BUMPED::::::Toby Hall Possibly out for the season
watchtower41 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I love how 90% of this board is freaking out like the season is over with this injury, yet fail to remember we brought home the hardware with Chris F'n Widger as our back-up. Yes, the same Chris Widger that wins MVPs of the 16" softball tournaments across the country. Ease up kiddies, we could have much bigger problems on our plate right now. Take Minnesota for instance, deciding who to make thier #3 (let alone #5) Sidney Ponson or Ramon Ortiz. A classic win-win situation. -

The shots KU made against SIU did not fall against UCLA, and that's the only difference I see between the 2 games. Fighting through 2 defenses like that is easy to praise after the fact. Truth of the matter is, this all the comebacks endured on the little run the Jayhawks had, they finally gave in and broke.... I'll give all the credit the world to UCLA for stepping up and hitting the big shots time and time after again. Certainly I feel KU could beat that team on a better day, but so is March Madness, and UCLA was far and away the better team on Saturday. Self didnt have the best gameplan, but it should have been good enough if they would have excuted on the opportunities, and there were plenty of them. Nice year, now just waiting for everyone to comeback at a chance of a undefeated season LOl -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) Also, I'm hoping Jamaal gets a shot in the NBA. He's a plus defender, he's quick as all hell and when he wants to, he can score at any time. I wouldn't be surprised at all if somebody took a flier on him in the 2nd round, seems like thie kid has great upside. -

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Are you kidding?!?!?! $6.25 for a beer!!!!! No way! looks like that will be the case, the one category where I wish we didnt beat the Cubs in. Fans will cry in $6 beers if Cubs don't meet expectations March 21, 2007 BY ELLIOTT HARRIS Sun-Times Columnist Along with on-field expectations at Cubs games, beer prices at Wrigley Field will be going up. A reliable source says vendors were informed at orientation last week the cost of a 16-ounce can will be $6 this season, a 25-cent increase from 2006. That would mean the Cubs have caught up to the White Sox -- in terms of what a fan would pay for a beer. Except that the Sox are expected to raise their beer price from last season's $6 by 25-50 cents. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) I think Florida and Oregon might both win big here. These games look like total mismatches IMO. Agreed. I'll take a Gators romp, or at least by 10. Oregon is playing at the top of their game right now, and may just have to end UNLV's sweet run adruptly, I actually like the Ducks to head to Atlanta. -

They may not have all the size in the world, but I am convinced that SIU is the best defense I've seen all year. Mata can bring whatever kind of pressure he wants tomorrow. Kansas favored by 2. -

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) SIU has 22 pts off turnovers, KU looked like they were playing Bradley and Bucknell, i had that queezy midmajor loss feeling again. I for one am very happy we got this far, why not push it further. I'll def agree with that first sentence. But don't be satisfied with a Sweet 16 or Elite 8, youre a Jayhawk fan. Softer KU teams would have certainly lost last night, but they took really smart shots and that kept them going through the turnovers and missed free throws. SIU defense and chemistry was incredible, and I'll have to agree w/ Jimbo thats about the most intense 40 minutes of hell I've ever seen a Jayhawk team face. I figured the Hawks would need at least 60 to put themselves in good shape to win, and the amazing shooting percentage barley got them there. SIU is a GREAT team, and had they faced another top seed such as Ohio State, Memphis, maybe even a Carolina, I'd bet they'd still be dancing. But I believe this Jayhawk team really is different. U gotta be pretty strong mentally to get through what they did last night. ROCK CHALK. -

Word out of Kentucky for replacement...... Crean. interesting also, Tubby looks like a done deal Lexington's WKYT-TV broke into programming at 3:10 p.m. Thursday afternoon to report Smith met with his team less than an hour before that and informed them he would be speaking with Minnesota. The station, which is the official television partner of UK, cited a source "uniquely close to the situation" as saying Smith told his players he was accepting the job. Officials at UK did not return phone calls this afternoon before news broke on Minneapolis television stations as well as WKYT. WKYT sports anchor Rob Bromley, the host of the Tubby Smith Show, reported on air that he spoke with Smith around 3 p.m. and Smith said he was "checking it out" when asked about the Minnesota position. -

Like previous posts have said, Tubby is a great defensive coach.... but an average recruiter based on Kentucky standards (which there are few if any higher) He's had some studs throughout the years, but also passed on some great talent. The most recent case is where he let Mr. Kentucky Chris Lofton just leave to Tennessee in favor of Joe Crawford. Oops. Nevertheless, this would be a STEAL for Minnesota to grab a coach of his caliber. -
Should be a nice competition with Michigan with a little conference rivalry for the best "free-agent" coach.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) I would hope he isnt saying that Xavier shouldnt have been in the tourney. U would hope I didnt mean Xavier moreso than the your first question with the Buckeyes?? I didnt, but plenty of the media and "experts" that are bashing the hell out of the Big Ten right now sure didnt think Xavier was too worthy when the brackets came out. Go ahead and ask Jay Bilas, Andy Katz, or Clark Kellogg (a big ten guy) what they think of the Muskateers. You originally asked where all the Big Ten bashing was coming from, and how it is justified....I guess it took me a couple posts to get across, but there you have it. -

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) I think he meant getting ousted by a team (xavier) in the tourney that didnt belong there, kind of referencing that it would be a sad way to end the year. true. That being said, I do think the Buckeyes are a premier team this year, and the test aganist Xavier could be exactly what they needed to get thier juices flowing again. I certainly wouldnt mind, I have them winning it all with the best bracket I have left. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Thats not what won them the game at all. A player who snuck in a loophole transfer before the rule was abolished hit 3 3-pointers late in the game to give it to UNLV. UNLV shot 50 percent from behind the 3 point line, leading the way was Kruger who hadnt hit a shot all tourney long. I would say that had much more to do with it than some phantom defense comment. KK is a great story and made some clutch shots in the 2nd half, but I would hardly give him all the credit for this win. Tucker was 4-11, Taylor was 6-16 with 3 turnovers. UNLV held onto a 12 point lead at halftime, despite Krueger missing his first several shots... and squandered that lead early 2nd half when they couldnt protect the ball and Kruger took some more erratic shots. They could/should have won by a lot more. Sure he hit a couple big 3's with 5-6 minutes left, which basically ended the mini-Wisconsin run, but he was 1-7 before that stretch and was a big reason why Wisconsin was able to cut into the lead so quickly. Terry with his huge 6 points late was much bigger of a dagger for Bucky from UNLV's offense. But their defense set the tempo of this game early on. As far as the overrated Big Ten talk goes, I think most of the bashing they are getting on a national level is regarding their so-called elite teams. The Big Ten was always looked at as a solid conference this year, and I think the tourney teams showed that for the most part in the 1st round. The knock against the conference has always been that its not as "top-heavy" as it seemed to be this year, and I think that holds some merit. If Ohio State doesnt get a 3 pt prayer, theyre on the couch right now, getting ousted in tourney that many didnt believe belonged. Wisconsin was down 18-2 on A&M CC. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) Well, that one flew right over your head. I'm pretty sure the exclamation point meant sarcasm... Yeesh, don't you Jayhawk fans know what sarcasm is? LOl sure did. We are very fragile bunch this time of year. Hell, I was starting to get pissed when they started the Rock Chalk chant with over 2:00 minutes left and we were only up 12. But like Jimbo said, its March, it doesnt matter if your team plays Oral Roberts or UNLV, a win is a win. -

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) Well wouldn't ya know it? Between yesterday and today, I finally decide to pull the trigger and my size has SOLD OUT! OOF. I was so pissed that I hunted all over the 'net--these things are not easy to find and forget Ebay--BUT did manage to get what I really wanted all along: The 1959 home jersey, #11. I literally got the last one in my size by ordering direct from the manufacturer. I guess all's well that ends well. Maybe the 1968 one next year. The reason why these can be tough to find is Mitchell & Ness actually makes all of their jerseys as limited editions. Once they are sold-out of a particular size, they are gone forever. So many of these jerseys, though they already are steep in price to begin with, actually appreciate over time. I've seen M&N Bo Jackson, Michael Jordan (Sox) and Ventura all go for well over 250$ before. Glad you found what you were looking for, I have no doubt you'll love it and wear it with pride.

Incredible game at the UC yesterday, and thats about as good as I've seen Kentucky play. Kansas just couldnt miss in the 2nd half, sending the legions of Jayhawk nation into a frenzy. This team is quickly becoming one of my favorite all-time Kansas teams, they are a clockwork machine right now....with themselves as the only way to stop it. Its very encouraging to know that even though Sherron was a bit off his game yesterday, and Arthur didnt really contribute at all, they were still able to easily plug pieces togehter and control the tempo (once there was one). All that being said, I'm speechless over the game that Julian Wright had. Have nothing but respect for this Saluki team, I've really enjoyed watching them play when I could this year. I'm looking forward to a great game and by no means taking SIU lightly. Kinda shocked the spread is a much is it is at 8.5, if that holds.... this will be the first time I dont go to the window with the Jayhawks in mind this March. ROCK CHALK & VIVA LAS VEGGGGGAS!!! -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) Well Oral Roberts won @ KU, and MSU beat Texas. So Im not sure that either of them really on their own without winning 1 good OOC game tell me much. They also lost to a very poor LSU team... I mean outside of Florida, KU does not really have any good wins. And Texas has no good wins outside of the Big 12 I believe. So the real question is, What has the Big 12 done this year to prove that any of their teams are going to be successful? Hype is fun and all, but when your conference doesnt go out and beat other conferences its hard to believe that something is going to change drastically in the tourney. Still bitter about Wisconsin losing out on that 1 seed to Kansas are we??
