Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle crash

Apparently Ben has titanium "plates" attached to his jaw versus it having to be wired shut... Up, walking around, and eating soft food. Sounds good to me. -
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/wireStory?id=2069240 OXNARD, Calif. Jun 13, 2006 (AP)— Two police officers patrolling the beach in an SUV on Monday ran over and killed a sunbather, authorities said. The officers did not immediately realize they ran over the woman and continued driving, police Cmdr. Tom Chronister said in a statement. The officers, who were not immediately identified, had stopped on a small berm of sand to watch a swimmer whom they believed to be in distress. When they saw the swimmer was fine, they drove over the berm and apparently over the woman's head, authorities said. A witness called the Oxnard Fire Department to report the woman was bleeding on the beach just south of the Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Resort. The woman, Cindy Conolly, 49, of Sioux City, Iowa, was in town for her son's wedding, said Mike Feiler, senior deputy medical examiner in the Ventura County coroner's office. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday. The officers have been placed on paid leave pending an investigation. Oxnard is located about 55 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. How terrible. I imagine the cop who ran her over is pretty messed up as well her family devistated. Oh gosh.. it's happened before. http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/mysticriver/11.html http://www.local6.com/news/2573348/detail.html SUV Backs Over Sunbather In Volusia Sand May Have Saved Woman's Life POSTED: 2:23 p.m. EDT October 22, 2003 UPDATED: 5:57 p.m. EDT October 23, 2003 A 53-year-old woman was crushed Wednesday when a sport utility vehicle backed over her as she slept on a beach chair at a Volusia County, Fla., beach, according to Local 6 News. Lifeguards said Gelenda Willits was run over and then pinned under the SUV for more than 20 minutes on a portion of Ormond Beach, near the Granada ramp. "I heard a thump and heard a woman scream," Jerri Decosta said. "When I looked over, I saw the back of the car jump in the air and come back down and I heard the woman scream. Police said the driver of the vehicle was apparently looking for a parking spot when she ran over the woman. The bottom of the SUV came to rest on her torso, Local 6 News reporter Tarik Minor reported. Lifeguards and passerby used their hands to dig the woman from under the vehicle. "We shoveled by hand to pull the sand out from underneath her and then moved her out a little bit," witness Bob Decosta said. Beach patrol spokesman Kevin Sweat said the soft sand may have saved the woman's life because it allowed the chair to give a little under the 5,000-pound vehicle. Willits was removed from under the vehicle and transported to Halifax Medical Center. She is in serious condition, Local 6 News reported. The name of the driver has not been released. Local 6 News reported that the woman driving the SUV will be charged. In February, a 27-year-old French woman was killed and her sister badly injured when they were run over by a police vehicle looking for a mugger on Miami's South Beach. The officer will not be charged, but the family of Stephanie Tunc has sued the city for negligence. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/06/14/home.depot.drugs/index.html Drug caches found in Home Depot vanities From Stacey Francisco CNN Wednesday, June 14, 2006; Posted: 4:58 p.m. EDT (20:58 GMT) Home Depot Incorporated Massachusetts Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) or Create Your Own Manage alerts | What Is This? (CNN) -- Large quantities of drugs were found inside merchandise from at least two Home Depot stores in Massachusetts, and authorities are investigating, police said Wednesday. A contractor late last week discovered two 50-pound "bricks" of marijuana wrapped in plastic bags inside a bathroom vanity he had purchased at a Home Depot store in Tewksbury, said Chief of Detectives Lt. Dennis Peterson. The estimated street value of the marijuana is around $145,000, Peterson said. (Watch as do-it-yourself goes to pot -- 1:30) Similar incidents have occurred in other parts of the state. A plumber purchased a vanity in western Massachusetts on Monday in which he later found 3 kilograms of cocaine and around 40 pounds of marijuana, with a total estimated street value of $250,000, according to the Southwick Police Department. Southwick Police Lt. David A. Ricardi said the item was purchased at "a local hardware store" but would not confirm it came from The Home Depot. According to Peterson, a third individual discovered large quantities of illegal drugs inside Home Depot merchandise. Peterson would not provide the details of that incident but said it was part of the overall investigation and that Tewksbury police were working with their Southwick counterparts and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Tewksbury police and DEA officials conducted a search Tuesday of about 12 Home Depot stores statewide and found other bathroom vanities that contained drugs, Peterson said. He would not elaborate on how many drug caches were discovered in the search. In each incident being investigated by Tewksbury Police, all of the merchandise boxes originated from a Texas location and were distributed through one Massachusetts warehouse, Peterson said. "I'm sure the packages were being shipped to the distribution center and someone was supposed to intercept them," Peterson said. "So that person [who was supposed to intercept the packages] either wasn't on duty that day or the packages were marked wrong." The Southwick and Tewksbury Police Departments both said The Home Depot was cooperating fully with their investigations, and no one employed by the company is a suspect at this time. Both departments also said none of the customers who purchased the vanities that contained drugs are suspects. In a written statement, The Home Depot said, "The company is cooperating with authorities as they investigate this matter, and we will support law enforcement in any way possible to help bring those responsible to justice."

http://www.nypost.com/gossip/pagesix/the_h...ad_pagesix_.htm June 14, 2006 -- PARIS Hilton is so upset that Lindsay Lohan has been seeing her ex, Greek playboy Stavros Niarchos, she screamed insults at Lohan at Butter on Monday night. Witnesses report Hilton went up to Lohan and shouted, "I can't believe you and Stavros! You are ridiculous!" After taking more insults and curses, Lohan said, "That's how you say hello? I don't need to respond to you." Lohan promptly left. A rep for Lohan said, "Correct. Paris tried to pick a fight with her and started screaming at her, but Lindsay took the high road." After Lohan left, Hilton did a striptease for N.Y. Knick David Lee, Eli Manning and a bunch of other N.Y. Giants. OK... Lindsay, you are a good looking chick (now that you cut the blow and started eating again) but get a better diet honey. You do not need to be munching on Paris Hilton's sloppy seconds. And Paris... Good grief.. can you possibly be any more nasty..?Ick.

QUOTE(minors @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:44 AM) A CHILD IS A CHILD there it doesnt matter to me how far along it is. So that is why I abstain. If the women is raped yes it is still murder and family same goes for a family member and anytime the mothers life in jeopardy then it isn't It becomes a life saving procedure. minors, I get your point. But I do hope you understand that there are many situations - many not even known - where a woman may be confronted with interrupting her pregnancy for reasons other than a risk to either life. It's not cut and dry and I hope that if you are even in such a situation you have an open mind.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 07:06 AM) It won't even be close. The Sox are pretty much impossible to pass the 1991 mark of over 2.9 million people in this season. Assured, too.

No problemo. I'm usually not here at night and was just wondering.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) can you think of a time where a sox pitcher hit the opposing team twice and both teams got warned? I can't. Even when I go way back. We always get f***ed. I agree, yet I don't want to see them throw at someone intentionally. I guess I wish just once the Sox could get their cake and eat it, like so many other teams seem to get to do against us.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) I'm not 100% sure of the adoption process, but how exactly to parents get to decide what type of child they want and how long does it take to get one? I can't imagine there's much demand for an underweight crack baby. Would you as a republican be in favor of allowing gay couples to adopt a child? There's one for conservatives to ponder for awhile; Gay couples adopting abortion In a nut shell if you want something specific, you place an "order".. and you wait, and wait, and wait - which comes after you have been raked over the coals by a few agencies, your life is investigated all the way back to that 0.05 bubble gum you stole, and all your friends, family, and co-workers have been questioned. It took friends of ours 3 years to get a white girl, and after that 11 weeks to get an african american boy. And there is a poster here that waited quite a while as well. And then once you find what you want, that doesn't mean anything because the birth mother or father can back out of the "deal" for up to (iirc - please don't hold me to this) 48 hours. It's an insane process. I would be in favor of a child being adopted by ANYONE that can give them a good home - gay or straight regardless of their political affiliation or religious beliefs. There are just too many children out there who need homes.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/06/14/ludwig.plea.ap/index.html LANCASTER, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A young man accused of killing his 14-year-old girlfriend's parents and running off with her pleaded guilty Wednesday to murder in a deal that spared him from the death penalty. David G. Ludwig, 19, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for shooting Michael and Cathryn Borden inside their Lititz, Pennsylvania, home in November after they demanded he break off his relationship with their daughter, Kara. Ludwig and Kara had tried to keep their relationship secret from her parents, who were displeased with their age difference. Investigators said the Bordens confronted Ludwig after discovering he and Kara had been out all night. After the talk, Ludwig used his father's pistol to shoot the Bordens in the head, and Kara then climbed into his car and they set out to start a new life together, authorities said. Investigators concluded that Kara joined Ludwig voluntarily but played no role in the shootings. She was not charged with a crime. More at link.

http://images1.americanprogress.org/il80we...ten.320.240.mov President Bush To Legally Blind Reporter: ‘Are You Going to Ask That Question with Shades On?’ » At a press conference this morning, President Bush needled Los Angeles Times reporter Peter Wallsten after he stood up to ask a question wearing sunglasses. “Are you going to ask that question with shades on?” Bush said, telling Wallsten, “I’m interested in the shade look, seriously.” But as Wonkette first noted, and which ThinkProgress subsquently confirmed, Wallsten is legally blind. Wallsten tells us he has a rare genetic disorder called Stargardt’s Disease. The disease is a form of macular degeneration that can be slowed “by wearing UV-protective sunglasses and avoiding exposure to bright light.” Wallsten says he holds no ill will towards President Bush. “I never advertise it to him. I’ve never told him.” http://thinkprogress.org/
