I have a friend coming in from Detroit, sort of a Sox fan convert (not bandwagon jumper, though. He and I went to ol' Comiskey a couple of times and he loved the atmosphere.) I'd love to bring him to a tried and true Soxdom place and atmosphere. Any suggestions?

To the a**hole who was the lone sour note of one of the most glorious days in Sox--and World Series--history I do this to you: :finger :puke

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 04:28 AM) Just a couple of days ago, Ozzie was talking about how the Chicago media "turned" on Dusty Baker. He said he knows it will happen to him someday as well. That might be why he's thinking about riding off into the sunset. Kenny Williams made a similar observation. I count that as mature thinking. Gloria fugit But the thing is, that's the way it is with everything in life. Hell, if Ozzie rode off into the "Golf Sunset" (which I don't believe for a minute is in his blood), there would be those who would comment, exploit, criticize. Michael Jordan can tell ya' all about that one.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) Every day in the playoffs, it seems someone starts about 3-4 threads b****ing about someone in the media. Every day in the playoffs except for 1 game, we've won. That's a high enough correlation for me. And I'm superstitious enough to just let em keep going. I'll b**** at them in the threads, but dammit, something's working. For all i know, it's these threads.

There should be "standards" for when any team can retract their roof, regular or post-season. Baseball is an outdoor game. Roofs for inclement weather, fine. But tonight is supposed to be beautiful.

No doubt Iguchi is in a funk at the plate, and is in desperate need of some coaching. Greg Walker, ER calling! That said, keep him there. We're up 2-0 and his fielding is still fine. Wouldn't want to mess with his or team chemistry right now.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) Sox fans only respect sports guys that kiss our asses and love all things Sox. Everyone who ever, even once, dares to utter or print a negative is an idiot, moron. You would think will all those WS championships we would get picked every year, but sadly it takes some guys too long to catch on. Of course then they are bandwagon jumpers. So long as they actually seem to know our team--like pronouncing their names as they're supposed to be pronounced--and giving deserved props to our guys, let the criticism come. Hell, we Sox fans, as distinguished from fans up North, are forever beating up on the players, managers, organization, etc., but you know it's because we luv 'em.

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) STOP.TALKING.ABOUT.THE.BIASED.MEDIA these threads are getting out of hand.....I heard WSI loves these thread though.....go post there Suggestion: If you don't like these threads, there's a simple solution...don't read them!

I heard him minimize and footnote the Sox victory last night too. Sickening. :puke You know, when Dye misses a fly ball, when there are questionable calls our way, NONE of the Talking Heads take that into account. Only the Sox "get all the breaks." :puke I heard one of the a**holes on ESPN this afternoon predicting that the Astros could "well" sweep in Houston. His main argument? Houston's awesome record at home. Okay, legit to say...but nowhere in this ten minute "analysis" was the counterpoint about the Sox road record. Sickening. :puke

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Oz made the statement during the depths of that August/Sept freefall, but then didn't discount it when interviewed on the Score the day after game 1. If he goes, how about Cooper for manager? SFF Sorry, Ozzie repeated his "threat" just the other morning with Mike North. I think it's typical Guillen b.s. He's got "Sox" in his blood. Even in FL his mind and heart were on this city. Ozzie has been a great manager. Except for some of his bullpen "quirks," he is fantastic.

Welcom to soxtalk. Yes, this team has definitely added to my gray hairs, plus liver damage. Perhaps in other cases ulcers, high blood pressure... But what a way to die!
-
Although two consecutive save situations shouldn't be too much for a closer, there are extenuating circumstances: 1) Jenks' youth and inexperience in these situations; 2) cold weather; 3) his inconsistency (see #1 above). That said, I would prefer to see someone else get the nod tomorrow night. Yeah, what the hell has happened to Hermanson? I think we all know he's unavailable, but one would think that someone on the Sox staff would be asked about his condition/availability. Is his condition so bad that he can't withstand one inning of relief???

QUOTE(mkalk @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) There is one good thing about off days. They let you regain your voice. JUST TWO MORE!!! Days off also help the liver to recuperate.

Any stats on how Buerhle or for that matter Pettite have pitched in cold weather and rainy conditions?
-
Aren't we all looking a bit older because of this season?
-
Anytime you make (good) "history," it's worth celebrating!
-
I'm optimistic about tonight. We looked a bit rusty after our long rest, but this time, unlike the first game against the LAA, we won. I expect us to be sharper still for Game #2. Rain and cold will be interesting factors in that mix, though

I also have this feeling we'll tag Clemens for more than a couple of runs. It's the rookies we make look like Cy Young, not the Phenoms like Clemens. BTW, there have been posts that say it is hard to "hate" the Astros. In general, that's true, but don't Clemens and Garner merit good ol' fashion "hate"? They've been jerks.

Between the Sox wins and my friend's wedding, my liver is on the verge of a lawsuit.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) Most of these games are going to be decided by 2 runs or less so one of my key is if Taveras is in the lineup keep him off base cause he'll produce a run himself if Freddy or Jose is out there. Besides that, get Podsednik on base the way he was getting on base for the two previous series. I've said it before, PODS is god. When we were tearing up the league, he was getting on base and stealing at will. When he was injured, we suffered. I'm also looking for an unexpected "surprise" in this Series. I keep thinking and wanting Rowand to have a .400 series. If he did that, you could put the entire championship on the board!
-
Hermanson may not have been a viable saver in this Series anywho, but it will have to be Jenks and the others who will be the go-to guys.
-
Congratulations, Ozzie. No one more deserving. Ozzie is a perfect fit not only for this team but for us fans. We're both very blunt with each other. We fans have let Ozzie know when we disapprove and he knows how to express his feelings back. :finger Need more be said? It's a true marriage.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) The funniest thing is stuff that Jay writes can also be found here, yet we accept it from posters here. As soon as Jay's column is printed, Sox fans rush to rip it. Difference: Marrotti is always slamming everything Sox: organization, fans, ballpark. The key word again = always
