12/20 arbitration deadline (Garland,AJ,Crede,Mack)
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) I think Willie is as good as gone. Ozuna can play second base and provide speed off the bench. Mackowiak can also play some second base. I think when Willie declined to play in Winter ball this offseason and learn how to play shortstop, he earned his way off the team in KW's eyes. Looking at it that way you might be right. But then again, I do not pretend to understand KW nor guess at what is brewing in his mind. -

12/20 arbitration deadline (Garland,AJ,Crede,Mack)

I suspect Willie will be back. But Timo serves no purpose. Period. He has no qualities that can not be purchased a lot cheaper (under a mil). Frankly, I do not care if Timo is even in the big leagues next league. However, the Cubs still do need a RF. (Notice the lack of green on my last comment.) -
QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 04:36 AM) what, no mention of bob james? for shame, boys, for shame. I mentioned him on the previous page. How about one of my all time favorite Sox players. Chet Lemon. IMO, In today's era of short porches and catchers that can't throw, I think he could have easily been a 30/30 guy. I hate when he wsa traded to the Tigers. Detroit is one place that I don't like players that I like going. Which is why I don't mind Maggggglio being there.

I always thought he had a lot of potential, just never had the opportunity to realize it. Anyway, wish him the best on the Triple A team in Miami.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Jose DeLeon If you are going to bring up Deleon, you may as well bring up that low level prospect that we traded for him ( in his first stint with the team), Bobby Bonilla. Thanks Hawk!

QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Donnie Hill. I always thought Donnie Hill looked like a woman. HE was just sort of soft looking, nothing against him, Here's another ... Bob James, closer 86-87ish. As I recall he had a decent fastball but nothing more.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) No way. KW's real target is Robbie Alomar. Withholds Carl Everett reference. The sharks are really tearing this one up. May as well flush this thread down the crapper.

I forbid KW from trading with Beane. Beane is an even greater swindler than KW.

QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) -I'll post the name of a relatively obscure white sox player from the past -you post a memory/moment that you remember about him -you post your own player I'll get it started with....... LORENZO BARCELO Speaking of Lorenzo, how about the guy being groomed to replace Vance Law ... No not Tim Hullet ... Lorenzo Gray

QUOTE(Wanne @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) I swear to God...I once heard Harry call Chuck McElroy three different names in the same inning. ... and that was sober. That would be a good post for us older fans. White Sox names that Harry butchered.

QUOTE(NO!!MARY!!! @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) I don't want to kick the Dybber, never did. It wasn't his fault. Greg Fatassinski contributed his fair share of whiffs, though I don't want to kick his fat ass either. I'll leave that psycho bulls*** to Cardinal, Cub and Red Sox fans. George Foster was hardly obscure, but I remember him homering in his first White Sox at-bat, then doing nothing after. Hey, let's go kick his ass, man! You may choose to consult the message board guidelines before venting your anger this way in the future at other members.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) Played for the Sox briefly in '86. Last man to hit 50 HRs in a season before Cecil Fielder. Ken Hill. Luis Andujar or Liu Rodriguez Speaking of Hill, how about Marc Hill. Or from the VERY OBSCURE ... Kelly Paris.

Twins agree to terms with Tony Batista
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to Pierzynski 12's topic in The Diamond Club
I guess they couldn't go out and spend the big bucks on Julio Franco. Brian Daubach is still available if the twins are interested, as is Rickey Henderson. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) To be honest, that would be the only way I'd trade Jon to the Angels if one of the spects we were getting back was Brandon Wood. Otherwise, I'd prefer not to send him to an AL playoff contender. Agreed. If it came down to the Angels and White Sox for the Wild Card, if Garland beats the Sox, no more love for KW.
-
I think one of the keys has to be sending Garland to the NL. Obviously, you do not trade him to somebody in your division. But if we are in the wild card at the end (hypothetically), I would not want to be pitted against the team that has Garland. I would love to see Garland go to an NL Central that is not in Chicago.

... and there was much rejoicing!

QUOTE(Wanne @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) One of the names that jumps out at me from the past...and I still wanna kick him right in the ass...although not obscure... Jerry Dybzinski We all want to kick the Dybber, just a lot less after the 2005 season. Here's another name. George Foster.

Reid Nichols

I second the cheers for Jerry. When he's no longer the owner, I hope The Cell sits at the corner of Veeck Drive and Reinsdorf Street.

Milton Bradley traded to the A's

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Washburn also wasn't offered arbitration so he too is a goner. I did not know that. A related thought; the Angels could enter the Milwood sweepstakes and get really scary. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) The Angels have definately regressed...as of right now. They have a worse catcher (Jose Molina instead of Bengie Molina), still a gaping hole with not even a warm body @ DH, they've lost 2 starting pitchers and only have Ervin Santana available to replace them. On the other hand...this is a situation which could turn around very fast. I'm thinking mroe and more that Molina may well wind up accepting arbitration and end up with the Angels for another year, since the Mets already have a catcher and they were the ones that this year's catcher crop was holding out for. Furthermore, they still have Dallas McPherson @ 3rd base, and he was starting to show signs of big-league promise last year before he was hurt. They also have youth available to fill holes. For all we know Finley or Anderson could have a better season next year if they're healthy. And then of course, they're still the big variable...the trade request from Manny. Don't count the Angels out as regressing yet. They have a ton of young talent, including pitching talent that they could pull into the big leagues, they have tons of people they could trade, and they have a ton of money to spend. Good Post. The Angels scare me more than the Yanks or Red Sox at this point. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Losing two of their better starters from last year in Washburn and Byrd is what I was referring to. EDIT: By the way, dont put me down for any predictions yet, I said as of right now the A's should be the favorites. That being said, there is still plenty of time left in the offseason for the Angels to make some moves. Byrd and Washburn are replacable. Washburn may yet come back.
