    QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) This year his basestealing has been awful and I don't recall any pitchers making critical mistakes trying to keep him from going to 2nd. Wasn't a pitcher, but how about in Baltimore, when Chen picked him off and the first baseman rushed the throw to second because of Pods' speed, throwing it into the outfield?

    QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) So what's the point of having a speedy guy at the top of the order? And you already answered your own question. You asked for proof that he isn't distracting the pitcher yet you state yourself: "the fact that he isn't running" Why would a pitcher be distracted by someone who doesn't run? Reputation. Who cares if he doesn't run if the threat is still there? I doubt Rickey Henderson could still steal bases at a high rate, but I'd be willing to bet he'd get in the pitchers head. Honestly, if you have a row of Iguchi, Thome, Konerko, and Dye behind you, there is no point to having a speedy leadoff hitter. Pods is there because when he's hot, he gets on base at a excellent pace and he sees a lot of pitches, which works the pitcher and gives the chance for hitters behind him to see what the pitcher is throwing. 3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) I've listened to roughly fourteen minutes of this interview between Cashman and your typical New York sounding radio personality. This guy heavily criticizes Cashman for obtaining Corey Lidle; basically calling him a terrible pitcher. Says there's a missing intangible to Abreu's game, doesn't identify it, then asks Cashman if he's worried about the lack of a perceived "intangible" which "every National league fan can see." It's like a maze of circular logic with this dope. I guess it's true fans in New York are more critical. You never will hear comments like these in Chicago. I'd like to see Boers or Bernstein tell Williams MacDougal is a terrible pitcher. Or bring up past free agent signings which failed. He's actually a very good pitcher, just never healthy, which is the main problem with him.

    QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) His defense all season has been atrocious. He has one of the worst arms in the majors, is terrible at judging bloopers, he plays entirely too deep, and his lack of focus in actually catching fly balls is pathetic. I'll be the first to admit I hate him, but even some of the most optimistic, least critical people on this site have seen enough of his defense to be sickened. Yea, his defense has been pretty bad this year. Most of that is from one specific period however, where he just couldn't catch the balls. As of late, his defense has been better. Yes, he still has a crap arm and plays deep, but what makes that any different than last year? QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) I was a huge fan of Pods last season. This year is another story. He has provided no spark to this team at all. He doesn't steal, doesn't bunt, causes no distractions to the pitcher once he gets on, has a weak arm, and plays below average defense. If there are positives for keeping him in the lineup I am definitely not seeing them. If you can prove either of those, I'm listening. Also, I consider the fact that he isn't running as much a positive rather than a negative. It keeps him on the basepaths, and gives the heart of the order a chance to drive in more runs, since if he isn't stealing, he isn't getting thrown out.

    QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) Or how about we let him play in LF more? His D is bad out there, but so is everyone else we've put out there this season. There's no reason to keep PK and Thome on the bench once a week if they're healthy. If you look at the overall package, Pods >> Gload in LF. I know you hate Pods with a passion, but his defense hasn't been nearly as bad as you'd like to believe it is recently (last month or so).
  6. I'm not a fan, but thats just me. The outfield is too angular for my likes.
  7. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) It is? Last I checked, Manny was pretty damn good. Yes, and Pujols is much, much better.
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) It wouldn't be that much better than Ortiz/Ramirez. Thats an insult to Pujols.
  9. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) ummm....pujols Thats exactly what I'm saying.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) I believe 8 of those Hr's are walk offs for ortiz, are they for Pujols as well? Prove it. Pujols is hitting better with RISP, RISP/2 outs, close and late, runners on, and nearly every other situation such as that. I would take Pujols over Ortiz easily (which isn't saying Ortiz is bad, he's VERY good, but he's no Pujols)
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Ortiz hands down. He is the most clutch hitter in baseball by far. Pujols close and late: .341/.455/.955 44 AB, 8 HR, 18 RBI Ortiz close and late: .293/.359/.741 58 AB, 8 HR, 20 RBI
  12. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) Ha. Take off your Red Sox hatred goggles. Laughable. ? Albert Pujols is the best player in baseball, hands down. I'd take Pujols in a heartbeat over anyone else in nearly any situation.
  13. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) Would you rather have Ortiz or Pujols at the plate in that situation? I'd rather Ross Gload.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) I don't like this...Mac hasn't pitched in a few days, ride him out and stretch his arm. No need to push our starters any more. They've been pushed enough this year. It just makes Coop's recent quote look even funnier: http://suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-soxnt31.html
  15. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) He still only has one walk during that streak, and has only scored 3 Rs (2 of which were due to homerus). He just doesn't have a good eye, and swings at the first pitch way too much. If the guy would start taking a walk every once in a blue moon, he would be exponentially better. Yes, he doesn't walk. This has always been true, and doesn't matter when he's hot. Runs scored are team dependant, and if they matter to you so much, you must think that Pods is the 4th best leadoff man in the AL, since afterall, he's fourth out of leadoff men in the AL with 68 runs scored.
  16. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) Unfortunately, he isn't doing that well. Batting Average is extremely misleading. Yes, so lets ignore the .818 OPS, which isn't shabby, or the 11 game hit streak that he had which was snapped in the finale in Baltimore.
  17. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) Wow, so I can't dislike a guy here can I. Why don't you beach out the people that hate Podsednik then? I dislike Uribe; he's a terrible hitter. Deal with it. Thats not the point. You can complain about him all you want, but in nearly every single post of yours, there's something about him sucking, even though he's doing quite well as of late.
  18. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) I know, but hes still one of the worst hitters in the game. Why the hell are you complaining about Juan Uribe while he's hitting .306 since the ASB with a .818 OPS? At least complain while he's sucking for gods sake. He's one of the best defensive shortstops in the league, and although his throws haven't been the best as of late, he's still among the top of the list. He's always been a streaky hitter, this is nothing new. Deal with it, its not like he killed your firstborn or something.
  19. QUOTE(JERMAINEDYE4MVP @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) WE COULD'VE SENT VAZUEZ TO PADRES FOR LINEBRINK. METS GM IS A GEINUS.. TURNS NADY INTO LINEBRINK AND HERNANDEZ. WOW! WOW, CAPITAL LETTERS MAKE MY POST STAND OUT! WOW! Yea, this trade never got finalized. Good to know, it seemed like the Mets were getting way too much.
  20. Count's given up 3 runs in the first 2 innings? What's going on?

    No Trades?

    QUOTE(MinnesotaSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) relief pitching...we couldnt even get that Yea, we didn't get MacDougal or anything.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) I think I read that Minn wouldn't do it if Garza was involved, and that's what the Nats asked for, but at this time so much was written who knows I've read that they broke down and offered Garza, but it could have been too late by then.
  23. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) I want to hear about the Twins' trade only if it involves Liriano for Soriano. I'd love it if it involves Garza, which their latest offer supposidly does.
