He's an idiot whose columns consistenly show animus against the Sox.

Welcome to Soxtalk. BTW, what did you do to get banned from WSI?

Could the Sox have an "Angels effect" on Chicago?
kevin57 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) The Cubs have a lot of long term problems. They shot the wad in terms of payroll in the last couple of seasons and are fairly tied down in terms of contracts right now. They have literally no flexibility. If Wood and Prior continue their "OW OW MY ARM" routine, there's no way they'll even be competitive the next few seasons. Not to turn this into a Cub thread, but the fact that they rehired every last coach from this last disastrous year is an indication that they're not feeling a whole lot of pressure yet. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) How the hell can you justify booing anybody associated with this team? Damn, some of you people that call yourself Sox fans. I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. a little harsh, my friend. I'm against booing Sox players, too...and it's especially classless during an Intro., but the frustration at Marte--and especially Guillen--is understandable. It does not disqualify them from being Sox fans.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) We have to win these first 2 games while their pitching is depleted. They'll be throwing out their worst. A split in Chicago is a loss. I think that's a little too fatalistic. A split, yes, is essential, and of course, I would love a 2-game lead going to LA, but I wouldn't count a split as a loss. Confidence!

For perspective sake, you may want to add what your prediction was for the Sox-Sawk series.

I know because of work many of us want to see evening ball for the ALCS. Do you think we would play better overall in daylight (it's gonna get really chilly) in mid-October at night?
-
I feel pretty much like I did before the first game against Boston. Like a lot of others here, I was kind of calm, pretty confident. Now, as the series progressed, I got more and more nervous. I predict that will happen with me again.

Okay, I'll fire a shot across the bow... I'm wondering if Ozzie likes Marte, despite all logic, because he's a "home boy" (i.e., Hispanic). That should get some conversation going!

Rowand was definitely the one who gave a "creepy rant." What the hell is a "creepy rant"?
-
I figured it would almost have to be Garland. Otherwise, he'll be "too" rested, perhaps. Although Jon has had a break-out sort of year, there's still a bit of nervousness over which Garland will show up this time around. I think Jon will rise to the occasion. He has something to prove. Question: how does he fare at home as opposed to away?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) I think Ozzie went to Marte instead of Cotts because we had a 2 game and 2 run lead. He was still trying to get Marte straightened out because he thinks he'll need him. I think Marte has pitched his last game in a Sox uniform. One can only hope and

So many of us have commented on this already it gets frustrating. :banghead For some unknown and ungodly reason, Ozzie loves Marte. Why he doesn't go more often to Cotts is a mystery. I've heard the b.s. reason of Cotts' "delivery style" not being as effective against some hitters...as compared to whom? Marte?

As huge as Jenks has been so far, I would still feel a whole lot more comfortable with Hermy ready in the wings.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) "No, Mark, it doesn't look like they'll be stealing signs from here."

I remember my uncle--a huge Sox fan--saying to my brother and me as kids when we were arguing once about the Sox and Cubs: "The Sox will win a pennant before the Cubs." He died in 1977. What a prophet! (I believe) Unc, I hope you're smiling in heaven right now.

The true fans will stick out in any crowd... just look for how dirty their sox hat is. I wouldn't use this criterion. I wore my cap last night, first time ever outside of a game. For me, it's almost religious garb to don my Sox attire. But I wear it with love and devotion and pride.

If even Hawk is down on Marte, then Ozzie is his only friend in this world Damn that's tough!

There's a mischievous part of me that would want to play the Angels, if for no other reason than with no Yankees around it would send ESPN and the entire Eastern Seaboard into panic and dispair. The rational side of me, however, prefers to play the Yankees for all the reasons already cited.
-
I dislike both terms, especially the "Shoeless Joe Jackson Curse." White Sox fans have never resorted to such nonsense (unlike some other fans) to rationalize poor play. We should "self-censor" both terms. However, I fully expect that both terms will receive greater attention on the national stage, if for no other reason, than with the "storied" Yankees (possibly) out and the "fabled" Bosox gone, they'll need an angle. Especially because we don't have any "marquee" players(?) What is most irritating about baseball coverage these days is how even "analysts" have forgotten that the greatest of this sport is found not in "personalities" but in excellent execution of the little things like gound balls (sorry TG).

QUOTE(thatballhitdeep @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) i think ozzie dropped the soap and marte was the only guy left in the shower LMAO. I've been saying for a while that something has to give with this Guillen-Marte thing. It defies logic. Why not call on Cotts? Some argue that his delivery style wouldn't be effective against certain hitters. Like Marte is effective against them?

I hate to disagree but I don't mind the bandwagoners. I just realize that their loyalty is only about as deep as the next disappointment, and usually their knowledge of the game is paper thin. I recognize that and live with it. Real Sox fans know each other instinctively.

I was at Monk's downtown for the last out. Then, it was on to Cork & Kerry and finally Keegans. I must have gotten home okay but my head was not too okay this morning
