QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) Paying for saves is not very smart. Billy Koch is a perfect example. We traded for him because he had a ton of saves. Also, does a healthy Hermanson have a ton of trade value because he had 34 saves last season? He shouldn't. He doesn't strike anyone out and many of his saves were shaky and helped by great defense. You are better off going by a closer's peripherals such as K/9, BB/9, and all-around stuff. I would agree that you are better off looking at K/BB. But I would say you are better off not paying an outrageous amount of money for it too. If Ryan turns into Billy Koch, they are stuck with him for 4 years. Not to mention the Jays must have shot there wad. With the money left over, do they have enough money to sign Jose Hernandez.

Somebody should compile the definitive list of prospects we dealt that didn't pan out. (Royce Ring, Jeremy Reed, Jon Rauch, etc) Compare it with any that did. (Does Bobby Bonilla count?)

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) Umm -- who cares about the saves. 12.50 Ks/9 the last two years. He's really good, no doubt, but just not this good. I would care about saves if that is what I am paying him to do. Carlos Lee had double digit steals for the White Sox one year, yet I would never consider him an established base stealer. By the same logic, I would not consider Ryan an established closer after ONE GOOD SEASON. Ryan was good in that one season.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Crede's back would be a major question if I was Kenny...but I'd love to see him locked up for 3 more years. For whatever reason, there have been a lot more whispers about Crede's back in the last week. This concerns me when considering keeping him long term. It concerns me even more than the fact that Crede has never put a full season together yet. Will he hit year round like he did in the playoffs is a question yet to be answered. I don't see KW making out a big check any time soon.

Marlins want to move

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) You cant have 15 teams in each league.... thats why the NL has 16 teams and the AL 14..... The way around that is having interleague play year round. There was talk of it before the Brewers moved the NL. I'm not sure how it was supposed to work out but it would never happen anyway. Marlins are staying in the NL. -
That is a stupid move. Did the Jays re-hire Gord Ash and the rest of us not know it? Before last year, most people never heard of BJ. The guy has 42 career saves. In his career, he has not even done what Bobby Thigpen did in a year.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 04:10 AM) For all of you who hate this trade I have some names for you... Josh Stewart, Felix Diaz, Arnie Munoz.... At one time or another all stud pitchers this site went gaga over... Add Royce Ring to the "Where are they now" White Sox Prospect list too. Seems not to fit the closer mold for the Mets these days. -
Whip the Cubs CLee style ARow!! Love you, and gonna miss you. Sign an extension with the Phillies for a ton of $$$, you are worth it!

Insurance for Anderson in CF
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to suffering-nomore-sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I Willie, per chance, ends up the starting CF, Does that mean we are down to the Forgotten one w/ Blum and Timo gone leaving only Ozuna on the bench? -

QUOTE(bulokis @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Bruce just added that the Sox are not after Pierre. Which means in Bruce-Speak that Pierre will be fitted for his Sox hat on Friday. -

The Score is suggesting the CUbs are close to getting Pierre and KW is intent on starting BA in CF. -

If playing BA in CF is the difference between PK coming back and not coming back, I am OK with that. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) BA ~ Rowand offensively and ~ Rowand defensively. BA > Pierre defensively. Thome > Everett Offensively. You should be a math teacher. Here's one: White Sox - Jerry Manual = White Sox + Ozzie = Championship -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) anderson will play over timo, no doubt. the one thing i question with anderson is his range which is certainly not as good as rowands....but his arm is +++.....one of the top OF arms in the minor leagues Good to know Anderson can play CF. Did he play CF in the minors? I apologize Timo being the starting CF should be in green. -
White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How good of an CFer is Brian Anderson? In theory, even Carl Everett could play Cf as he did with the Rangers. But could BA be an average to above average CF? I would hate to see them back off on BA in May and have Ozzie's buddy Timo as our new starting CF. -

Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Arow is a great defensive CF. However, I think he is a lot like Edmonds in that he makes SOME plays look tougher than they are. Still Rowand is probably in the top five defensive CFers in the game. Still, he is replaceable as much as I like him. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) Besides I think most people like this trade as opposed to the Pods trade. IMO, I think a poll might show most people do not like the Thome deal. I like though. -

Went to the Phillies message board, they are PISSED about this deal. Grant it that they do not know much about the prospects, but they hate eating half the salary. -
