Rowand's hitting, someone's got to help him with his pitch choice and swing. He was diving for everything low and outside. He just can't lay off those pitches! I don't recall that being his MO from the beginning, but in the playoffs it was brutal to watch.
  10. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Heres what I think they should do... Move Rowand into RF, move Anderson into CF, move Dye to 1B, sign or trade for a power bat to DH... Then the lineup for next year looks like this... Pods-LF Iguchi-2B Rowand-RF Power bat- DH Dye-1B Anderson-CF AJ-C Crede-3B Uribe-SS Do you say this because you assume that Konerko is gone...or that he shouldn't be paid the salary figures that are being tossed around, or so other reason?
  11. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Ok, So Mark seems to be the consensus Opening Day starter, but how do you guys see the rest of the staff getting laid out? Is it: Mark, Count, then Jon at home vs Cleveland then Freddy and B-Mac at KC? That would make Freddy Garcia the #4 starter. or do you see Ozzie leaving Freddy as the #3 and Jon as #4? I see it: Mark, Count, Freddy, Jon, and BMac. (Notice how there is an assumption--I think correctly--that El Duque is no longer a starter)
  12. MB for "tradition" sake. MB because he's the "work horse" of the staff (i.e., innings pitched)
  13. QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) [i think if the Sox lose him, it will be because somebody else offers a lot of years. I agree that "years" could possibly be the biggest challenges to a Sox offer. I also think that rationally most teams would be hesitant to offer a guy of Konerko's age such an extended contract, but contracts are not about reason. They quickly become bidding wars. Of PK's possible suitors, who would be most likely to give, let's say, a 6 or even 7 year deal?
  14. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) does anyone else feel that 4/52 is shockingly (almost insultingly) low in terms of years/total money Nope
  15. This is Americana...small town boy making it big. Gotta love it!
  16. Granted that KW's intial offer of 4 yrs. / $50M is just that, an opening salvo. At the same time, how much of a "limit" does that opening offer set? Let's imagine--for the sake of argument--that someone else comes in at 5 or even 6 years at $60+M, will the Sox have set the threshold so "low" that they can't go that high?
  17. I would suspect that even though Gooch was eligible for ROY, many voters excluded him because of his play in Japan. Call it "Writer Nullification."
  18. My guess is that KW knows that a WS title is much more important than any individual award, but at a gut level, he's probably disappointed. People usually want to be respected and honored by their peers. That said, party on KW. We won!
  19. At this point, I really don't care about the sour grapes of this Cub fan or any other...but "Sox fan" behavior that made it impossible for him to root for us? Please! His examples are one call that was a wrong number and one car circling Wrigley with a Sox flag. Could anything be so horrible?
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) Damn! I'd sure like to get my hands on one of these. I'll send you one. Tell me where to send it.
  21. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) I agree. Although I've just been a lurker all through the World Series and since we won it I'm having problems posting anything. Just find it hard as I always do to play GM especially since we won the whole damn enchilada. Why were you a lurker? Superstition? Never was a time more enjoyable to post than then.
  22. He deserves a fantastic homecoming!
