  1. RIOS! That was awesome. Never seen the reporter get the shaving cream pie before, either.
  2. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 11:17 PM) ^^^ The post you're agreeing with is incorrect. It's a $22M option with a $4M buyout. The marginal cost is $18M, not $14M.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) This is totally wrong. First of all there is no such thing as a tear in a scapula. The scapula is a bone and it can fracture but not tear (unless you are skeletally immature but that's another story). With a diagnosis of something that doesn't exist no one could possibly know the outcome. Even if the injury existed, it said a grade 1, which is a mild strain that would in no way require surgery. That's why all along it had nothing to do with what was reported and still doesn't. My guess is it was supposed to say subscapularis, which makes more sense.
  4. Moving back to Illinois later this month, so if it's late enough I might be down
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) Since the Boston series where he was the star, Youk is 4 for 37. Still 8 walks in that timeframe though, two shy of Alexei's walk total for the year
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) Yes! In a perfect world, his next deal should be for three years. That's provided he finishes this year's WS healthy and as good as he is right now. The problem is if Jake finishes the season pitching as well as he is now, he'll probably get four years from somebody. I do believe that's the case. And given Kenny's track record, I doubt he signs Peavy for that length of time. I'm fully prepared for Peavy to walk at the end of the year. He'd be hard to replace, but I just don't see KW paying a premium for someone with Jake's track record of injury, on top of diminished velocity (granted, he's pitched extremely well despite the reduced speed, but it's gotta be a concern when looking 4-5 years down the road).
  7. If he commands more than 3/$45M, I don't want. Can't sign someone with his durability concerns to a contract longer than that, or more lucrative. Even the numbers I just stated would make me nervous.
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) I don't think there was a ton of outrage at the hire, but moreso at the hiring process. Honestly, it was a very awful awful process that no one can defend. KW lucked out. And I'm a huge KW fan, but just terrible. Agree that it's a bad hiring process. Disagree with the bolded. There was probably a fair amount of character evaluation that led KW to believe that Ventura was a good clubhouse fit, and probably a lot of statistical analysis to show that the rest of a manager's job is relatively unimportant. That's not luck, that's good work leading up to the interviews.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 03:06 AM) Of course I wanted the Sox to dump him. He was a disaster. There were a few people that said he'd return to his norm. Looks like a lot of GMs agreed with me. Not one GM saw Dunn turning it around, because nobody tried to trade for him. Whoever said the Sox should keep Dunn no matter what, stand up and take a bow. He's having a very good season. Greg, that is terrible reasoning. Perhaps he wasn't on the block because it was clearly an anomalous season?
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) He's like the salmon of Capistrano. He...what? Spawns upstream on a yearly basis? That could explain why he's so much better in July.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) LOL, the Yankees aren't even an option in the poll? Not to mention this subject is so insanely subjective and variable from person to person that there really is no substantive discussion to be had. Wins? Titles? Penants? Attendance? Ballpark experience? Cost to attend games? Fan treatment in general? Personalities? Hall of Famers and great players? Uniforms? Not to mention, not White Sox related
  12. Why isn't this in Diamond Club? What's the Sox angle here?
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Meh, I get his point, but it's not like Robin is a gimmicky type manager, his poise has been outstanding this season and I am not worried at all about the pressure getting to him down the stretch. Of course he'll make mistakes, but every manager, yes including steady Leyland, will make mistakes. Especially fun coming from Jerry Manuel
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) Sole possession of 1st place... Gotta love day games!
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) He's probably not getting traded before the deadline. I'm just saying that if a deal called for Beckham, they wouldn't hesitate moving him like they would have 2-3 years ago. Say the Diamondbacks and Sox got together on something bigger, and Beckham and Aaron Hill were part of it? Something like that. It probably won't happen, but that's what I'm talking about. Gotcha, and agreed. Yeah, I think something in the offseason is likely, but only if KW shores up the higher priorities first. Beckham is bad, but I think there will be bigger concerns so if he can't figure out a convenient replacement, I doubt KW presses the issue.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:00 PM) Package deal, not one-for-one. That should have gone without saying. I just don't understand what sort of package you're referring to. Are you thinking that Beckham has value as a piece of an upgrade to the rotation or something? That I could see, but we're not gonna get a 2b back if we do that, and we will be stuck with Hudson or Escobar like you said you didn't want.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) No, I don't think it will be Escobar or Hudson either. I'm saying they'll trade him for another major league 2B if the right deal is available. If not, he stays the rest of the season, and they'll find a way to move him in the winter. Why would we trade Beckham for another 2B of equivalent calibre? If not equivalent calibre, why would they give this player up for Beckham?
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) I think this is it for him in Chicago. He's either getting traded in the next 6 days, or they'll move him in the offseason. Some NL team will take his glove and think they can get his bat going. It may be something he wants himself by that point. And just play Hudson at 2B for the rest of the season or something? Beckham's playing badly, but I'd rather have him for 60ish games than Hudson or Escobar. I just don't see how such a move makes sense.
  19. It's not "it" for Beckham until something better presents itself. I suspect that KW's offseason priority list includes securing 3B and some SP spots before replacing Beckham.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) I don't see why we couldn't bring back bother if we bump up the payroll a little and replace Floyd with a cheap, internal option like Castro. I'd be happy with a rotation of Sale, Peavy, Danks, Quintana, and Castro next year. From a payroll perspective, it can't be that much more than what we're paying our staff now, even with Danks' raise. Obviously the tricky part would then be fitting Youkilis in the budget, especially with AJ an unknown. If I had to, I'd trade Thornton to a team like the Yankees to clear his salary. I think it can be done with some maneuvering, but we'd definitely need to increase payroll by $10 million or so. This idea sounds possible to me, but it'd depend on the second half of this season. If we're not incredibly close to the postseason, I don't think it makes sense to pour all that money into 1-year options.
  21. Amongst the lowest class of humans are people who hit the people they supposedly love, or use physicality as a means for control. Using other means to gain control is no better, but often harder to prove. It's not accurate to say I won't root for Brett Myers because the only reason I'm watching games is to see the Sox win. I'm rooting for an outcome in his favor, but it's in spite of him, not because of him. Not at all mad at KW for acquiring a d-bag, because avoiding bad personalities would likely require creating the worst team ever.
  22. Totally in support of enforcement of this rule. We want a diversity of opinions so we shouldn't push people out through personal attack. Clarification question: is it still cool to question people's sincerity if you think they're baiting? Borders on insulting, but could be true and keeps discussions intellectually honest.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) The White Sox haven't made a trade with Minnesota since Hawk was the GM. I don't think they will make a deal with them now. I thought about this too, but then I considered that Minnesota probably hasn't been this bad since Hawk was GM either, so maybe...
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) Stunt his growth all you want because getting a guy with a .385 obp when you are in a pennant race is worth it Marty, if you were to be totally honest with us (tall order), would you say you truly believe Juan Pierre will continue to perform at a level at or near his current 2012 pace? If so, I'll vehemently register my disagreement but stop arguing.
