Even with the small sample size, it is encouraging to see the Sox scoring on playoff caliber team's closers.

The Sox are 8-8 since Mariotti went on his "little vacation" from the Tribune. The Sox were 49-26 before that point, coincidence?

Hunter on the 15 Day DL now too: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2521178

If you compare Pods to other Leftfielders he is not that good, but not many of them leadoff either. If you put his stats up against the other leadoff hitters, he is somewhere in the middle. So that would mean half of the leadoff hitters in the league suck if Pods sucks.

I'm with Beck. Even if the Sox play poorly against Detroit, I still feel they have a great chance at making the playoffs. The Sox are currently in a rut/slump and it would be less noticeable if they just played some of the lower tier teams, but unfortunately they played the Sawks and Yanks and were exposed. The Sawks and Yanks were actually lucky to play the Sox at the right time. Chances are the next time they will not be so lucky. Also, I still believe the Sox have not played their best ball yet, with everything clicking on all cylinders. Even on offense there is normally a couple of guys struggling while the others are hot. The pitching has been disappointing but all they have to do is pitch somewhere between what they did in the 1st Half and their career averages, and this team wins 100+ easily. That is not asking much.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) Paulie might have been able to get 5-$70 from the Orioles had he really pushed them. Supposedly they told him they were willing to go higher, but he just didn't want to play there. And I for one think someone is going to be pushing $70 or more for Zito. :puke

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) If we pick up Abreu's contract there is. I just don't see it straight up, even if we take his contract. The Phillies can get more for those two players than just Vazquez and Pods, and they know that.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line

You've been Wiki-ed! -
There is no way Philly does that without the Sox giving up someone like Fields too. I would love to see that move but it is totally lopsided for the Sox. McCarthy starting in place of Vazquez/Garcia Gordon in relief in place of McCarthy Abreu in LF in place of Pods Too good to be true without giving up more.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) i would love to say your right, and this will shake up mojo, but Nate Robertson is a left handed pitcher, which means that Chris Widger + Pablo Ozuna will be out there, Zer Lame! I think with the importance of the game and series, you will see AJ in there for the entire series, especially with the day off tomorrow. Even though every game counts in the standings, you can't underestimate the importance of head to head Divisional play. Garland is due for a solid outing, lets get some confidence back!
-
Another disheartening thing about this series was the Sox were only playing against about 75% of the Yankees real starting lineup for the first two games, and less than that for Game 3 with Damon out, and the Sox still dropped three. Besides pitching, the clutch hitting, and managing have been horrible. The series vs Detroit is now more important than ever.

Wow, what a novel concept, taking the starting pitcher out BEFORE he gives up 6+ runs. -

From all the media outlets, KW is listening to offers, but the rumors are just that, rumors. Daily Herald: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/whitesox.asp?id=208283 Sun-Times: http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sside16.html Tribune: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines I like this one about Widger:

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) I would rather stretch out bmac, have him in the rotation while some of our starters get some DL rest time. Then move Tracey in the bullpen. Our team has a much better shot at winning with bmac in the rotation over Tracey. I was thinking the same thing. You could rotate the starters on the DL and have McCarthy filling in for their slots in the rotation. Then come September the Sox would have a more rested rotation for a playoff run.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) Every pitcher struggles at some point in the season. Buehrle himself once said that 1/3rd of the time, a pitcher has his stuff; the other third, he doesn't; and the last, he only has some of it. Let's just hope Mark got all of the "he doesn't" out of him over the last few starts and finds his stuff for the remainder of the year.

Looks like Minnesota just got hit with the injury bug. Stewart has already missed a ton of games and now he is back on the DL: Hunter is Day-to-Day but it doesn't look good: That leaves their outfield desimated as they recalled Rondell White from his own rehab assignment in Triple-A. Lew Ford is also on the DL from July 13th.
