  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Yes. People are just excited about Floyd more so than hating on Masset. We're all curious to see Gavin pitch. Besides for a couple of walks his last outing, Floyd has been lights out for his last couple of starts. It would be nice to see him against major leaguer hitters.
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 05:07 PM) All I have to say is if Gavin is called up, he better have a perminant spot in the rotation for the rest of the season cause I don't want to see him wasting away in the pen on a non-contender. With that said, if Floyd is called up, who gets sent down? Bukvich? Make this Count's last start with the team, trade him, bring up Floyd for the DH and keep the rotation the same order since Count's next start would not be until after the ASB. You could then reset the rotation after the ASB. Wed - Count Thurs - Danks Fri - Garland and Floyd Sat - Buehrle Sun - Vazquez ASB
  3. QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 10:01 AM) Will this be Jose's last game?????????I hope so. Trade Contreras, re-sign Buehrle, and call up Floyd.
  4. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) Now only if we can keep MB...Why wouldn't we?
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) Javy's ERA is down to 3.74, good for 15th in the AL amongst pitchers who have started at least 15 games this season. Garland 5th Buehrle 10th Vazquez 15th That is a very solid 1-3.
  6. Ballgame. Who needs a bullpen? Great job Javy!
  7. 0 walks again for Vazquez. Last 3 starts including tonight: 22IP, 18H, 3ER, 3BB, 25K That K:BB ratio is ridiculous.
  8. Signing a Ro$enhaus 1st round pick to a 5 yr deal this early is great news.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) Kind of surprised no one mentioned this yet... according to this morning's article on the Sox site, this started when MB's camp made an opening offer - 5/75. The Sox wanted 3, moved up to 4, and MB's camp came down on money from that 15 per (to whatever it is now, assumedly 14 per or something similar). Just some data to add to the discussion. 1 year and 1 mill per year is nothing by today's standards. 5/75 is still a fair deal for both sides.
  10. That was a deflating loss, but those late inning comebacks always are. Again it is only one game, and the series win is more important. Now if the Sox do not win the series, it is a different story. You could almost say these same things about any loss. Either the starting pitcher allows too many runs, was left in too long, the bullpen blows the lead, the offense doesn't show up, or a combination of any of those. This was not the turning point in the season by any reach. That happened a long time ago.
  11. Wow, what a deflating loss when Buehrle leaves in the 8th up 6-2.
  12. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) Bukvich better lock his door tonightHopefully he is already sent down.
  13. Logan has been lights out lately. That was a great Strikeout! Keeps Mark on hook for the win.
  14. I wonder if these guys have anything to do with the Sox and their unwillingness to resign Buehrle: Fernandez, 79 wins with Sox, 28 wins after being traded at the age of 26 Alvarez, 67 wins with Sox, 35 wins after being traded at the age of 27 McDowell, 91 wins with Sox, 36 wins after being traded at the age of 28 Baldwin, 79 wins with Sox, 10 wins after being traded at the age of 29 These guys only had marginal success after leaving the Sox even though they all commanded larger contracts from their future teams. Are these guys next: Buehrle, 102 wins with Sox, 28 yrs old Garland, 88 wins with Sox, 27 yrs old
  15. Congrats to Big Bobby!
  16. 6-1 on the road trip 10-18 for the month - fourth-lowest winning percentage in 50 years for June
  17. Garland now tied for 6th in the AL for ERA. Paulie is really dialed in.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) He'd have no kind of trade protection for the rest of the 2007 season. Any NTC he receives in an extension would kick in at the beginning of '08.Which makes this whole NTC sticking point really odd. Technically, KW could still trade MB this season even with a full NTC for the contract extension. So obviously KW was looking to move MB within the next 2.5 years and he didn't want the NTC to block his ability to do that.
  19. On BBTN, Buster Olney reported that the Sox have set Wednesday as the new deadline for the Buehrle deal. Contreras is due to start on Wednesday.
  20. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:50 AM) I think KW has a point but I am speaking as a businessman and a manager. If he gives a full no trade clause to Buerhle then more if not all players resigning or free agents coming would want the same thing. He is saying he will not be able to build teams as he will eventually be handcuffed because everyone wants a no trade clause. You can argue both sides but he does not want to set a precedent for the team. I understand that, because baseball loves precedents and the players union and players work off them all the time. This org has been very paroniod about pitchers for years they gave into a 4th year and quite frankly made a nice offer with a limited no trade clause. They moved from there position, now its time to ship Buehrle out. Companies work from a system and have only little room to make exceptions because it truly effects all other employees of the company. I learned many years ago that liking players means nothing, because quite frankly they could care less about you. I see where KW is coming from to a certain extent, but there are exceptions to every rule or policy. Every player is a different situation, and every player will not ask for a full no-trade clause due to one player getting one. That would also mean every perk one player gets, every other player will ask for, and that is not the case. However, it does seem like KW was trying to get Buehrle to sign a discounted deal only to trade him for more value before the deadline. If that is the case, and it comes out, no one will want to come to the Sox with KW here. I could also see every potential FA not resigning with the Sox for that same reason. This could really get ugly.

I thought this was odd coming out of Tampa Sunday morning: It seems like they are not completely updated on the whole situation, but I must have missed the points that his wife is 8 months pregnant and that he initiated the deal. http://www.sptimes.com/2007/07/01/Rays/Fan...lkout_on_.shtml

I just figured it out. The Sox are going to do something along the lines of the Clemens return at Yankees stadium when he announced his comeback from the Owner's box. Buehrle is going to arise from the beneath the mound to start the game holding a huge contract in his hands before starting the game on Monday. He will also have a $ in front of his number to signify the $56 million he will get. or they leave the tarp on the infield so he can run in from the bullpen and tarp slide to the mound on a huge contract.
  23. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) I think he would take the same extension Mark would hypothetically get. If you lock those two up, and keep Javy, deal Jose, you're looking at a rotation of Buehrle/Garland/Vazquez/Danks/Floyd, which would come in around $40 million. It isn't ridiculous to think it could happen. Once they feel Gio is ready, then you possibly move Javy. The way Floyd has pitched in AAA, that rotation looks pretty solid and would be fairly young. I would just like to have a solid 1-5 stay together for a couple of years so the Sox could have time to develop the younger guys longer.
  24. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) I'm really hoping for a Cleveland-like 2nd half because this first half has been a BEAR...Anything is possible, but the bats really need to heat up. With Detroit's loss, we are 11GB from the WC. Not impossible, especially with all the games we have left vs Detroit. I was just glad to see Danks have a very solid outing after he struggled to even pitch 6 innings over his last few starts.
  25. Great game by Danks! 8IP, 4H, 1ER, 6Ks, and only 1 BB. Gooch coming thru with a huge clutch hit, nice to see. Now we need some more. Sox are now 5-1 on this road trip.
