  1. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) So pretty much Thome has the White Sox handcuffed? As I understand it Thome can be traded to two teams, and two teams only: the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians.
  2. f*** this s***... I'm watching the U.S. Open instead...
  3. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) I wish everbody on the Sox had an attitude "problem" like AJ. ^^^^
  4. Man, this game is going be great!
  5. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) Looks like me and you are the only ones in here. Wow. Fairweather fans, you! I'm here... just too depressed to post anything....
  6. Unless the reporter has a quote he wants to include of A.J. b****ing, I don't give it too much credence. It just fits too neatly in to the narrative the national sports media has about A.J. There seems little reason to throw that line in the article, save to stoke the ashes. I bet A.J. hates puppies too.
  7. QUOTE(AirScott @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) Awesome. You said almost exactly what I did. Sorry, didn't mean to step on your feet... I hadn't reloaded the page before I posted. I guess great minds think alike?
  8. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) this is an incredible record and im not taking anything at all away from bobby here but do you guys buy what hawk ozzie and coop said, that its harder to do as a reliever?i think it is harder to do as a starter.....you have guys that will see you 3 times in the same game and your arm is more fatigued after 100 or so pitches....on the other hand its difficult to get in a groove as a reliever and you sometimes have to come in when you aren't 100% warmed up, and it can be tough to have control after just a short time in the pen....also you are facing the pressures of the late inning situation, however, as a starter you are potentially and probably facing the pressures of throwing a perfect game... its debatable and remarkable either way so it may be a moot point, but what do you guys think? I think there might be an good argument that it is more difficult as a reliever. Jim Barr, who held the record alone before today, had to get 41 in two appearances over seven days (23AUG72 & 29AUG72), where as Bobby did it in 14 appearances over 27 days. I'd say you could argue that it is more difficult stay perfect for nearly a month against seven different teams than for a week against two teams.

  10. First and foremost, Congratulations to Bobby! QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Can you imagine how big this would be if Jonathan Papelbon had tied the record? There would be countless updates, in-progress video from ESPN and the MLB section of their website probably wouldn't have a picture of Aaron Harang on the front page right now. It's a shame Bobby will get so little national attention for an amazing accomplishment. I complete agree. This is the ESPN-ization of sports... A truly awesome record like this just isn't sexy enough, and more importantly to them, it doesn't feed any narrative that they are pushing. Just like how the political media has destroyed discourse with the narrowing of speeches to soundbites, sports media has distain for anything that is longer than a homerun or a "web gem." This record happened three outs at a time over the period of weeks. ESPN et al. doesn't have the attention span for that.
  11. As I understand it, it is not a matter if Dye will be resigned, but rather how long he will be signed for.
  12. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) to me this record is not getting nearly enough national attention.....can you imagine how much espn would be all over this had it been papelbon or rivera that did this I totally agree. I was watching SportsCenter and they mentioned it as an afterthought when recapping the game. If it was a BoSox/Yankee it would have lead the broadcast.
  13. So is this for real this time? Didn't Hendry put out a press release a day or so ago saying this rumor was nonsense?
  14. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 01:13 AM) ummm where did this bullpen suddenly come from?!? Stone and Hawk were awesome again, making me laugh, great insight on the game. Awesome game to watch tonite. Yeah, apparently, MacDougal can deal again.
  15. Yeah, I heard several sports memorabilia/auction house guys on NPR's Marketplace say that $500k is where they expect it to go... $3m is wildly unrealistic imho. You, obviously, can choose to believe me or not about destroying the ball. Maybe it is easier for me since I don't have children I have to provide for, but we live a comfortable life... I would have no second thoughts about blowing that thing up.
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 12:59 AM) This surely cannot be Uribe's first ever walk off hit... BBTN said it was his first ever... I find that a little shocking myself.
  17. Jerry Owens with some nice plays out in CF and TWO SB.
  18. QUOTE(RealSouthSider @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 12:40 AM) Linn that sig is f***ing ownage
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 12:40 AM) LOL, Josh Mora just had one of the worst post game interviews with Juan Uribe. Uribe knows 2 phrases. "I try to win da game for da team", and "I just try to win the game. that was good for me" Yeah, I was cracking up laughing... "I hit ball good! I make play! Team Win!"
