QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) I think the Obama campaign is throwing smoke screens. No one know where to look. Then BAM! I would NOT be shocked int he least if he picks Powell or Kerry. No one seems to mention these guys. Highly unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibility. I would be shocked at Powell or Kerry. Remember why Powell dropped out when he ran before - I don't think his wife changed her mind. And Kerry is just going to look really bad for moderates, so I say no way. It could be someone obscure, but I'd still say the short list of likelies (in no particular order) is: Biden Kaine Richardson Sebelius Bayh

Your first place Chicago White Sox!
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
73-53, still +1 over the farking Twins. 20 games over .500 for the first time this year. -
So, Valido was promoted to Charlotte, and I noticed that Miranda wasn't in the W-S lineup. Given the crowded middle infield at W-S, anyone thing maybe Miranda is headed for B-Ham?

QUOTE (HawkDJ @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) So I'm a huge Obama supporter and registered to vote in Illinois. I'm away at school in North Carolina and just realized my vote would probably mean more if I register in North Carolina, it seems there is an off chance we could go blue this year whereas Illinois will most definitely go blue. What do you guys think? If I want to do this, how do I go about canceling my Illinois registration? I'd go with NC. Just don't vote in IL, don't bother trying to get out of that registration, it will be way too much of a pain. By the way, welcome to the Buster... you need to read, agree to and post acknowledgement in the MUST READ thread, pinned, before posting further in here. Then, please do keep posting!

Garrett Johnson started for Bristol and is getting beat up a bit.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) When my Congress shoots down any viable third party system with TOTAL bipartisan support to keep themselves in power, it's a little hard to be "supportive" of any of these assclowns. You end up voting for someone who is closer to your ideals but not in full support. I personally can't stand GWB (yes, I do think he gets a raw deal, which is why I defend him more often then not) but I voted for him because he was DEFINITELY (IMO) better then John Kerry. I wish I had a better candidate in 2004 to support. Same in 2000. I realize that you don't feel the same way, but... I personally think that both parties ran better candidates out there in the primaries than they had anytime in my lifetime. Not that that is saying a lot, but, its progress. I therefore think its all the more important to show up at the polls in 2008. And yes, I do think Obama is something different than we've seen. Heck, McCain is old guard, but in some ways, he is also unique compared to many recent candidates. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) Evil to me would be genocide, like in Rwanda or Hitler Human experiments Torture like Saddam stuff like that. I'm not certain what kind of definition he would be doing to judge something the US has done as evil. Perhaps giving billions in aid around the world? Sending our troops, at our expense, around the globe? Calling the US evil is just asinine. We haven't done anything recently that I'd call "evil". But, I think an unjust and awfully executed war in Iraq is close. Go back in history, and see what we did to the American Indians. I'd call that evil. Slavery as well. But those are of course way, way back.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) I can honestly say I voted for my candidate in 2004. You say the system is broken, but until you stop supporting candidates you don't like, these kinds of candidates will keep perpetuating the system. I don't agree. If people stop voting, and the voting % goes down, you will only get worse candidates because fewer people have a stake in the game. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) Obama's in NC on Tuesday evening, Virginia on Wednesday morning. So, he's lingering Virginia area. Might be a hint. My personal guess is he'll want to announce in the evening to get live media coverage in prime time if possible. FYI: Obama vice presidential choice likely this week If you want to get into the geography thing, then its also worth noting that Obama is spending today in New Mexico for a couple events.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) That's just not true. I held my nose and voted for the guy... and I'm the same with McCain at this point, except it's worse - like I might not even vote. Which is sad, because I'm interested in the process, I just can't bring myself to like the guy at all... Vote. Please vote. Vote for whomever you think is the best available (which I realize may not be great), but still vote. Look at 3rd party candidates. -
Miranda has been promoted back to Winston-Salem, where he started the year (this move made room for Beckham at Kanny). He joined the team and played his first game back on August 15th. Here are his final numbers at Kanny: .306/.383/.375/.758 23 BB / 26 K 9 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR (of note - both homeruns and most of this doubles came in the last month of play) 12 errors in 65 games (playing a combination of SS, 2B and 3B) So far at W-S, he is 2-for-8 with 1 R, 1 RBI and 1 SB. He's started 2 games - one at SS, the other at 2B then moving to 3B in game. His third game he pinch ran for Thon and did not see the field. He is playing in a crowded middle infield that also includes Paiml, Lang and Mollenhauer, which will make it hard to find playing time for all of them. You may see one or more promoted or demoted, or moved positionally.

So, has anyone else noticed that this big $7500 tax credit for new home buyers isn't a credit at all? Its a loan? Basically, the government says it wants to rescue citizens from a poor housing market and questionable loan practices, by engaging them in a questionable loan practice. f***ing brilliant.

Poreda's name comes up when talking 5th starter.
NorthSideSox72 replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not a good idea, IMO. He's still developing his secondary pitches and his command, so I don't think he's quite ready yet. He was only drafted in 2007. Broadway would be my first choice for the 5th starter spot, followed in order by Egbert, Cassel and Whisler. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:38 AM) I think it would be a big pain in the ass, but if it drastically improved public transportation, it might be worth it. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) They have a lot of private money - if they didn't they wouldn't have won the USOC round. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:53 AM) It would be a huge shot in the arm to a crumbling infrastructure and neighborhoods that really need rebuilding. I would love to see it happen. All the above. Bring it on. Among the finalists, there is really only one city that I think will give Chicago a run for their money - Rio. Tokyo tries for it every damn cycle, and Nagano just had a winter Olympics, plus Beijing in the region. Europe goes in 2012, no way they go again in 2016. That leaves Chicago and Rio. South America has NEVER had an olympics, which gives Rio a huge boost. But, Rio also has huge crime problems and other issues that may prevent it. Go Chicago!

Dean calls the Republican party the 'White Party"
NorthSideSox72 replied to EvilMonkey's topic in The Filibuster
Dean showing again what we all knew. He's good at putting together strategies, which have helped the Dem party raise such strong ground games at the grass roots level lately. But he's terrible in front of a camera. -

QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) any of you finance guys ever heard of a company called blue canyon partners? I have an interview w/ them next week for an econ research position. It's one of the first jobs I've gotten feedback from that seems legit. I'm not familiar with them, but they aren't really in one of the finance spaces I've been working in. Looks like they do B2B strategic consulting - not really finance per se, though finance and econ will undoubtedly be part of the picture. With consulting firms in general, a few things to look for, to give you an idea of how good a place it may be to work... --Client list --Typical work/travel schedule for their consultants - burnout? Long hours? --How is their partnership or ownership arranged?

Your first place Chicago White Sox!
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With the Sox and Twinkies tied, here is a quick look at remaining schedules... AVERAGE WIN PCT OF REMAINING OPPONENTS: CWS: .510 MIN: .498 PCT OF REMAINING GAMES ON THE ROAD*: CWS: 48.7% (19 of 39) MIN: 61.5% (24 of 39) * = one of the home games is the completion against BAL, which will be played there, but with the Sox playing as home team So, SOS is in MIN's favor by a little bit, but the Twins have a lot more road games remaining. -
QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 06:50 AM) This is so f***ing cool.I just cant see a human body being able to withstand that kind of force though. The idea behind this is, as I understand it from my physicist cousin, that you don't meet force with force. You don't propel matter through space in current state to those speeds. You instead open an envelope or slot, using multidimensionality or bent/curved space, which is externally so thin that it has near-zero resistance. Internally, you travel interdimensionally, so you don't have g-forces like you'd think of. When trying to project matter to the speed of light in previous attempts, at some speed like half light (or less), using a Gauss field or similar, the matter degenerates into something like what Trekkies would call plasma. (this is where one of the scientists on Soxtalk can inform me that I am misunderstanding the whole thing)
