QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) So Oliver Perez for Xavier Nady is apparently in talks or done. Can't figure out which. "The Mets have made a move they will hope will boost their suddenly lackluster rotation, sending outfielder Xavier Nady to the Pirates for left-hander Oliver Perez and reliever Roberto Hernandez, sources have told SI.com." http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...ades/index.html

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Anybody read anything about Todd Walker going to the Pads? Yep: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/9579681

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) How old is Contreras, really? My guess is ~43.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) Ozuna I believe. Ozuna tried warming up Bobby Jenks not too long ago. First pitch went straight to the backstop, and Ozuna looked back at the ball and walked off the field slowly

The admins decided that the swearing got too excessive and that people were taking advantage of their leaniancy (which is extremely true) so its blocked now. There was a thread which had some discussion about it in Palehose Talk, but I can't find it.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) I dont think the SOX can afford to NOT sign Zito. Everyone forgets, the Tigers have money to spend, and the taste of success is addictive. The Tigers are going to get better next season, the SOX better know this. Zito will be in New York, or another team that overpays tremendously. If the Tigers want to be that team, then please, let them be stuck with a giant contract for a pitcher whose reputation is bigger than what he provides.

QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) Wait, people would actually trade Bmac? I can't believe it. I like the guy just as much as anyone else, but the way Soxtalker's feel about him, they think he is the next Roger Clemens or Sandy Koufax. Besides a deal for Oswalt, is there anyone else we would trade BMac to? I've been pondering this thought for a while. He isn't worth Soriano or Tejada to most people here, so who is he worth? I'd trade him for Albert. Soriano just isn't worth McCarthy, especially considering the fact that Soriano likely won't resign here, and his defense is miserable. I also don't see the point in trading for Tejada, since Juan is more than capable of handling shortstop, and much cheaper and better at defense. If we want to compete, we need to have enough money to bring in quality players and if we traded for Tejada, I doubt we'd have enough money to really do much. As fathom mentioned in another trade, we already have ~$100 million wrapped up in 13 or so players next year.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) So it's Bobby Jenks' turn to suck this month? Seemed to work for Iguchi in May and Thome in June. The curse of the monthly wallpapers is back. *sigh* I hate it when you are right about these things

I'm sure once its actually August, one will be stickied.

No, of course not. The team has all of the right pieces, now they just need to start performing like they should be. I'm not asking for complete game shutouts, but how about 7 innings where they let up 3 runs?

QUOTE(zenryan @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) cant blame Big Bad Bobby. I blame Javy and Ozzie Yep, its not like the closer entered the game with the lead or anything. It's all Javy's fault for.. uh.. crap.. LIVING. Yea, thats it. And Ozzie? How dare he use his closer! Jenks blew the game. He might not have been needed if Cotts didn't let the inherited runners score or if Ozzie took Javy out earlier, but one way or the other, the Sox entered the 9th with the lead.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) Hey, I hope you're right. I just don't think someone's going to take all of his contract. All of his contract meaning 10 million next year, which really isn't that much for a pitcher of his quality.
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) If he does blow it, can't really blame him. He's been the best closer by definition in baseball this year. Huh?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) This is likely Tejada's last Orioles AB. I doubt he'll be moved. Oriole fans would kill the front office

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) I don't care if Crede strikes out....swing with 2 hands with authority. Don't worry, he'll pop it up, not strike out.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Biggest bargain of a contract in the league? (Obviously not counting guys on their rookie deal) His name is Albert Pujols. It doesn't matter how much you pay him, its still a bargin.

lol DJ "Instead of the Orioles being out in the seats, its the boo birds"

*sigh* depending on homeruns Great job by JD there

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) I still stand by my statement that the outfield that started the game for the Sox today is the worst in baseball. It's worse with Gload in RF.

Thank you ESPN.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Credepopsitup QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) Credepopsitup. Its because he cut his hair.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Great game, but do we need a thread for a team that will be the 2nd best college basketball team in Illinois this coming season? You think that highly of UIC, eh?

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) I would've called time out, driven to Charlotte or wherever he is, driven back, and brought in Politte there if he needed another right hander before Markakis. He was released.

QUOTE(zenryan @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) this no cussing rule sucks This has so much to do with the game thats on right now. Really.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) If we were to somehow get him, I sure wouldn't complain. He's a superstar...and it would mean no more Mackowiak in CF. Any deal for him would likely need to include Anderson/BMac, so when Jones would need a rest, Mack would be back in CF
