  1. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) I'm not sure it'll ever happen either, but if interleague is going to less of an "event" the leagues should be the same. I'm torn though on which way I'd like to see it go. I like the idea of DH because it gives guys like Dunn, Thome, Thomas, etc. to have longer careers. In addition, it takes away the "automatic out" of a pitcher hitting. On the flip side, when teams have a pitcher hit, it adds strategy. Overall, I suppose making the DH MLB-wide would be the way to go. I know this is a somewhat contentious topic (probably less so on an AL team's message board), but the "adding strategy" thing doesn't fly with me. Pitchers are so specialized that the smart ones (see: not Carlos Zambrano) spend almost no time working on their hitting. Making pitchers bat "adds strategy" for managers the same way casting Vin Diesel in a movie "adds strategy" for a director. "How can I mitigate this disaster" doesn't seem all that interesting to me.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) I'm sick of the All-Star break. I want some White Sox baseball. Amen! Though if it means doing a hard reboot on Adam Dunn's OS, I'm all for it
  3. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) I'd say F+. He passes, but barely. a JUNIOR...western bacon chee
  4. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 01:52 AM) I wonder if there are other reason for that. Too bad the worst commissioner in professional sports doesn't have a uniform policy. David Stern doesn't have a uniform policy?
  5. QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) I'm always impressed by Dunn's attitude. Seems like a great guy. It was cool watching the guys sitting together on the bench having a good time. Also impressed with the KC crowd last night. When Butler struck out and walked back to the dugout to a rousing standing ovation, the camera caught Peavy turning to Dunn and saying something. I couldn't read his lips but I imagine he was saying something along the lines of, "now these fans appreciate the game". Anyway, despite the outcome, it was still a fun game to watch. Didn't get to see the game (work) so I'm not sure how this scenario played out, but what's impressive about the home crowd cheering for a player from their team in the all-star game? Seems like what you'd expect.
  6. If Adam Dunn were the type of hitter who could change his approach dramatically from pitch to pitch, you wouldn't see the extreme statistical profile on the back of his baseball card. Dunn's approach at the plate is: wait for a pitch I can hit 500 feet. That results in a lot of pitches seen, thus a lot of walks and a lot of strikeouts, and when he gets his pitch he often kills it, so a lot of home runs. What's happening on the infield is irrelevant to his approach, and I don't know that I want him tinkering like that when we know his tactics can get him to the all-star game.
  7. If Adam Dunn comes up with runner(s) on, he should be swinging for the fences. If Adam Dunn comes up with nobody on, a walk is as good as a hit (and probably more likely to occur than a successful bunt from a man who hasn't bunted since little league), so you'd rather just see him take his normal approach. Even the occasional bunt hit won't get them to stop shifting against him.
  8. (#5 in AL in runs) + (#3 in AL in fewest runs against) = #3 in MLB in run differential
  9. Carl Everett. I wanted to be a paleontologist until I was like 15 and I'm interested to hear his thoughts
  10. As of last night, the White Sox have scored more runs (366) than the Yankees (365). That's good for 4th most in the AL behind Texas (419), Boston (402) and Toronto (381). Awesome.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) I think the tweet was from yesterday but just got posted today. Ahh okay that makes sense. He is available tonight then?
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin Crain not available tonight, should be available Friday according to Robin Am I wrong about what day it is?
  13. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) Or...if he doesn't pan out... Omogro-SOSO Mmm, I think the obvious choice here is "OmiGROSS!o" Seriously, holy roster transactions! I don't think we've seen this much internal shuffling in a long time.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) Both from the eye test and the long performance slump, I think Mitchell is still a long stretch of development away from being big league ready. Would have said the same thing about JorDanks not long ago
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) Ha, that's awesome. Somebody else on here said it first, I don't remember who. Possibly Balta?
  16. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) Looked like a pretty wide strike zone being called. That plays well for Axelrod and they took advantage. That works for me. Really? Gamecast made it look like half the balls were actually strikes. Either way, it worked out for our Arod!
  17. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Well, as I was saying: Viciedo has to stay in the line up. He's a MONSTER!!!! Like!
  18. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) I love watching this Alex Rios play. Hawk on the radio said he did not like the Axelrod match-up tonight. Speaking of which, I need to continue doubting our pitchers just as much as Marty needs to continue doubting Viciedo. I keep thinking Q and A will fall apart but they just keep chugging along! Love the taste of my own foot.
  19. Sad that this game was blacked out for me, as this was probably the game I would most like to have seen. Stupid Albany!
  20. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) I haven't seen Odog used as a defensive replacement once this year, maybe I missed it? he either starts or doesn't play at all. To be fair, Youkilis has been on the team for, like, 3 days
  21. Marty, just put "trade Viciedo" in your sig so he can be hot continuously
  22. Axelrod getting squeezed? Gamecast makes a lot of those balls look like strikes.
