  1. #2 hitter with speed = Willie Harris! I'm sorry but Iguchi is not a DH. I am sure with all the times he had to sacrifice his at-bat batting second, his numbers would be better in another spot but .270 15 75 from the 2nd spot do not project to .320 35 120 or what we have grown accustomed to from our DH over the previous decade. We can keep Iguchi at 2nd and bat him down in the order and find a DH that could offer us a little bit more as all he needs to do is hit.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) I still don't want Rowand traded until after the '06 season. Unless a trade comes up for Delgado, I really don't want to see Row moved. The .900 OPS CF from '04 was so f***in' good, he needs one more season to prove it wasn't a fluke. I agree completely. Brian Anderson may or may not be ready for the majors and whatever his ceiling is, I include him in a trade rather than Rowand because of the plethora of OF prospects we have. Anderson, regardless of the few at-bats he got this season in the majors, is still a prospect. I keep a potential gold-glove CF who epitomizes our style of play and has shown the potential at the plate (.900 OPS in '04) and then decide to replace him with Young, Owens, Sweeney, etc if needed. What are we going to do with all the OF prospects? And no, I don't foresee Rowand, Pods and Dye all gone so that we can continue to contend in 2007 with Owens, Young, Anderson and Sweeney as our 4 OFs. They will be worked in slowly not all thrown out there. As far as other teams, do you want the WhiteSox top prospect (leaving McCarthy off here) in Anderson or a solid major league OF in Rowand (as he is perceived)? Most will take Anderson so I think we get get more for Anderson (i.e. not have to include additional top prospects in a Delgado deal). Florida can build on Anderson and Hermida in the OF.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Borchard could not start on this team when they sucked for a few years. There is NO WAY he'll start, and probably not even be in the majors, the year after they won the World Series. I agree if its the same Borchard. I think that something will click and he will be able to consistently hit for power. Maybe a .260 hitter but with 35 HR and 90+ RBIs, I think he could be an upgrade to Crazy Carl as a switch hitter. Sometimes it takes guys longer like Pods, etc. but once they find their niche, they maybe able to do some damage. Would you keep Borchard if you thought you might get 40HR and 150K? Its a trade-off but pop from the left side (majority of the time) might be worth it, especially if we lost Kong.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) I'm pretty sure he broke his clavicle or something. Pretty sure it wasn't anything in his leg. Oh, then it might have been the foreleg of the deer that he was hauling...either way, I remember feeling a sense of "karma" in the air after reading the article.
  5. What about Jerry Owens as far as the OF prospect depth chart? Rowand in the majors, Anderson likely a sub or first call-up. Borchard as DH/OF sub after spring training or with different organization. Young a year away. Sweeney a couple years away. Where does Owens fit in, if at all. I always thought he was being groomed to be Pods replacement in 2007. Pods, the way his base stealing tailed off at the end of the year and the nagging injuries along with suspect defense probably doesn't have more than a couple good years left so I could see him doing his thing again in 2006 and then getting traded for some other piece so Owens can take over in left.
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) Helton wants to be apart of the ever lasting youth movement in colorado and will likely end up ending his career there. If not it will be awfully close. This is the main reason he is never apart of trade rumors. Anyone know if he lives there? Because i cannot understand why we wants to be with a team that will likely never succeed. Helton likes little boys? He does kind of look like that guy on Saturday Night Live, Chris Parnell, who I always think looks like a pedophile. In actuality, I think Helton likes the lifestyle in Colorado. I remember reading he has a lot of land there and he goes hunting, etc. on his property. In fact, the Colorado rookie phenom Clint Barmes got hurt when he fell down carrying up a slab of deer meat that he hunted on Todd Helton's property. I'm not a fan of hunting because I think it is totally unfair as the animal does not get to brandish a gun and try and kill you back but when I heard that story, I thought it was pretty apropos that Barmes broke his leg going up the stairs with a hind leg of a deer...an eye for an eye...almost. I voted for Delgado because he is like Konerko from the leftside of the plate and would fit the latin culture of the WS team. I would love to have Kong back too but I just think our playoff run and his performance put him well beyond our monetary scope. However, I also like the idea of getting Hideki Matsui and moving Dye to 1B if possible.
  7. Has everyone given up on Rowand? A slight sophomore slump at the plate (even though he was right on par with most of the team in terms of avg., runs, etc.) and improved, stellar outfield play and he is already written off? I agree he has to cut down on his strikeouts and get more plate discipline but he's still relatively young and an outstanding centerfielder, a solid teammate and the epitome of "grinder" baseball. I don't think you make big shake-ups to a championship team. We know how we won: pitching & defense and we know what we need: a left-handed bat and possible power in the middle of the line-up to replace Carl, Frank and/or Konerko. So, I think the team should look like this (if Kong leaves): LF: Pods 2B: Iguchi RF: Giles or Hideki Matsui (although, I wouldn't mind keeping Dye here and getting a left-handed 1B: Overbay?) 1B: Dye DH: Thomas or Borchard (I think he will have a great spring in his last shot with WS) C: Pierzynski CF: Rowand 3B: Crede SS: Uribe Bench: Widger ( C), Anderson (OF), Harris (IF), Ozuna (IF), Gload/Rogo (1B) or if we get Overbay instead of Giles or Matsui...maybe Owens (OF).
  8. Its voted on by peers so a lot of it is political. Kenny was furiously inquiring about and made trades in the off-season and then was burning up the phones all the way up to the trade deadline so I am sure he pissed off quite a few other GMs. Negotiations are never really that pretty and when both teams are trying to get the best deal without paying a premium, things can get heated. I'm sure Kenny is pretty intense during these discussions trying to do whatever he can to get the players he wants while helping the Sox, which he did so to hell with a popularity vote for GM of the Year, I'm sure he'd rather have the hardware that matters.
  9. Nice reply. I think Fumelli's days as a respected columnist in the vaunted HoyaNews have come to an end. The sad part is...instead of getting to enjoy the WS championship, we are left to debate some pencil-toting geek at a school newspaper. Screw all of them...again nice work, Marty.
  10. The left side of the infield (Crede and Uribe). #8 and #9 hitters delivered big time in the post-season from the plate and unbelievably took their already stellar defense to a new level.
  11. These sportsnation rankings are like popularity contests or voting with the heart instead of the head. After reading some of the responses on the board, it appears that we White Sox fans are more objective and ranking with the head, so I decided to buck the trend and put them #1 and then make sure the ones ahead of us had lower rankings so to even out the bias that comes from the Yankee Empire and RedSox Nation. Realistically, the '98 Yanks, the '89 A's and the '90 Reds may have been slightly better on paper and perhaps the '93 Jays and '04 Red Sox may have been close...but I would never count this years White Sox out against any of them as they seem to defy the odds and win...thus White Sox still #1 in my heart and head.
  12. My initial reaction was the same as Konerko's...I looked at the umpire and saw him begin to rear back with his right arm and then I put both arms forward and said a quiet "Yes" as my wife was sleeping it the other room (Yankees Fan...she's from NY and we live in NY). I then proceeded to jump up and down in slow motion...again very quietly...adding to the whole surreal effect as if I were in a dream and couldn't talk or move in regular speed. Then I called/ sent text messages to all my ChiSox friends in Chicago who were out celebrating. Unreeaaaaallllll!
  13. Stayed up until 2:30 am (in NY) and am dragging at work now. But I have to say it was much easier to get up in the morning at 6 am after a great win. I hope that loss last night completely demoralizes the Astros and we go onto a blow-out win today because I don't think my stomach can stand another nail biter and I certainly don't want to stay up until 2:30 glued to a set, I would much rather be glued to a bar stool celebrating.
  14. I voted for Kong because he delivered the 1 of 3 clutch hits so far with the grand slam plus he has a calming influence it seems on the rest of the club. He is the leader. Joe Crede is close with the way he's hit and his stellar fielding. I can't wait to stick a fork in Phil "Yosemite Sam" Garner or better yet, have Carl Everett take him out back for a serious whooping.
  15. Hey Kalapse, maybe you have already explained this and I missed it but why do you have the "Joe, Row and Po" signature with pics of Crede, Rowand, and AJ (instead of Scott Pod?)
  16. Konerko shot coming up right after this break.
  17. QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) Segment prob edited before the Crede HR shot Yeah. I hope so. Like I said, it better displace the over the shoulder catch by the Royals (which was #2) behind Bonds' 706th homer...a monster shot.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) Who really cares? ESPN has long ignored the existence of the White Sox. For someone out of market (NY in my case), I care. I will only get to see the play in replay on national shows so I want to see it...I guess I'll go to whitesox.com and watch it over and over.
  19. Sure it was the 11 o'clock show and the game had ended 15 minutes ago but they showed the highlight and their crack staff couldn't get it in there !?! I hope they update the 1 o'clock show. A huge game in a tight divisional race and a walk-off homer doesn't make the list, while a over the shoulder catch between the royals and tigers does...that's garbage.
  20. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Mandatory for all Soxtalkers to have the Rally Crede, you gotta believe. I'm in...and I believe in the Crede. And I believe in Aaron Rowand. And Jenks will be a post-season monster...when we face ARod, Sheffield and Giambi...Ortiz, Ramirez and Varitek...and Anderson, Guerrero and Molina. Don't screw this up, Ozzie.
  21. HUGE Win. Joe f***in Crede is right...that's what they're saying in Cleveland. He has always been clutch...I'll take .250 and clutch as opposed to .300 and nervous.
  22. Was that hit softly? Why didn't they turn two?
  23. Come on. Let's get this guy. This freakin lineup is so scary....they are all on fire and all seem to be Sox killers. Let's get this done now.
