http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/17/imm...n.ap/index.html Senate endorses citizenship plan, calls for border fence Senators also votes to exclude convicts from immigration plan Wednesday, May 17, 2006; Posted: 3:47 p.m. EDT (19:47 GMT) WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate endorsed a chance at citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants Wednesday but also voted to build 370 miles of triple-layered fencing along the Mexican border in increasingly emotional debate over election-year immigration legislation. Taken together, the votes gave fresh momentum to legislation that closely follows President Bush's call for a major overhaul of the nation's troubled immigration system. The vote was 66-33 against a proposal that would have removed provisions giving an eventual chance at citizenship to illegal immigrants who have been in the country more than two years. A few minutes earlier, the Senate had voted 83-16 in favor of construction of the fence and 500 miles of vehicle barriers, the first significant victory in two days for conservatives seeking to place their stamp on the measure.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 17, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) He's a juicer, a mean person, and a racist. The only reason he wants 715 is b/c Ruth is white, and he doesn't like white people. I bet that if Aaron was at 714 and Ruth was at 755, you'd see Bonds saying he wants to play in 2007 and go after Ruth Shut up.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) I have to agree. I really don't think there would have been some huge effort to tear down Bush on this one. It would have been one of those rare situations where politics would likely have abstained. Todd Beamer... "Honey.. we HAVE to take the plane down...... let's roll" Case closed.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 17, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) As logical as that sounds, the press still would have been all over him. The Dems would be screaming for an investigation. They are always sniffing for blood with Bush. Of course there would have been an investigation, and Bush would have been picked apart. A release of the facts would have proved that there was no other choice. Hard to argue with the fact that the passsengers on the plane had the mindset of taking the plane down. Hell.. they are considered hero's because they (supposedly :rolly ) did just that. Dem's would have been ripped worse for trying to vilify the same exact thing those in the situation were leading.
-
2K+ (guessing on the #) people had already died, three major buildings had been hit, and there were more than a dozen calls confirming the plane was hijacked... there would have been no negative ramifications had that plane needed to be shot down, IMO. Obviously - from the actions of those on the place - they knew that was the only choice.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ May 17, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) I remember reading a story about Urbina and Ozzie. It was about Ozzie's best friend who was murdered, and Ozzie went to the prison to speak with the man who killed his best friend. I don't remember the details, and if someone has the url, please post it. However, I do remember a moment when Oz and Urbina spoke, but I dont remember if it was good. Oz was visiting Uggie and saw the man who killed his childhood friend. Uggie offered to have him taken care of and Oz declined - siting karma, iirc. Pretty sure it was in the Playboy article as well as on the HBO special. They have been friends for a long time so I would guess their visits are good.

QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) I did a search on 8 seats together, best available. They gave me 8 seats in their BEST section all in the same row. Pretty sad! Just like us a few short years ago...

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 15, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) .....about the film, or are you saying you went into it in a bad mood? Well, I was in a bad mood to start for other reasons, but the movie added to it. Pissed me off, again, that it happened.

QUOTE(minors @ May 15, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) This terrible act occured about 60 miles from where I live, I have been through McKenzie more times than I can count. Lucky for him he did it in somewhere other than Louisiana where he would been facing the death penalty which might not be a bad thing How about "too bad" and "would not be a bad thing"?

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ May 15, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) The night it happened ESPN must have said 10 times about the padding having been ordered but not installed. I don't think AJ was letting any cats out of any bags. They were already out. I believe it was closer to 20 times. And they said it had just arrived and was to be installed on their next road trip. A bit different then "Aaron said it was sitting around the park..." IMO, implying it had been there for a while.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 15, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Busy day at work, huh? I've pretty much stopped working the past 2 weeks.

The mom just brought a fish to the nest. Killed it. And is feeding it to them.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 15, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) I heard that the padding just arrived, and they were waiting for the Phillies road trip before putting it up. Bad timing. That's what I heard also.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 15, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) From what AJ was saying, he certainly could have too. He asked them to order it when they got there from spring training, so yes he could have thrown them under the bus. That professionalism is why he's so popular. I hope AJ keeps his yap shut about things that are none of his business...

Love how they tried to slip him up and blame the Phillies for him getting injured - by not putting up padding sooner. Aaron "it's part of the game..." Total class.
