QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) My view is...if you buy a seat, you should be entitled to it (whether you have one assigned or not). To the extent it is overbooked, that is okay, but United needs to continue to increase the offer on "compensation" until people voluntarily exit the aircraft. To be fair, that isn't a reasonable process. There has to be a cap or else the compensation could be in the millions of dollars by the time someone takes it, since the passengers know the airline has no leverage. Employees can't have that kind of discretion. In any event, this wasn't an overbooked flight. This guy was removed for their own employee, which I think, is what is causing the outcry. If the guy won't leave because another passenger had rights to the seat, then the conversation is different.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) also United didnt drag a guy off the flight, the police did. And you don't think when United put the policy to call the police in place, this exact scenario wasn't considered? The police are called specifically to remove the passenger. They don't have time to de-escalate the situation since the plane is trying to take off.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) I think it's more likely flynn has nothing, but is fishing for immunity on illegal lobbying with a foreign power. To the extent that he has much it may be obstructing an investigation. 100% agree. If he had anything he would have immunity by now. Also, not that the National Enquirer stuff can ever be confirmed, but it seems like Trump is trying to throw him under the bus. Wouldn't do that if he had any valuable intel.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) The most recent convo came regarding women getting angry about being called "girls", and in the argument the point was made that women don't call men "boys" which is categorically false. "I'm with the boy" "me and the boy" "hey i hear you have a new boy" etc etc etc etc Me: Then, here's my post that got the angry ball rolling: Her: Me: Her: And it devolved from there - where I ended up getting painted in pretty f***ed up strokes by the gang of women that joined in the convo. Thoughts? Ways for me to improve? Pointers: First, you made the mistake of saying we need to solve "all of the problems." No, you're trying to resolve historic systemic injustice. White men do not have that problem. Second, your comment about rape culture is asking for trouble. It really isn't relevant that women make men feel bad. Rape is wrong regardless. Never remotely imply that women bear responsibility for changing men's action regarding rape.

Well, it's kinda hard to opine when you don't say what topics you are "debating" and what your "opinions" are. I would note that the way you feel now is probably how women and POC have felt in the workplace for a long time. Also, some people just want to be offended and there is nothing to be gained anyway. But I think more info would help. It's an interesting topic.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) In hindsight, it's quite obvious what the GOP SHOULD have done. One up or down vote on repealing the ACA. THEN, you force the Tuesday and House Freedom Caucus members to actually work together on replacing ObamaCare, where all the members have skin in the game and own the disastrous result if they can't even work together within their own party. Now, you have a situation of the "blame game" where everyone simply avoids taking responsibility for the consequences of not simply improving the ACA, whereas now they can simply do everything possible to sabotage ObamaCare and then turn around and say, "gee, look, it's failing, it's the fault of the Dems (and we had no responsibility during those past 7 years to work together in a bipartisan way to fix it." Of course, the GOP will turn around and argue that the strategy of obstruction and complaining about Obama was effective and led to "victories" in almost every two year election cycle except for the 2012 Presidential. They're confusing those victories with the American people wanting the AHCA, and they're DEFINITELY not the same thing. ACA popularity was around 47% in a recent poll, with the AHCA at 30% and falling like a rock in recent days. Pretty sure freedom caucus doesn't want any federal health care. They gladly would have held out to screw everyone.

Apparently Adam Schiff told MSNBC that there is "more than circumstantial evidence" of collusion between Russia and Trump. Wow. Seems to me that Schiff just figured, "Well, if you think you're going to change the narrative, then here's this nugget..." Edit: i was beat and Hurtin had a link.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) Statement from Adam Schiff, top ranking Democrat on House Intelligence Committee (Nunes is committee chair): Nunes says he can't share the information with Committee because he doesn't have it. This is crazy. Nunez basically mislead the public, if not flatly lied. I can only assume Trump himself told Nunez what to do. Seems strange that these intercepts are not related to Russia, and even if they are released, they can't hurt Trump. Like a 2005 tax return, for example. Meanwhile, Nunez is blaming Comey for not providing certain information to the intel committee. How about this: Comey knows Nunez can't be trusted and is probably going down with this ship.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) I just assumed that was sarcasm.... Maybe so, but that's the obvious direction people are going to go. Also, I can't keep track of who sides with who.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Hey look, Trump was right again. Obama will go down with quite the legacy of surveillance. Such a dumpster president. Except Nunez flatly said that Trump was still wrong and this is something different.
-
Maddow claims to have the tax returns. My feeling is they won't be as good as I want them to be.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 09:28 PM) Senate subcommittee is going to investigate Trump's unsupported claim of being wire tapped by Obama. https://twitter.com/thehill/status/83890430...src=twsrc%5Etfw That looks like a committee Trump doesn't want to be in front of: Graham - R (who called out Trump over the weekend) Whitehouse - D Senator Cornyn - R Senator Durbin - D Senator Cruz - R (a wild card at this point) Senator Klobuchar - D Senator Sasse - R (who used the phrase "civilization warping crisis of public trust") Senator Coons - D Senator Kennedy - R I don't think any had ties to Trump as part the of transition or earlier, unlike Nunez. It could be that Trump handed them the stick with which to beat him. Or nothing will come if it. Who knows.

Read this. I found it eye opening to understanding those who refuse to find any problem with Trump's antics. Medium

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) NYT has updated its story about how the FBI had interviewed Flynn in the first few days, to now say those investigators do not believe he was "entirely forthcoming" https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/02/14/us/po...t.co/mHDa9igK6v While this is interesting, I'm not sure what this democracy looks like with this FBI that leaks out all details of ongoing investigations. I think there are agents in the FBI looking for Comey's head. It's possibly there's evidence Comey actively aided Trump. Of course it could just be that someone wants his job. I would add that this might be what it looks like when a president attempts to undermine American democracy.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:32 AM) I understand bashing Trump for things but reporting like this makes me sick. One of our best just died trying to gather intelligence to help the free world. Running a story purely to insinuate incompetence is a disgrace to the dead operator, his family & all the special operators risking their lives. Everyone knows that US special operations are probably the most thoroughly planned missions in the history of all things being planned. They don't go unless they think it will work, bottom line. To write an article making it sound like Trump is just recklessly sending in SEAL teams & using the death of a special operator to further a political beef is beyond dishonorable. Sorry but f***. that. s***. There were sources saying your position on the preparation is wrong. I know the press has had a recent history of not doing its job, but that needs to be reported.

Good read in Kushner: Vanity Fair Trump is using Kushner's observance of sabbath against him by making EOs when Kushner can't work.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 10:51 PM) I realize that this is discussing policies implemented by the worst people on Earth, but on paper I'm not sure what the obvious issue is with this one. Looks like Bannon is part of the report I guess so that's annoying, what else am I missing? Supposedly it's the defense dept overseeing dept of education. Not sure there's much to it.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) Cybersecurity EO expected to be signed tomorrow https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/...raft-of-the.pdf Sigh, I remember being taught in school about the 3 branches of government. He's just copying Obama. Which is an odd choice considering he called Obama the worst president ever.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) I'll just claim ignorance here but shouldn't these folks be arrested or something for disobeying court orders? I'm going to guess those reports aren't entirely true. Otherwise there's a suspicious lack of investigating.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) Oh good the Nazi has even more power now. Spicer claimed an "imminent threat" prevented them from notifying anyone before this EO. https://twitter.com/joshrogin/status/825754...src=twsrc%5Etfw And it appears they're ready to ignore court orders? https://twitter.com/AymanM/status/825755230...src=twsrc%5Etfw Merkel had to explain the Geneva convention to trump https://twitter.com/Kevinliptakcnn/status/8...src=twsrc%5Etfw That first tweet you linked is deleted so I'm guessing that didn't happen. More importantly, I don't think the injunction prevented enforcement of the EO entirely. It prevents deportation of legitimate visa holders since they could be going back to countries where they face imminent harm. Someone can correct me.

As far as I can tell, Chicago taxes are substantially less than you would pay in Madison, WI. The problem with taxes is not the amount you pay, it's whether you feel you get something for it. Here, we have quality public transportation (that people actually use for commutes), ample bike paths (which people actually use for commutes), clean parks, libraries, effective/progressive policing (regardless of specific incidents to the contrary), affordable housing initiatives, and a very accessible government. Schools here are good, but have problems like a lot of cities. People may complain about all the things I listed, but the City generally does a good job at working toward making it a livable City for everyone. So even though we have very high taxes, and high home values, people will pay with minimal complaint. Obviously Chicago has arts, culture and so many great things to offer, but i'm not sure most Chicagoans feel like those things are accessible. Parking, transportation, everything is expensive. If people can't access the things their taxes pay for, then they will complain.

QUOTE (Donaldo @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 08:23 PM) Laurence Holmes never moved away, did he? IIRC, he got started as a producer for the old WMAQ Sports Huddle back in the mid 90s. He was on air daily in a variety of capacities since the early 2000s and did play by play for DePaul. And I never said someone had to move away. It's an experience issue. Abattacola never had a daily talk show for any length of time. That opportunity was never coming at the Score. Goff had to leave to get that experience.
-
Abbatocola not producing Bernstein and Goff. Interesting...
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) Poor Abbatacola. Not really. Goff had to leave and go to Atlanta to get a shot. Even though he failed, the Score was loyal to him when he came back. Abbatacola never took that chance.

Apparently tomorrow will be the last B&B. I thought it was going to be 1/5 but something must have happened.
