  1. FYI, there are still tickets left for that game in the LOWER LEVEL. Plenty of tickets remain.
  2. Last year I'd have been more worried about this game than I am this year, strangely. Tampa made us look terrible last year, and Garcia only got up for big games. This year, Garcia is no different against big teams than little teams.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) It starts an hour and 10 minutes before the FOX game of the week time slot, but because of FOX's exclusive on the time slot 12-6, no other networks are allowed to broadcast games during that time. Meh. Unless the game turns out to be irrelevant, Fox will broadcast it, even if its early.
  4. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) What really could be the biggest game of the year, the game on Saturday September 30 in Minnesota has no TV and according to banter discussed here last year, there is nothing anyone can do about it because FOX owns the rights. The game will not be moved to noon because the friggin Gophers have a football game later that day in the Metrodome. Great my heartache or joy is pinned to listening to Chris Singleton. The game will probably be on Fox, especially since it appears it will be a huge game. What makes you think it won't be?
  5. Tuesday, August 29th, 7:05pm Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Chicago White Sox US Cellular Field Fossum (6-5) vs Garcia (12-8) Preview: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/gamecenter/p...20060829_TB@CHW I'm putting my 2-0 regular season game thread record on the line here. Time to beat up on the teams we are supposed to beat up on. *clears throat* GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:42 AM) Am I the only person left in the world who doesn't own an Ipod? Just you and Kim Jong Il.
  7. QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) i own the following soundtracks, looking for rec's: The last of the mohicans All wes anderson movie soundtracks all jon brion scored soundtracks Hook OST suggestions? If you like Mohicans, here are some you might enjoy, that have similar aspects in sound... Gladiator Black Hawk Down Master and Commander Dances with Wolves Braveheart Geronimo (1994) Hero (the Chinese one with Jet Li, in this case) Which you would like depends on what you like about the others. If you like soundtrack music, particularly orchestral stuff, here are some of the classical composers typically borrowed from (ripped off) by many modern soundtrack composers... Holst Mahler Beethoven Mussorgsky Tull Bruckner
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) Just because it doesn't come up when I randomly select 20 of the 3449 songs on my playlist doesn't mean I don't have any. Hell, there was even a soundtrack song that did pop up on mine...sure it was from star trek, but it was there! Star Trek counts. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) Do songs from the soundtracks to The Wedding Singer, This Is Spinal Tap or River's Edge count? Cuz then I'm all about soundtracks!! Heck yeah that counts! Especially Spinal Tap. QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) ten out of 6000 songs i have every miles davis, duke ellington, roland kirk, coltrane, parker, etc etc album but jazz albums typically had longer songs = fewer songs = less chance in this lottery bro. Nice. Only of those I don't own some of is Roland Kirk (that I can think of). QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) My jazz is mostly on vinyl. Although I had Bossa Nova in my list, thankyouverymuch QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Not true. I have a bunch of Jazz and Soundtracks, but I also have 9,882 songs on here. They might not show up within 10. I stand corrected. I guess there are plenty of you! QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) Number 11 was the theme song from Lost Boys. Just missed the list. Sorry Northside I feel much better now. Still old, but better. And jeez, I only have like 3800 songs on mine.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) Which were the charges he fled from, correct? Well... he fled those to Thailand, then effectively fled Thailand from the charges there. Since Cali is here in the states, they and CO will get first crack, probably. Though I'd really love it if they sent him back to Thailand. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) If he's psychologically confused and genuinely believes he committed the murder, how can you charge him with making a false statement? If you don't know you're telling a lie, are you really telling a lie - legally? I don't believe that. Of course, I haven't spoken to the guy. But I've spoken to more than one sex offender against children, and there is a common thread there - its not that they don't know what they are doing - its that they think its right. Seriously.
  10. I cannot believe that I am the only one in here who has any classical, jazz or soundtrack music in their iPod. I do see one or two blues tracks, though.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) It really sucks for the family in the sense that this other guy isn't guilty of the crime they almost definitely committed. And does this guy get some sort of punishment for lying about something of this magnitude? Charges that are possible and come to mind: --Obstruction of Justice --Fraud with a special instrument --Possible violations of federal visa regulations Plus he could get sued in civil court. And I am not sure how often it happens, but yes, the US could indeed send this guy back to Thailand, where he could be charged with their equivalent of flight to evade, in addition to whatever he was already charged with. His life would become hell on earth. I can't say I'm surprised about any of this.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) Yes, wearing a uniform will prepare them for their job at McD's Fedex and Coldstone. Which is one reason why I personally don't favor uniforms. But a reasonable dress code makes plenty of sense.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) Actually, California has a bunch of other threats that are worth noting, and I think most of them are more likely than the New Madrid. First and foremost, here are the recorded events on that fault: 2244 BC+/-269 to 1620 BC+/-220, AD 900, AD 1450, and AD 1812. There's somewhere between 500-1000 years between each of those events, so just statistically, I don't think the odds are very good that we'll see anything on that particular fault in my lifetime. CUSEC: http://www.cusec.org/S_zones/NMSZ/nmsz_home.htm and Live Science: http://www.livescience.com/forcesofnature/...new_madrid.html Seem to feel differently. Looks like about 90% chance of 6.0 or greater in next 50 years, 20-40% for 7.0 or greater, 7-10% for 9.0 or greater. A 6.0-7.0 quake in that region would be devastating.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) These kids are very far from your "real world." They are kids. Baggy pants? Tank tops? Come on, why dont we make everyone march in a line and wear a uniform while we are at it. They do, in military school. Heck, even public schools in some places now require uniforms. And that is sort of my point - these kids are very far from the real world. School is part of how we adapt and learn in society. School is like going to work, for kids. I don't think public schools should require uniforms, but i do think a dress code is reasonable. Just like one is at work. I don't have to wear a suit every day, but I can't show up looking like a slob either. Kids can still be kids, even with a dress code. They can still play and have fun and interact. I don't see this as a hinderence to those things. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) these kids are being forced to go to school. we shouldnt force them to wear or not wear certain clothes at the same time. the business analogy sounds good and all, but you aren't forced to work at a particular business. you choose to work there and thus choose to accept their dress code. Some businesses have a suit-only dress code, others go business casual, others say anything is fine. if we dont treat high school students like adults, how are we supposed to expect them to act like adults? Are you serious with this line in bold? Because you just made my point for me. Adults don't go to work with their pants around the middle of their asses.
  15. I don't personally see it as a problem how often Ozzie plays his bench, with one exception - BA is benched far too often. I think the real problem with the bench use, BA aside, is that Ozzie plays his bench players IN THE WRONG POSITIONS. Its not how often they play... its where they play. Ozzie... --Plays Mack in CF 3 times a week instead of once a week in CF, once in LF and once in RF --Plays Ozuna in LF 2 times a week instead of 3B once a week (where Crede has a bad back), pinch run and RH PH occasionally, and OF only on rare occasion --Plays Cintron at 3B, when he should only be playing middle infield (Iguchi could actually use more rest) --Plays Gload in RF and 1B when he should only be used at 1B and as the #1 LH PH on the team
  16. Earlier this season, I was one of the people who backed Ozzie's decision to play Mack a full third of the time or even half time in CF. That was because, at that time, Anderson's hitting was so horrific that it far outweighed the positives he brought on defense. Well, now, for a solid 2 to 3 months, Anderson is hitting. And his defense is still excellent. So now, the smart move is to put BA in there 90% of the time. I think Ozzie's is of the mind that he is a rookie and needs rest his first year. But honestly, Mr. Anderson looks like he is just getting stronger. Time to put him in, coach. Just pointing out that even a former fan of Mack in CF 40% of the time believes that BA should now be out there nearly all the time.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) Baggy pants and tank tops? Give me a break. Let me ask you this... How many places of work can you walk into as an employee with pants down to your ass and a tank top? The answer is very few. And school is supposed to teach kids the things they need to know to survive and succeed in the real world. Asking them to pull up their pants and have sleeves on their shirts isn't nearly as much to ask as many of their future jobs have.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) Just wait until a monster quake hits LA, then we will find out what the true definition of chaos really is. For all of the fuss, New Orleans isn't even close to as big of an area that sits with a natural disaster bullseye in the United States. Hopefullly we are learning from this mess, not only in our disaster planning, but in the thinking of avoiding areas prone to disaster. At least LA has been preparing for it, to an extent. I'm more scared for what Memphis and St. Louis will look like when New Madrid goes again (which is past due now, by most accounts). St. Louis has done some things to prepare, but not much. Memphis has wholesale ignored the problem. And whats worse, Memphis is sitting on a sinking bluff of sand and mud - which, if an earthquake occurs, creates what is known as a liquification zone. The effect of the tremors is magnified (unlike in California, where big rocky mountains can quickly dissipate the energy, preventing it from spreading far from the quake, in certain areas). Anything stronger than a 7.0 and Memphis will be an unimagineable disaster area - way worse than New Orleans, and with no warning at all.
  19. I personally believe that the smart plan would involve a lot less rebuilding of homes at all. Rebuild in certain areas that are lower risk for future disaster, and leave the flood plains to be park land, open space, recreation facilities, etc. This would serve all sorts of positive purposes, including... --Condensing the remaining population into less area, making those residential areas faster to recover --Creating open space and recreational opportunities for a city that has historically struggled with creating a positive lifestyle culture for its residents --Reducing future damage due to future hurrincanes and floods (which WILL happen again) - this is probably the single most important reason --Serve as a focal point for marketing the city's recovery, and convincing others to come to NO to live and do business
  20. I actually think I like it. Its not as if this school is telling them to put on suits - just not where offensive slogans on their clothes, low cut shirts, etc. Sounds good to me.
  21. Iowa has more pigs than people. A scorpion can be frozen in a block of ice, thawed out, and live. A gecko can walk vertically on surfaces as smooth as (and including) glass.
  22. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Well, you are right, all the media ran with it to an extent because yes, it is news when the President's advisor is under investigation. But as usual, some more than others. Well yes. But what I was actually getting at is that they chose to go after Rove instead of Armitage because Rove is the higher value target.
  23. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) Stay on topic. Rove didn't leak it, Armitage did. State knew about it and kept silent. Fitzgerald either knew about it and did nothing, or is a crappy special investigator and couldn't figure it out when 3 people or more from State knew about it. The liberal media ran with this like rabid dogs for months while Fitzgerald kept 'investigating' someone who dodn't do the 'crime'. Whether they acted on any information that became public or not is not relevant. They didn't make it public, which is what the whole big deal was about in the first place. The "liberal" media ran with it because Rove is a bigger, easier target than Armitage (who probably some 5% of the country has even heard of). I despise Karl Rove, but the thing is, he's really, really good at what he does. And its difficult to see anything illegal in his actions. if Armitage did the leaking... then yeah, Armitage deserves the beating.
