QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) I agree. but others DO rely on that to formulate an opinion. The Cardinal fans Im not calling dumb, but they felt he might be "embarrassing" to the SOX. Because they READ that. Is RedWhite in Chicago now or on east coast?? Really... ? There are folks in this day and age that have an opinion because they are told to have that opinion? Well then... I'm extremely fortunate that I hang with a crowd that can read or hear something, process it, then decide if it's something to them or not.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) How rude! And embarassing! Just kidding. Acutally it is. It's rude to suggest that folks can't think for themselves, and it's embarrassing for those that suggest it. IMO, of course. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) No one's telling me what to think. I hate Jay Mariotti just as much as the next guy, but its an embarrassing and wrong thing to say when you're in the position Ozzie Guillen is in. You'd think he'd mature a little bit with age, and not have the same vocabulary that I and other teenagers have. R&W, I'm not at all directing my comments to you at all. I'm moreso targeting the Reynolds Wrap wearing folk..

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) hence the 500 and somthing posts on the subject, the numerous emails Mariotti is getting, the heated debates on all the radio talk shows, and the ESPN cover stories. Despite what you might believe, most folks don't need anyone else to tell them what is rude and embarrassing. Almost everyone I know has a mind of their own and a sense of what is offending to them. Suggesting that they need a newspaper or someone on television to tell them is offensive to them, IMO. Par for the course... :rolly
-
Ok.. let me get this straight - no pun intended... Ozzie says something that many construe as rude and embarrassing... and it's only because the newspapers say it's rude and embarrassing that folks are now saying it's rude and embarrassing...? Are there people out there really this blind and misguided that they need to be told what to think is rude and embarrassing...?

Soprano's Final Episodes in Trouble? With the fates of Silvio and Paulie up in the air after the two mobsters decided to go to the mattresses with HBO, it's fallen to Tony to mediate a truce. Things are down to the wire in Sopranos land as production on the final episodes is set to kick off in two weeks and two key players, Steven Van Zandt and Tony Sirico, remain locked in a protracted salary dispute with their bosses at the cable network. The situation is so tense that James Gandolfini himself is calling for a sitdown with his consigliere and capo, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The meeting will apparently take place at Gandolfini's house, as opposed to say the Bada Bing! or Satriale's. Gandolfini is hoping to save the swan-song season--and keep his goombahs from engaging in the same kind of knock-down, drag-out, lawsuit-trading brawl that characterized his own salary stand-off three years ago. Van Zandt, who plays Tony's right-hand man Silvio Dante, and Sirico, Tony's well coiffed enforcer Paulie "Walnuts" Gualtieri, are said to be asking HBO for $200,000 apiece each of the remaining eight episodes, a figure they refuse to budge on and one which is, according to various reports, more than double their current salary. Last week, the New York Post reported that Van Zandt and Sirico's salaries fell at $80,000 and $85,000, respectively, last season. The newspaper claimed HBO was unwilling to part with more than $90,000 each, a considerable discrepancy by anyone's standards. "HBO has made generous offers to the cast, and, as always, we're confident that we will resolve all of these matters amicably," a network spokesman said, declining to discuss specific numbers. In any case, it was an offer they could--and did--refuse. The money squabbles began last summer, when HBO announced it was splitting the Sopranos' final 20 episodes into two shorter seasons, the just concluded 12-show run and an eight-episode finale to air next January. Immediately, several of the show's stars began renegotiating their deals, stating they were now filming two separate seasons. Gandolfini, Edie Falco (Carmela), Michael Imperioli (Christopher ) and Vincent Curatola (John "Johnny Sack" Sacramoni) all managed to complete deals, with series don Gandolfini reportedly increasing his payday to $1 million an episode. But not all the actors fared so well. While Van Zandt and Sirico have made the biggest headlines, Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi), Jamie-Lynn Sigler (Meadow), Robert Iler (Tony Jr.), Steven Schirripa (Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri) and John Ventimiglia (Artie Bucco) are also currently without contracts. According to the Post, Sigler and Iler each earned $85,000 per episode last season, though it's unknown what their new asking price is. HBO, meanwhile, is flush after scoring a $195 million deal to sell the series' rerun rights to A&E and shouldn't have any trouble coming up with the cash to keep the key cast together for the network's anchor show. But the new contracts need to get inked fast--the table read for the first of the final episodes is set to take place July 5. Otherwise we won't have to wait until next winter to see who survives the final round of whackings

St. Louis Conspiracy Theory...Sox knew what pitches were coming
Steff replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) Isn't it amazing how that works? When your pitchers f***ing suck, it looks like the other team knows what is coming, but when the pitcher throws the ball great, the hitters look clueless. Such groundbreaking info from the Cards, their fans, and the sportswriters in St. Louis :rolly Have you had your blood pressure checked lately...? -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) If this was true, and they figured it out after the 5th inning of game one, why the hell did we score 13 on them in game two? Are they that damn stupid? ""Let's put it this way," one Cardinals source said Thursday night. "They looked like they knew what was coming the first two nights. They looked like they had no idea tonight. " -

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 08:49 AM) Let's recap: I wish Nancy was at more games. She would if she could, but she can't. The game isn't the same without her. Yep, seems pretty clear to me. He's referring to you assuming he's not a nancy fan because he had a good time the previous nights. He was saying the same thing I was, just differently. Your assumption that he wasn't a fan is what made no sense. -

http://www.nbc5.com/news/9411242/detail.ht...ss=chi&psp=news CHICAGO -- The Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago was locked down for hours on Thursday while U.S. marshals searched for a man trying to flee custody. The lockdown was lifted around 2 p.m., but the man remains at large. Officials reopened the building because they said they finished searching the courthouse, and believe the man may have gotten out of the building. Marshals said the man, Larnell Rogers, was not a violent offender and had not been in custody before the incident. Rogers, 38, escaped after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest, U.S. Marshal Kim Widup said. Rogers, who was wearing blue jeans and a green shirt, was scheduled to appear in court for a status hearing on charges that he lied to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He arrived at court after his scheduled hearing, learned of the warrant and fled, officials said. "Once he was in the building, somebody said 'Hey, they want to see you. You're wanted now,' and then he decided to run away within the building," Widup said. People inside the building reported that a loudspeaker announcement called for Rogers to go to a hallway and lay down on the floor, so that authorities could take him into custody. Authorities said a floor-by-floor search was conducted. "Out of an abundance of caution, we put an overhead message to employees of the building to shut their doors while we're conducting the search," Widup said. According to court documents, a Larnell Rogers was indicted along with two others in March for allegedly lying to federal agents about the 2004 shooting death of an ATF informant. The indictment alleges that co-defendant Jesse Williams lied to federal agents to get work as an ATF informant. Williams promised Rogers he would pay him to falsely impersonate someone who was involved in the shooting. Rogers has pleaded not guilty. Telephone messages left with attorneys for Rogers and Williams were not immediately returned. Frank Jops, the owner of Tri-Taylor Realty Management on the city's West Side, said Rogers would occasionally do odd jobs for him. Rogers listed the management company on a financial affidavit filed in the case. "I thought he was homeless," Jops said. "He would come around and ask every once in while if he could pick up garbage for a couple bucks." The 28-story glass and steel structure Dirksen building is at the south end of Chicago's downtown Loop. U.S. marshals guard the building's lobby, which has metal detectors. In 1992, a former police officer on trial for bank robbery slipped free of handcuffs in the courthouse's garage, grabbed a gun from a guard and killed two other guards before fatally shooting himself. Jeffrey Erickson, who was known as the "bearded bandit," was being taken from the courthouse after his trial when he got out of his handcuffs as he was being led through the basement from the courthouse to the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Erickson wrestled a revolver away from a deputy U.S. marshal, then shot and killed another deputy marshal. A building security guard then shot Erickson in the back as he fled. Erickson shot and killed the guard, then raced halfway up a ramp before he put the gun to his chin and killed himself. A prisoner also escaped from the Dirksen building on June 8, 2001 after he slipped out of his handcuffs and exited a prisoner processing area after he was left unattended. Authorities caught Reginald Potts about two weeks later on Chicago's South Side.

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) ?? not many Nancy fans here? I wasn't expecting this reaction. I thought I was one of the many Nancy fans who was quite upset when they found out she won't be appearing at many games this year. No, no, no.. I think everyone is a Nancy fan. Just not to the point that it makes us have a bad time at the game. -
