  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Good to see that he is working hard in the off-season. Ummm...its the first week in November and outside of the all-star break, these guys don't get a vacation (yes, I know they get an off-season but according to you they should be punching the clock year round). These guys do go out during the season too so what's to say, BA didn't spend 15 hours in the cage or batting against some Brad Penny fastballs before hitting the town. Besides, it actually looked like BA was calm and defusing the situation before it escalated...spouting off about some 95 or 96 Mercedes...are those vintage or something?
  2. Most everyone on the board expects what KW says to the media right now to be a smokescreen so maybe the "big surprise" is that there are no smokescreens and we're going with this in-house talent?!?
  3. Snooze fest. For the 10 other people that think it might be a good idea to read this...don't.
  4. You may be down on them but konerko and vasquez have value. Fields and Broadway have some value too even though they didn't on the south side. I agree that halladay and rios was a reach but we can get some real good players for that package and KW just might surprise.
  5. CQ and Dye are the RH power. Thome the LH power. Swish stays and plays first. I think Konerko upped his value once again at the end of the season and he'll be traded. Konerko, Vasquez, Fields, Broadway to Blue Jays for Halladay and Rios (not sure what the needs are for teams but KW will get a top flight starter and some speed). Cabrera, Crede gone. Sign Hudson. We'll likely keep Uribe at 3rd, given lack of options but if we can get Rolen from bluejays too, that's be nice. Lexi plays short. Hudson Swish CQ Dye Thome Rios Lexi AJ Uribe Hall Anderson Wise Getz Halladay Buehrle Danks Floyd Poreda Jenks Thornton Linebrink Dotel Russell Richard Carrasco
  6. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) As others have mentioned at the game he came in throwing 97. Danks was consistently around 92. More importantly, who is that woman in your avatar Whitewashed and what is she doing?
  7. With the 4-some of Griffey, Swish, Thome and PK as options to play CF-DH-1B, we will have a power bat on the bench (if Wise is in left or CQ back in there). If CQ out and Swish and Griffey in LF/CF, then we have power bats through-out the line-up capable of hitting a homer. The only one that is unlikely to hit a homer in that situation is Cabrera but you wouldn't pinch hit for him in a tight game any way. I don't think Josh makes the roster as a "power bat off the bench." AJP Kong Alexei Cabrera Uribe Dye Griffey Swish Thome Hall Wise Anderson Bourgeiois Javy MB Floyd Danks Jenks Thornton Linebrink Dotel Carrasco Richard Ramirez MacDougal I think we carry 3 lefties in the pen against the Rays given the number of left-handed hitters in their line-up. We could use Ramirez to face Carlos Pena who's below the Mendoza against LHP.
  8. Can Joe Crede make a cameo for just one at bat so we can get a homer to win it and then he can go back in exile.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) This would really be the time for Thome to just bunt the ball. or go yard!
  10. white sox 94 - 68 (18-12 the rest of the way) twins 89 - 73 (15-15 the rest of the way) white sox over devil rays 3 - 1 white sox over angels 4 - 2 white sox over brewers 4 - 2 world champs!
  11. Lyle Mouton. According to Hawk, Craig Grebeck was "Little Hurt" and Mouton was "Baby Frank." I remember how I thought this offense was going to be unreal in the late '90s with Frank, a young "El Caballo" Carlos Lee, Maggs, a young Konerko and "Baby Frank" Mouton. Well, 4 of those 5 have had pretty damn good careers...but obscure Lyle Mouton was left out in the cold.
  12. Piranhas vs. Grinders Piranhas win hands down. Twins take the division...easily [reverse jinx ].
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) I didn't know masset was french. If "Reeshar" is french, then "Massay" must be french. He probably got it mixed up and thinks its "Massay" and "Richer"
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) Please don't question my fandom. Its an argument you will lose. I'm saying Griffey isn't very good anymore. If he's playing CF think Carl Everett in 2003 and Rob Mackowiak in 2006, maybe slightly better. If you read the context of my post, I am not questioning your fandom. I simply responded in similar fashion to what you said, questioning the fandom of anyone that is critical of Paul Konerko. So spare me the drama in making yourself some type of martyr for this discussion and Paul Konerko. Its a tired form of discussion and one that you, sir, will lose in the eyes of most posters. Thome and Konerko both struggled early in the year...Thome has picked it up, Konerko hasn't. Griffey struggled in the beginning of the year and now Griffey has picked it up. Griffey is not as good as he was before (which was HOF-caliber) but he is still pretty decent...everything is relative to the person and how they have performed. We are not acquiring Everett or Mackowiak..those guys were never good defensive players...Griffey was the best and now he can be adequate but for the price, this is a good deal. Beyond that, Griffey's bat replacing Konerko's bat is a big upgrade.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) I'm a fan of the White Sox. I want them to acquire good players. Griffey is no better than what was already here IMO. Its 2008 not 1996. I really am not a big Konerko fan, I just have been astounded by all the crap he gets from people who claim to be White Sox fans. You can be a White Sox fan and call out a player that has underperformed...especially given his contract and stature as team captain. I don't think you are any more of White Sox fan because you defend Paul Konerko...if anything you are less of a fan for not fixing what is broken and Konerko is broken right now.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) Ah it wouldn't be a thread without dick bringing up konerko again. And everyone, Thome and Konerko will not platoon at dh, thome hits righties and lefties better than paul. We all know Griffey isn't going to play everyday cf, so something else is going to happen. I'd look for kw to possibly flip jr to someone like the mets or az for pen help. Or send Konerko to Arizona for Micah Owings (recently sent to AAA) and a spect
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) any chance we can get the big hurt? 20 pages too late...also been mentioned, Bonds and Sosa. Should've been mentioned but weren't because of the the black-white thing, Palmeiro and McGwire.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) Mentally fragile Konerko has had some of the biggest ABs in White Sox history. I am granting him his big at-bats and thus why we should treat him well and be a part of the club (the bench a la Frank Thomas in '05) so he can right himself next year. It has long been known that Konerko is extremely self-critical and has a tough time getting out of slumps because he gets down on himself (see most Aprils). Ozzie and KW have commented on his self-criticism/frustration. So when he is mired in the slump of all slumps, you cannot expect him to just snap out of it....and yes when it comes to slumps, he is mentally fragile.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) OK, OK, I've got it all figured out. Cabrera will get traded next, for a pitcher. Konerko will be moved to Shortstop, where his offensive numbers won't look as bad. Dye to 1B. Griffey in RF. Why don't we put Konerko back behind the plate. He couldn't be any worse than AJ at throwing out runners. Or better yet, move Konerko back to 3rd and trade Fields for a SP.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) And he would want to go to SF why? Konerko is going nowhere, just hope he gets hot. Hard to get hot, when you're riding pine. Hopefully has a few good BP sessions. I am just worried that the mentally fragile Konerko will hang his head even more and this will make him completely useless...he's close right now but for what he has done for this organization, we owe him a mulligan for this season. Just not at the cost of the penant so sit for a majority of this year (be a solid bench producer) and get things right next year.
  21. QUOTE (JohnStamos @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) Well considering the trade deadline is hours away I feel pretty confident in saying that Paul Konerko will be on the White Sox for the rest of the season. Finding someone who wants him, getting him to waive his 10-5, and finalizing a deal before 3 is not something that I would call possible right now. Maybe another deal is already agreed to in principle, Uncle Jesse, and just awaiting this deal to be completed?

  23. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) Well we could have post #400 wondering where he will play You could go to the Cincy board and probably see a bunch of people asking where is Richar going to play? With Brandon Phillips there, would Richar move to SS?
  24. QUOTE (quickman @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) this is a joke right? Who the hell cares? Your worried about a number? I just heard that the deal was not done yet and was contingent on Griffey agreeing to a jersey number of his choice.
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) Danny Richar is not f***ing insignificant! The Reds are picking up part of the salary as is expected in all Reinsdorf signed-off trades for big ticket guys. The future is probably a double play duo of Ramirez and Beckham with Getz or others in a utility role. So, you're right...not insignificant but certainly not anything that would make me break off talks. Griffey, if he gets hot, can carry this offense for the stretch run and it might be worth the risk of giving up Richar.
