Past that, we would have $18 million less dollars to find a top end SP, closer, and RF, only to block our next best hitter from playing time.

That arm will give him additional chances. Personally I think they bring in another starter, with Dunning and Cease slotting in at the 4th and 5th starters next year, with Lopez fighting for a spot as well. Kopech will start off on a throwing program and be back in May or June if one of them fails or there is an injury.

It would surprise me to see Mazara back, at least early on. He is in his final arb year, after being a $5.5 million contract last year. We are probably talking the same money or more if he goes to a session. I think he is a pretty clear non-tender, though maybe they try to bring him back on a smaller deal after his hits free agency.
