  1. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) Why do you think he's booed at Yankee Stadium Because its New York... QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) and the Rangers were horrible with the guy?? Because baseball is a team game, and the entire team sucked outside of A-Rod? (which is generalizing, I dont remember who else they had at that time really)
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) This isn't meant for you Rock, but the next one to offer up Contreras or Vazquez in a trade to the Yankees is going to make me punch someone.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) I dont want to put words in the mouth of Felix, but im pretty sure he was saying horrible seasons IN the media.... Yes, thats what I meant. I figured that my point would get across, but I guess not
  4. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) Has any player brought in that much Major League talent before (4 solid players)? It's going to be extremely hard for the Yanks to get 3 solid major leaguers let alone 4 for Arod. No team is going to shed themselves that badly. At best, I could see a SP, 3B, and RP for Arod. Definitely not 2 SP. This is a buy low situation. I'd like to see the Sox jump all over it. Lets put it this way. The Rangers got Alfonso Soriano and Joaquin Arias from the Yankees for him, and still had to pay a boatload of money. This was when A-Rod was in his prime, and coming off some of his best seasons while playing spectacular defense at shortstop. Now, A-Rod is 30+, and is coming off a couple of horrible seasons with the media while playing poor defense at third. If they get more quality major leaguers now than they gave up then, it just doesn't make sense to me. That being said, this is a pretty bad comparison since they are different situations and timing
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) 10/7/06.....the day this site became ARodtalk.com It'll be a fun offseason
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) Why would anybody in their right mind want A-Rod. He defines LOSING. He makes way too much money. There is jealousy in the clubhouse and his teams cannot get it done. Pass on that guy please. Timo Perez defines winning. Lets sign him, and start him in LF over Pods!!!!!!1 QUOTE(SEALgep @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) ARod would mash at the Cell... Hypothetical lineup (dream a little dream.) Coco Crisp Gooch Dye Thome PK Arod AJ Crede Anderson/Sweeney Contreras Buerhle Garland McCarthy Vasquez Garcia/Fields/and midlevel pitching spec for ARod We just take Crisp when the Red Sox aren't looking. Maybe we could live with Pierre with the rest of the lineup as so... This is one of the funnier posts in this thread, mostly because it has ARod batting 6th, even though he's a better hitter than every other person in that lineup.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) INHFTOCS I have no idea what that stands for (it's not his fault that our ____ sucked?)
  8. QUOTE(bulokis @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) The last couple of games, Vaz has struck out a ton of but still ended up on the losing end. Vaz seems to find ways to lose and I think we should get rid of that kind of players in our team. Hardly his fault. witesoxfan's signature sums it up: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showuser=48
  9. I'd be looking to deal Contreras. He's the oldest of the group, and still has a lot left on his contract (both years and dollars). Teams have seen his spurts of greatness throughout this year and last, so he will have a fair amount of value (although not as much as it could be due to his age/contract), and we should be able to get enough in return to improve the ballclub overall.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) Kinda into Amos Lee right now. I saw Dylan in Atlantic City a few years ago and Amos Lee opened for him. It was QUITE good, and I ended up getting an album of his (self-titled one) because of his performance. After seeing them live last night, I've been listening to The Bad Plus a lot. Very good modern/progressive jazz band, amazing set last night. I've listened to them for awhile, but last night basically took me over the top, resulting in my buying a 2nd album of theirs (already had bought one) and downloading (soon to be buying) another. Great stuff for those of you into jazz, as are Dave Kings other bands such as 'Happy Apple' and 'Halloween, Alaska', although I haven't listened to 'Halloween, Alaska' yet. I'll be seeing any of them the next time they are in Minneapolis, which is pretty soon.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Something tells me we have seen this poster before... who were you before you got banned? Likely the guy who was pimping Orton last year, saying that Grossman sucked and that Orton was better (etc.)
  12. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) But greg likes his pitchers with wins, like Mark Redman. He's an All-Star, so he must be good!
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) 3 of the Tigers starters are likely to be LHP, the Twins have the big 2, 3 of the Indians starters are going to be LHP, and KC always seems to have a lot of lefties in their rotation. If our lineup can't handle LHP next season, we're going to struggle within our division. Teams simply don't platoon two lefties in the same position. Just throwing this out there, but the Tigers went 18-20 against the best of the division this year, and only 31-26 against the non-worthless members of the division. Despite this, they led the division for most of the year, and wound up among the leagues best, rather than in third place.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) So we have no one to face all the great LHP in our division? Might as well pencil us in for 3rd place then. Gload has hit lefties better than righties in his career (.323/.357/.484 to .292/.341/.428), albiet a much smaller sample size (93 AB to 397 AB). Regardless, just because "we have no one to face all the great LHP in our division" (which isn't true) doesn't mean we'd be a third place team... especially since our offense is so good against righties, which make up nearly 66% of the pitchers in the league.
  15. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Today is the final day of the White Sox reign as World Series Champions, at least in my mind, since they didn't qualify for the tournament to repeat. I just wanted to post my gratitude to the Sox for the most fun I've had as a baseball fan. This past year has been a blast! THANKS for the memories, and GET 'EM AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!!! I agree completely. Last year was the best sports year of my life, and brought a day that I didn't think would come around in my entire lifetime, let alone when I was merely 18. Great year, great fun, and great memories Now lets get back on track for 2007 and do it again
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) If he's starting in LF, I hope we upgrade offensively in CF, as well as add a back-up LF we can platoon Sweeney with. I think that Sweeney will adjust to major league pitching quicker than Anderson, but I see your point, which is why I mentioned Gload as another possibility, preferably as a platoon. (and yes, I know he's not that great defensively)
  17. Can I have "Ryan Sweeney" for 500? (or hell, Ross Gload)
  18. Jim Thome for Juan Pierre in a sign and trade. It'll work perfectly!
  19. I'm really disappointed that only one of you got that this was sarcasm, and a joke referring to this thread since the last 2 lines were taken directly from it..
  20. With his triple in the 9th inning, Ross Gload completed his 3/5 night, including a double and triple. Thats, like, a .600/.600/1.200 line if I calculated it correctly, making him FAR better than any other offensive player on this team. Maybe that's hindsight talking but that might have been the difference between being in the post-season and watching it. What if KW hadn't signed Paulie in the offseason and inserted Gload in the lineup ? Would we have made the playoffs ?
  21. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) I hate beene but I want Frank to get a legitimate ring.... What about Beane? How do you feel about him?
  22. QUOTE(joeynach @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) MB has a 9.5 Mil option for next year or a buyout to make him a free agent. The sox are in no position to trade a guy they currently do not have under conctract. End of story. uh.. care to explain?
  23. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) Oakland/Philadelphia, Minnesota, Detroit, everyone else, New York Mets, Yankees In that order.
  24. Notice how the White Sox also have a much better record than the Astros, and how the Astros have been below .500 for most of the year.
  25. QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) I don't. Those guys are jerks who brag about how Jose Reyes is the greatest baseball player who ever lived and how Carlos Beltran is the unanimous MVP. I hope this team gets killed. Let me rephrase: I feel sorry for the few Mets fans that I know that aren't complete assholes, which, in reality, is really only about 1% of the whole group
