  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) The contract Cleveland offered was a joke. It was way less money, and less years because they had no intention of resigning him. The situation mirrored the Sox with Robin Ventura very well. The Sox didn't even make Robin a formal offer.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) And the all praise Frank opinions aren't played out? Meh, Big Frank is just a deadhorse for Sox fans as far as I am concerned. Perhaps for YOU as a Sox fan. What is the problem...? You see a thread praising him, you don't have anything to add, so don't. EVERY thread about Frank ends up like this. :headshake QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) Uhhhhhhh....ok Dad. No need to be a complete dick about it. I've rarely posted on the subject...but whatever you say...you DA MAN! I don't think he's being a dick. There really is no way to say "hey... we get it, you don't like him, stfu". I do agree that it would be nice to have just one thread without the bulls***.
  3. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) I only hope you stayed your court-ordered 500 feet away. Hot Cotts wasn't there..
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) I was there but had seats in another area. I saw a couple guys in the patio area but unfortunately, I wouldn't know you guys by looking at you. Southsider forgot the name tags again...
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) I not arguing or debating, just throwing out what I know and what I think. I haven't found any of the responses to my posts arguing them or debating them either. ^
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) KW has his own box on the other side of the real small one. There's probably a different dynamic in each relationship with JR, and my theory could be completely wrong, but JR has had both of their backs probably more than any other player, except for maybe Ozzie. You may be right about why KW is GM, but he probably wouldn't have ever been in position to be hired if JR hadn't hired him right away when his playing career was over. Does anyone remember back in the early 90's when KW was a studio analyst a few games? I agree definitely a different dynamic. I don't recall Kenny's broadcasting days. QUOTE(JimH @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) No one is arguing, and yes it's clear that Reinsdorf cares deeply for Frank Thomas and KW. KW has a house just a stones throw away from JR's in Paradise Valley (Phoenix area). A looooong throw over Randy's house..
  7. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) So, what is the point of this argument? It appears that Jerry is quite fond of both of them. Kenny currently has his place in the organization, and Frank will probably have his one day. Who the hell is arguing?
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) 1982 KW became JR's personal responsibility when the White Sox drafted him. I think he was a 3rd round pick. JR went out to Oakland to meet with his father which is pretty unusual for a 3rd round pick. He assured his father he would take care of him. When KW was done playing, JR had a job waiting for him, and has taken care of him since. KW obviously worked his way to where he is, but I really doubt he would be a GM if JR never flew out to Oakland. IMO, Kenny is GM cause there was a locked door for a minority and Jerry opened it. FWIW, Ken's kids are never in Jerry's box. Franks have been up there several times this year already.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) I think its a sibling rivalry sort of thing. KW was the original JR boy. JR flying out to meet his father, telling his father he would take care of him. Frank comes along, JR gets close with Frank, becomes a sort of second father to Frank, until Frank's father dies, then becomes Frank's father-like figure. They both are probably wrong in their relationship or lack of relationship. Since I'm not involved, in a sick way I find humor in it, although the worst thing that ever came out was KW talking about the loan JR gave Frank. Popping that off was the most classless move anyone in the White Sox organization has made in a long, long time IMO. Kenny was the original JR boy...? Jerry and Frank have been super close since Frank came to the Sox. Franks kids call Jerry papa. That was long before Kenny was around.
  10. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Are you insinuating that they are, like, friends? They sure all looked like friends yucking it up at a local watering hole on Division after the game last night..
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:58 AM) I hope someone saved the broadcast of it. Dempster looks like an ass. I don't need to hear him to know he's an ass... but I don't think he was the pot stirrer on this one.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) The Paco Martin of the 2000's No way... I was talking about Paco last night also..
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Ya, the strike zone was terrible. Franks first home run was because Garland was getting absolutely hosed on the zone and had to throw Big Frank a get me over (to his credit, Frank hit it over the fence). Or... because he got a gooey chocolate chip cookie.. :rolly
  14. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) You really think so? KW, the guy who put together the team that brought the title? I'm not saying I know either way, but I'm not sure about that. You can bank on it. Jerry has been a father to Frank since his own passed away. The title is nice, but blood is thicker than water - and while they aren't blood related I don't think they could be any closer if the were.
  15. QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:29 AM) Sorry...while I've always appreciated Frank's contributions to the White Sox...the guy just never "won me over" like players such as Dick Allen, Fisk, and even such as guys like AJ and Crede have right now. Not sure what it is...I don't want to come out and say it's his seemingly, "I'm a f***in selfish baby attitude"...because I don't even know him personally. All anybody really knows is what they've read of him in the newspapers and heard on tv...and I've interpreted much of it as being a selfish baby. Thought there was some interesting things in this little piece: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines A few things in here I found amusing...but the biggest was: I could actually here KW say, "Pffffffffffft...fat f***in chance..." all the way out here in Phoenix. I also like how Frank makes reference of himself growing up. BOUT f***IN TIME FRANK...you're only gonna be 38 sometime this year! So forgive me if I'm not all warm and fuzzy about Frank... thanks for your contributions to the Chicago White Sox Frank...but honestly I don't miss you in the least bit. If I was at the game...*golf claps* is the best you woulda got outta me. KW can "pfffttt.. fat chance" all he wants. Kenny eats s*** if the choice is between him and Frank. Jerry will have Frank's back always. Dick Allen won you over...? That says a lot.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) I come from Wheaton, so we take the Ike all the way down, get off at Ashland, take Cermak to Halsted, and we turn left on 33rd, park in lot C... ^^^ DO NOT take the Stevenson. They have closed the ramp to the Dan Ryan and it's a mess.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) It was really you the convinced me that Willie Harris >= MVP Pfftt... that was all you and Jim and I will never, ever forgive you for it.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) I totally understand and to each his own. I am sure If I were at the game I'd do the same (despite saying I wouldn't, but Steff pressure is a b****). I did give Frank a pretty good cheer when I was in Anaheim and the A's played the Angels. And I hope he doesn't get booed...that I know. It would be a sad day in Chicago if that were to happen. And I'm glad a lot of fans will get teary eyed and really give him a great ovation (even though I'd have given just a few claps at the most). I know whenever I see Rowand play next and I'm at the stadium (same goes for Carl and all the guys that were a part of the 05 team, I'll make sure to give them a damn good ovation). Oh and next weeks show will be about the minor leagues a bit more so than the prior shows (special guest host to join us...maybe even two special guest hosts).
  19. There were scalpers at Jimbo's over the weekend, and don't forget about the game day releases which should start about 6:30ish.
  20. QUOTE(Dan @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) This video has been removed due to terms of use violation. This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner Major League Baseball because its content was used without permission I'm shocked it was up as long as it was.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I'm not going to get myself worked up about that topic, so I'm going to skip out on this week's episode. Though it is more fuel for the "jason is crazy" movement.
  22. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) Ok, I will take your word for it. I caught the last 3 innings in a sports bar in Manhattan and admittedly was a little buzzed If you have the opportunity to, try to catch it again. I rewound the TiVo at least 10 times. He even had a look of "oh s***... I probably could have stretched a bit more for that one..."
  23. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) Well, I thought that Paul at least reached out with his glove. I thought that Uribe's off-line throw was the bigger issue. You might want to watch it again before marrying that stance. He didn't move.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) Probably in your best interest to keep the lips zipped tonight. I'm already in a pissy mood....
