How big reception will Pudge get on Thursday?
watchtower41 replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've been asking a lot of other Sox fans about this, but haven't found anything that can confirm nor deny. I seem to remember that the Sox had a welcome back Carlton Fisk day right after the new park opened and we gave him a motorcycle. Now I don't know if there was another falling out since then... does anyone remember this??? I wanna even say there was an Upper Deck baseball card for the occasion, but then again I could be getting mixed up with the one featuring Fisk and Ventura looking at the new park... Fisk/Ventura 1991 Upperdeck "Groundbreaking" nevertheless, awesome card. -
Pale Hose on ESPN Sunday Night Game of the Week
watchtower41 replied to elrockinMT's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My season ticket partner and I have our first patio party of the season for the Sunday night game, could'nt be more excited for the vibe in the park that night, I'm banking the Sox are gonna have pretty good attendance this week with the recent success and holiday approaching. Too bad we don't get to see Garland again this weekend. -
Has 8 errors so far on this young season, on pace for 32+ errors this year!!! His career high is 14. Obviously not trying to over-react, but most of the 8 so far this season have been during very critical moments in the game. Not only that, but the spectacular grabs down the line are becoming very scarce from him. With all the rehabbing, has he lost a bit with his glove?? Our team is obviously built around defense, should this be a concern that is at least so far, been way overlooked this season? Discuss.

5/15 gamethread: Sox (19-20) vs Angels (24-18); CSN; 9:05

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) I'd sit PK tonight. With Garland on the mound, he's a double play waiting to happen. I'd have to agree...even though Thome looks completely lost at the plate right now. I also think it might be asking a bit too much, Ozzie might want to go with the same line-up mixup for 2 games in a row to see if there is any chemistry there. On the opposite side of spectrum, I forsee Uribe seeing the ball well off Jon... and could be in for a good night. -

QUOTE (knightni @ May 15, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) BAKED I'm GOING, GOING.....BACK, BACK TO CALI CALI Lol I just noticed that pic on the mlb site, and had to do a double take... I was like is that really you Judy?? Word is, 5 o'clock shadows are very trendy in the O.C. right now. He seems very enthusiastic though. -
QUOTE (aprec32 @ May 13, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) "I didn't think I was ever going to say this before, but I really miss the place," said Cabrera of Anaheim. Sorry O-Cab, feelings are not mutual coming out of the Big A. They were smart enough to keep the better SS in Aybar, and still have the future in place with Wood. Now wake the F@*% up and stop dreaming you were still playing in Disneyland. Damn, I really want to like this kid too... especially with all the dirty Renteria s***.

Paul Konerko collected none of the White Sox's 14 hits in Monday's loss to the Angels, dropping his average to .218. There was a lot of talk this winter about the Angels bringing in Konerko as an "upgrade" to Casey Kotchman. Imagine just how disastrous that would have been to their chances. Not only does Kotchman have the better OPS of the two by 100 points, but the Angels probably would have had to give up Ervin Santana and more to make the deal happen.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2008 -> 08:21 AM) At least Red is going to do this until he dies! and get a statue while he's at it. GO RED!

The biggest story within the game tonight: Can Senor Juan get his third straight multi-hit game and rise above the Uribe line?? .200 is within sight JUAN!!! U CAN DO IT! -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 5, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) I just hope the idea isn't to have their most productive hitter "give himself up" to move Cabrera from 1st to 2nd. Why screw with Quentin's approach now? Bat him third and let him try to keep doing what he's been doing. Now, if the idea is to let him see even more fastballs in the 2 slot, that's OK, I guess. Good point... Can CQ bunt, or better yet will it be asked of him in this slot? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Dye's problems are 2-fold. First, he's hurt right now, and missing games = lower stats = harder to justify being included if you're not voted in. He's missed 3 games. Hardly enough to "lower stats" QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Second...one thing that's missing from the solid numbers JD has put up so far is the sexiest number...the HR tally. He's at 2. Tied with Uribe. There has to be some importance in that. If JD's hitting .300, putting up a near .900 OPS when the AS break rolls around, but he's sitting on like 10 home runs, that's just not going to be an all-star worthy resume for an outfielder in the AL in my eyes. His 2 HR's are a whole whopping 4 behind the overall AL leader. Alex Rios only has 2 HR's with a .330 average, does he not belong on the team?? You've seen it, I've seen it.... JD can and does hit 5-6 HR's in a week in a half when he has to the stroke working. Not saying he definitely belongs on the team as of right now, but with a top 10 average and an all-star resume, he definitely belongs in the conversation.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Outside of CQ, who else is really worth voting for out of position players? I'd say Crede has a shot right now, currently #2 in the AL in OPS amongst 3rd basemen (Somehow behind Beltre?). AJ has the highest OPS amongst catchers in the AL right now, but he's been hitting in Uribe territory for the last week. Thome's winning the DH game right now, but that's in no small part because a lot of DH's have been ice cold (Thomas, Ortiz, Hafner, Sheffield). I'd say Dye would have a pretty good shot as well, not only for his hot start that has gained nationwide/fantasy attention, but he also has a reputation to go off of....somebody the fans, coaches and players would normally give the nod to over a first-timer. These are all mute points though, because there are still a full 75+ days until the mid-summer classic in the Bronx.

Wow... this is becoming worse than Christmas decorations in October. Are we really voting on the All-Star game already?? Next year, I fully expect MLB to open up balloting at Spring Training. I'm sure Alexei wouldn't mind.

Thanks for the input fellas, nice to know that there's a bit more to do than just hit up the Mall of America during the day. Obviously kidding, but I've only been up to the Twin Cities twice, and both during the winter when you couldn't do jack outside. I'm thinking it would make for a nice little mid-week/weekend roadtrip for a relatively inexpensive get-away.
-
Speaking of the Twinkies, I'd like to get some real impressions from people who have taken the trip to the Metrodome in the past. This stadium won't be around for long, and even though most fans bash the place as the biggest s***hole in MLB, I'd really like to take the initiative to make the roadtrip up there for a 3 game series against the Sox. For those who have been, would you reccomend it??

QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) I'm shocked he's not owned already. I've been trying to trade for him. I'm considering trading Hawpe for him. had 32 and 31 point weeks over the past 2 in head-to-head leagues. RAKING. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) There was a time not that long ago when Alexi Ramirez was starting over Carlos Quintin......... What Opening Day?? Jesus people, give Alexi a break... he is a rookie. He's not gonna have the discipline of Tony Gwynn. After a week of whining to bench Uribe, you are finally seeing that we don't have another option at 2B right now. I think its hilarious for all who think we can just plug Fields in over there and get a Chase Utley prototype. -

I say lets throw a Soxtalk Patio party the next time Detorit is in town, just to let Edgar and give him a little heads up during BP...let him know who has O-Cab's back. I'll bring the monopoly money. What a shady bastage.
