  1. So Cliff Lee, CC Sabathia, and Kenny Rogers.
  2. White Sox ST Records 2007 - 9-21 > ??? 2006 - 10-19 > 90-72 2005 - 14-18 > 99-63 2004 - 15-13 > 83-79 2003 - 17-13 > 86-76 2002 - 11-21 > 81-81 Here is a older article that is pretty interesting in regards to ST records: http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/bp/1518849.html
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) That's actually pretty interesting. Iguchi: 1066 | .280/.347/.430/.777 | 16.5 HR per season | 112K per season Eckstein: 2201 AB | .278/.347/.353/.700 | 4 HR per season | 50K per season Eckstein's American League numbers are shockingly similar to Iguchi's until you start getting into power numbers. Yes, Eckstein doesn't strike out much and that is a nice quality to have. In the field I'll take Iguchi without question, Eckstein couldn't make a throw from the hole or a quick toss to first on a double play to save his life. To call Eckstein 'terrible' was a poor choice of words, he's not, he's also a below average player in my opinion, not taking intangibles into consideration. In the end I'm taking Iguchi. Then it needs to stop being used as some sort of excuse for why he hasn't produced at the plate since 2000. Just go to 670 The Score's website and listen to the past couple Steve Stone interviews, all he does is talk about how oft injured Erstad has been over the past 6 seasons saying now that he's finally healthy he'll begin to produce. I think Iguchi's numbers will also get better over time (more HR's, less K's). How many of those K's were after he took two strikes only to watch Pods stay at first?
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) We can only hope, I wouldn't count on it though considering the age and major league experience of most of those pitchers as well as the fact that Erstad has found himself on the DL quite often over the past few seasons I'd venture to guess that most of that success came early in the pitcher's career.Yes, that is all we can do at this point. However, consider these numbers: 97, 61, 131, 65, and 137. Those were the games played by Jermaine Dye the five seasons before joining the Sox with people questioning his health. Using the previous five seasons before joining the Sox, Erstad had actually played in 44 more games than Dye over the five year span before joining the team. So it seems that this "always injured" or "on the DL" perceptions are a little misleading.
  5. I don't know if this has been posted before, but I was surprised to see Erstad's success against AL Central pitching for his career: vs Sabathia 7-21, .333BA, .364OBP vs Byrd 4-13, .308BA, .357OBP vs Westbrook 6-14, .429BA, .429OBP vs Rogers 25-80, .313BA, .360OBP vs Bonderman 5-11, .455BA, .500OBP vs Robertson 3-9, .333BA, .400OBP vs Santana 8-29, .276BA, .276OBP vs Silva 9-22, .409BA, .409OBP If he could even put up numbers close to that, the Sox will be in good shape.
  6. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:42 AM) The odds are against 3 out of 4 AL Central teams making it to the playoffs to start off the season, we all acknowledge that, due to the weaker competition one of either Boston or New York will face in the AL East with the rest of their schedule. Even KC can win 72-76 games this season, especially if they get good pitching from 3 of their five starters.Isn't it impossible for 3 teams from one division to make the playoffs?
  7. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) 1) No, actually everyone railed against that article when it was published. The Sox haven't won less than 75 games in 18 seasons. They shouldn't win less than 80 this year with the talent they have on this team. 2) No, everyone still had Detroit and the Sox neck and neck even after the trades, because they somehow expected a miraculous year out of Vazquez and that the fifth starter wouldn't matter. They are now suddenly seeing the reality of the situation. 3) The Garcia and B-Mac moves matter a whole lot, since we have a bad pitcher in the 4 slot now and a total question mark in the fifth slot. 3rd place is still the most likely outcome. 1. Yes, almost everyone has turned into a pessimist. This team has won more games (including playoffs) than any other team in baseball over the last two years. All teams have holes. 2. Yes, are you kidding me? The sky starting falling when those trades went down. Just look back at the tone of this board before and after those moves. 3. There was only one starter move. Danks for Garcia. That "bad pitcher" was here last year. All I was saying was if the top 4 don't perform better than last year, none of these moves will really matter. The starting pitching under-performed horribly last year, and the bullpen was pretty bad as well. If the starting pitchers perform between 05-06 levels, and the bullpen is better, there is no reason to believe they will not win 90 games again.
  8. RME JICO replied to Chisox_10's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It is funny how the tone and outlook of the team changes so fast. This team is mainly intact from last year. 6 changes, and only 2 are considered starters. Backup Catcher - Molina - Alomar/Widger/Stewart CF/OF - Erstad/Anderson - Gload (Erstad replaces Anderson, and Anderson replaces Gload) 5th Starter - Danks - Garcia RHP - Massett - B-Mac RHP - Aardsma - Tracey/Hermie/Politte/Nelson LHP - Sisco - Cotts
  9. NorthSideSox72, If Anderson makes the team but doesn't start, how is that 25%? Shouldn't it be more like 50%? The backup catcher was not that big of a deal in the overall picture since it was basically a non-factor last year. The bigger issue was a decent hitter who could hit LHP. We lost that and it was not addressed. Perez could have filled that need and subbed in for Thome or in LF against LHP. That would have taken away some of the impact of the Hall injury. Everything is a personal opinion, but none of us have the true reasons on why things are being done. On the outside looking in, Anderson should be the starting CF with Logan in the pen, but for some reason that did not happen. All we can do is speculate.
  10. Baseball Prospectus predicts 72 wins and everyone becomes a pessimist. Everyone had this team neck and neck with Detroit for the Division title, then the Sox trade Garcia and B-Mac and they all of a sudden drop to 3rd, then Hall gets hurt and they are now in 4th. This season will be dependent on how well the rotation performs (especially the big 4).
  11. An official offer from the Redskins. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...mully28.article The deal he turned down last year was for 6 years at $5.5 million a year with an estimated $15 million in guaranteed money.
  12. http://www.ticketmaster.com/artist/805913 code: friday limit: two add convenience charge of $0.75 $0 charge to pick up tickets at will call, or add $2.50 for e-mailed tickets Wednesday, March 28 07:30 PM vs. Anaheim Ducks Friday, March 30 07:30 PM vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
  13. I say it will be Aardsma and Logan. Floyd and Sisco need some work in AAA.
  14. At least he made the roster. Too bad about Perez and Terrero. With Hall injured and no Perez, the Sox are going to struggle against LHP again.
  15. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) I knew I should have done it in 15% increments. That would be weird ending at 105%.
  16. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Angelo offered up the chance to go to free agency next year. They turned it down. He's going to make a guaranteed $7.2 million this year if he signs. Can he get injured? Sure he can. Can he have a down year? Sure he can. But he can also have another year like last or even better, possibly get back to the Super Bowl and maybe even win it. HOw will THAT affect his next contract that the Bears definitely won't match. Look, I'm just saying that the #6 pick isn't enough. I wouldn't draft a safety that high, I don't think there are any impact LB that deserve to go that high and the impact players will go 1-5, like Thomas, Brown or Johnson. I'm saying the #6 and maybe a third-rounder would be good. The Bears already got kinda screwed on draft picks with the Thomas Jones trade. The Bears have the leverage. They should get more and make the 'Skins overpay if they really want him. I completely understand where you are coming from, because swapping picks never feels like the same thing as just acquiring extra picks. You have to believe there will be teams willing to move up to get guys like Quinn if they are still on the board. The Bears could pick up a mid round pick, draft someone like Poz or Olsen, then use the extra picks on OL, DL, and S.
  17. The best move would be to consolidate all the sites into something like Chicagosportstalk.com or whatever, and then have the respective teams sub-forums. That way there is one registration, and any general discussions would be common among the various sites instead of separate. The mods do an awesome job right now, so I don't think there would be too many issues if that ever happened. Right now there seems like there is a disconnect, because people will post about the Bears on Soxtalk, even though they have an account on Talkbears? That doesn't make much sense.
  18. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) Of course, it's a win-win situation for you, Drew. Either way, your gettin' paid. Idiot.Thats funny because he always uses that quote.
  19. More from ESPN.com: QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) The only way I would make that trade is if the 'skins added in either a second, first day pick or a conditional 1st next year (if they can do that in the NFL). Otherwise, let him sit. Let him come back for 6 games...and then deactivate him. If he walks, he walks, but he's not going to get the huge contract he wants if he sits the year. Shoot, if you de-activate him for the final six games, you can say it's for his own protection. We don't want him to get hurt since he missed all of training camp and the first 10 weeks. Hold firm, Bears...hold firm. This is a business decision and not some sort of agenda. The Bears have an opportunity to get something equivalent to the #16 pick if this trade goes thru. They can pick up an impact player using the pick, or parlay it into multiple first day picks to add depth and fill needs. It would be ridiculous for them to just keep him for one year just to get nothing for him a year from now. This move would also free up 7 million on the payroll for other key re-signings and other FA aquisitions.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 09:17 AM) That's pretty much what I expected to happen. The guy only cares about money, and this is the way to maximize his leverage. I really hope the Redskins deal happens, and we get this guy out of here. The Skins deal would be huge. The Bears could use that pick or trade down and pick up extra first day picks. I have zero respect for players like Briggs.
  21. You can't go wrong for $15. The quality is decent and it doesn't require a ton of bandwidth (20K/sec). I haven't noticed any issues with it this spring. (You also get 3 months of SI mag for free, if you care).
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) The Rangers have way overrated him. Same as SoxTalk did. It looks like a classic example of perspectives. The Rangers undervalued Danks and Massett while overvaluing BMac. That is why this trade came out of nowhere. The Rangers approached KW with an offer that was off the charts in terms of valuation. The crazy thing is the Sox will have their 5th starter and one reliever on the opening day roster by only giving up BMac. This deal almost becomes a head shaker if you are looking at it from a Texas point of view. Not only about the actual personnel, but even other things like BMac having more service time, etc.

I can't recall any major move happening when it hit the media first. This is just speculation. If ARod is does become a FA, I expect him to command even more money than he is getting right now. Someone will pay him, but it won't be the Sox. Especially when dealing with Boras. Crede will be replaced by Fields and Uribe will more than likley be resigned unless he falters again in 2007.

Everyone should go back and read the archives from ST 2005. They are very similar in nature to this ST. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showforum=36 I hope the outcome of the season is similar as well.

QUOTE(Stocking @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 04:34 AM) bump. i used a friends laptop and audio worked fine. When i first purchased the package it was working, i may have messed with some settings. any help would be appreciated. It just sounds like the volume is turned down. Go to your volume control and ensure the master volume and wave volume are not muted or completely off. Also, check the same thing on the player itself, there is a little mute button there. If it still does not work, make sure you have sound when playing something else thru Windows Media Player. Get to that point and let me know. Some laptops also have a function that is independent to Windows sound; by using "FN" and another key you can disable or adjust the volume. On my laptop, the keys used are PGUP, PGDN, and END. They are not all made like this, but there are some out there. Hope that helps.
