QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) Are you seriously asking why pension plans shouldn't take into account the current economy and rate of returns for other investments that are happening NOW, but instead should base their predictions on what they did 5, 10, 20 years ago? Wisconsin and others I'm sure, do take current conditions into account. There are floors and ceilings on benefits during a given year.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) if the bankruptcy is denied, but they literally have NO money, how will they pay the pensions? Try to get a loan? Sell junk bonds? I don't see how it would end. Anyone know? Layoffs and higher taxes. I'm pretty state and local govt has a cap on borrowing unlike the Feds.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) What was your favorite memory of the Hanson era? That time he beat Hawk at arm rasslin and Hawk explained that he had the strongest top hand since Gary Sheffield. You could someone as good a top hand, but none better.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) This might well have been a good strategy. The jury seems to have had no idea what the judge's manslaughter related instructions were, and they don't seem to make sense upon reading anyway. That said, they'd still have a mountain to climb. In Florida, if a killer claims it was in self defense, the law assumes the killing was unless the state can prove otherwise. The burden of proof to establish that a killing wasn't self defense is on the state. That's a really rough case to make in this situation even for manslaughter. Well that has nothing to do with Florida law, that's how it works anywhere. The law requires that the govt proves its case. People always come up with some defense, usually by pointing to another guy. The govt has to show that it was THIS defendant, thereby proving it wasn't someone else.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) Those were all in there. What do you want them to do, slow it down and make the video a half hour? It was meant to be a quick summary, nailing every game and triggering the memory of how it went down. Ugh. I know. And they were given the same weight as every other goal. I wanted it to be better.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) I just negotiated a package with them that includes a bunch of extra crap. Just paid the retainer. Next in line is the videographer and the DJ. Once we have them locked up I will feel much better. The DJ is extremely important. Videographer is really a waste. But I'm not gonna be there so...

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) I actually thought the video was fine, with or without a short time frame to turn it around. It was a brief summary of goals/saves etc for each win. What exactly was wrong with it? Also, this is kind of scary: http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/Two-A...-213556321.html The videos completely missed the drama of some of the best parts of the playoffs. Why do I need 2 second clips of every goal when more time could be given the Frolik's penalty shot, the last goals against the Bruins, Seabrook's game 7 goal in overtime. Everything was just thrown together. I get it that they don't have months to work on it, but I'm not asking for Oscar winning stuff.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 10:18 AM) Holy s***! We went and met with our first photographer yesterday. I chose this guy. His work is amazing. He wants like $5-6k, and that doesn't even include the digital rights for the photos, which are an additional $1200 or $50 per shot. The photos are the ONE thing I really, really would splurge for, but yeezus, $5-6k? I know a lot of people who dropped $10k on the photography. I think we spent $3k (or less). Our pics were better and our photog was one of the most important people helping us on the day.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) Um...my guess is they didn't start editing those videos until Tuesday morning. It is Friday morning. That's not easy. Thanks for your input though. -- Your Friendly Resident Video Editor ...and? I understand that you empathize, but they weren't good. --Your friendly consumer

These videos they made are not good. I didn't think it was possible to take all the drama out of such an historic Stanley Cup win, but they did.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 10:41 PM) Yes it was! That is why he had to do the Boston coach interview so he would not cry. Yeah but there was a funny smile on JR's face after the interview.

Too bad Roenick can't be crying on the air again. That was awesome.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 07:18 PM) Sitting on the bench with all the bright lights and noise probably isn't the best way to treat a concussion, so I agree that it might be something different. They usually take those guys into a dark quiet room. I enjoyed that Julien called Bergeron's injury a "body" injury. It's a very bad way of treating it. It's just weird because it has to be something serious enough that they wouldn't play him even up 1, but didn't just leave him in the locker room. Which, as Kyle said, is actually consistent with a stinger. Reinjury risk is high right after the first occurrence.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) Obviously. I was just pointing out that he probably has a concussion. There's no indication that he isn't traveling with the team. He was on the bench the whole period. It looked like a likely concussion but there's really no evidence of that based on the team's handling of the situation. He was apparently posing with fans for pictures after the game.

Go for broke, pull Crawford.

This has to be the worst pp in the history of the Stanley cup right?

This is a really tough watch.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) Hossa out per HNIC Yeah it's on the trib too. That's not gonna be good for anybody.

It's like the hawks are being toyed with.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) They took the other offer, had way more on their down payment than I did. Why would they care about the down payment? Do you mean earnest money? We lost out on 2 houses before getting an accepted offer. The other 2 were likely cash offers with no contingencies according to our agent. I can't compete with that and I don't want to. There's always another one.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 10:19 AM) Good luck...how old is the property? Built in 1970.
-
Have an accepted offer on a house as of this morning. Won't be closing until July so we don't have to pay overlapping rent and mortgage. The savings will be worth the wait. Meanwhile the chimney brick work isnt in great shape. We tried to get the owners to agree to repair and it freaked them out. So now it just depends on the inspection so we find out the cost to repair. Then we have to negotiate that.

This is lazy defense and slow play all around.
