QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 29, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) not if we keep losing to them. ????? We haven't played them this year. Normally you have to lose to them first before you can "keep" to losing them. In 2007 we were 12-6 vs them, compare that to DET and CLE who were 11-7 vs KC, and MIN who was 9-9 vs them. So I don't know where you get the "keep losing" part from. Last year it was our record vs the NL (4-14) and SEA/BOS (2-14) that killed us.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2008 -> 06:28 AM) Minny came back in the 9th to beat KC. So... 29-23, +2 on MIN, +5.5 on CLE, +7.5 on DET, +8.5 on KC KC is making a loss into an art form. Minnesota has allowed more runs than they've scored, so more than likely their record will adjust.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Well their bullpen is just as talented as the Sox is, save Borowski (who should be DFA'ed by July 1st if he pitches like I think he will), so that's atleast what is going to make or break them. If it turns around, they'll perform pretty well; otherwise, they're a .500 team, like nearly every team in the majors with a mediocre bullpen. I don't think Cleveland's bullpen is anywhere close to ours with or without Borowski. Linebrink and Jenks alone trump anything the Indians can throw out there in the 8th and 9th. Cleveland just looks like a bad team right now. Which I like to see. Their only chance is in June where they have one of the easiest schedules (23 games vs losing teams) in recent memory (KC, TEX, DET, MIN, SD, COL, LAD, SF, CIN). The 2 best teams they face record-wise are MIN and LAD, both 1 game above .500. In comparison, we have 12 games vs losing teams, and 10 games vs teams with over 30 wins (TB, CHC).

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) Agreed. Though I will say Cleveland will likely be there at the end. Their starting pitching is incredible, and if their offense gets hot, which I imagine it will, They will be tough to beat during that stretch. They have 6 legit starters. Detroit not so much. On the other hand we're kinda in the same situation. If OC, Swish, PK and Thome wake up, we'll be damn near unbeatable. Almost 1/3 of Cleveland's wins came with Lee starting (they're 17-27 when he doesn't start). With Carmona on the shelf for a month, their rotation is not as good as it looks.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) who would've thought on may 28th we'd be 6-3 against cleveland on the year How about 29-23, 1st in the Central by 2.5 games, 5.5 ahead of Cleveland and 8 ahead of Detroit, with 29 days in sole possession of 1st place.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 28, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Thanks for the info, based on that list, it would seem he has a chance. Another question would be whether Uribe can maintain his B status, which seems possible given the defined criteria. For some reason, players don't make huge jumps or drops on the list, so there must be some sort of averaging going on. So more than likely both of them would be Type "B" free agents at the end of the season with Cabrera still an "A" if he can keep his fielding pct up with calls to the press box.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) Here's my problem with that definition though...I don't believe it. I don't believe that in all cases they only look at 2 years, and even when they do they're screwed up. I'll give you some examples, IIRC ARod was not the highest ranked 3rd baseman in the AL last year by their scheme, despite a dominant season. And Eric Gagne wound up being a type A FA when he left the dodgers despite having pitched like 10 innings in 2 seasons. They probably apply some sort of weights to each of the values. Also, since it is part of the CBA, there probably is something in there about injuries. For A-Rod, I think his defense kills him in terms of Elias rankings.

AL List from October: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al...-complete_N.htm Crede is currently a "B" and would have to surpass about 10 players (2B, SS, and 3B) to become a Type "A". Funny that Uribe is one ahead of him on that list. Cabrera is #9 and would have to drop to #15 to drop down to a Type "B".

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 27, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) why ozzie left buerhle in to face a guy who was 8 for 15 career off mark i dont know I am sure he was trying to stretch Mark another inning due to last night's game.

Seattle is already 12.5 games out and would need a miracle to make the playoffs. I am sure they are open to offers (Lopez).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) chicken/egg. Linebrink pitches with a lead almost always, occasionally in a tie situation. The last 3 games he came in with a tie score, so I wouldn't say occasionally. He also has 12 Holds and 2 wins which means the games were close when he entered on numerous occasions.
-
20-3 when Linebrink pitches.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:12 AM) He sucks against Cleveland. 8.31 ERA this year, 4.32 ERA last year. 4.79 career. All of which are quite far above his career numbers (total is 3.84) Yeah, but he just pitched very solid against them on the 22nd (7IP, 2H, 1ER). I would rather use recent results instead of career numbers.

8-2 since Uribe last played.

Should Konerko be put on the DL to heal his thumb?
RME JICO replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (VAfan @ May 27, 2008 -> 06:55 AM) Given the Trib story below about Konerko's thumb, would we be better off with him on the DL until it heals? Will it heal with rest? http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,6811402.story I would say put him on the 15-day DL if he doesn't improve over the next week. From the following quote, it sounds like he could use some rest. The cortisone shot seemed to help, but you can only have so many of those. Give him a week. -
It's nice to run into a team with a worse offense than us, if that is even possible.

Nice finish Bobby!

QUOTE (tommy @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) I believe Hawk said he actually did get something injected, not sure what. cortisone

Can't we ever just win one of these easy?

QUOTE (knightni @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) Another crushed ball to the warning track. Make that 7 on the night.

The Indians bullpen is brutal. Makes me appreciate what we have.

That's disrespectful. Make 'em pay CQ!

QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) Ramirez!! What a play! Great job by Wise to get into 2nd base. This is where OC needs to get the job done.?

Swish prevents his BA from dropping under .200!

Has Sizemore ever went 0-6 vs us?
