  1. And if any teams out there think Mendick is the superior player, I would love to make a deal with them that reflects Danny' status as a projected 2B starter in the majors.
  2. While he was great with the bat, he was AWFUL behind the plate last night. Uncharacteristically so.
  3. It is a false idea that there isn't a significant difference between the skill level of a 80 win team and a 90 win team. Especially if we are going to play a series of games and not a single game, while you will have upsets, the creme will still mostly rise to the top. I mean look at the NCAAs. They play one game to move on, they have upsets early, but at the end of the day, the Final Four is almost always elite teams, with an occasional fluke mixed in.
  4. Can become a millionaire is a significant move of the goalposts from must be a millionaire. It is also a much bigger move from the speaking in racist code idea that somehow the league with the most black players, yet a lower crime rate than the nation at large, Congress, or the current Presidential Administration, is somehow the thing associated with felons.
  5. Half the league doesn't see that money, so they get nothing. Another big chunk of the league is playing these extra games at a much lower rate than if they were making regular salary. The only spot where players make a real chunk of money is getting to the World Series.
  6. That is trash, and the Dodgers are a great example of why. They were a lock to get into the playoffs this year, yet still went out and brought in Mookie Betts.
  7. Owners make a LOT more money in the playoffs, which is why they want them. A guy like Mike Trout isn't making $35 million a year in the playoffs, he is making the same as everyone else.
  8. You would need to save literally all your money on the lower end of the pay scale during your 3.3 year career to be a millionaire. Your math STILL doesn't work.
  9. So by the time you take taxes and agents money out of this, and then consider that the average NFL career is 3.3 years, your math is still bad.
  10. Most players make less for the playoffs than the do the regular season, especially as you get deeper into the playoffs. it is just more money for the owners who are paying their star players a fraction of what they usually make.
  11. Less pay for more games is what it boils down to for most players on the pay scale.
  12. Yeah the residual effects of COVID are going to make for some of the deepest drafts in MLB history.
  13. He's not going to ever be paid like a top notch superstar, but that doesn't mean that savings aren't there to be had. There is plenty of WAR to be gotten by playing elite defense, running the bases well, and hitting .300
  14. With no off days during these series, they have to go five starters, unless they plan on day 5 being a bullpen day and just decimating the pen.
  15. Or that his illness is still sapping his power, but feel free to continue.
  16. Correct. He didn't play organized ball until his Jr year of HS.
  17. I see a ton of Bo Jackson in Luis Robert and his raw tools
  18. There is typically a bit more pay up front, and a lot less in the back end. They paid for those savings early on, and are now raking in the savings. $850k as a mid season call up $1m full year one $1.4m year two $4m year three $7.25 year four Take Lindor as a comp, and a guy who was called up at about the same time of season, and has gone year to year $540k- mid season call up $579k-1 $623k-2 10.85m-3 $17.85m-4 Mookie Betts $514k $566k $950k $10.5m $20m
  19. You should really become familiar with 1st round draft pick history.
  20. I can say 100%, Tim Anderson is my favorite player on this team. I mean it is easy to say a guy who gives you the best stats on a team is your favorite, and many do. For me, it isn't JUST what he does on the field, but the way he lives his life. He gives back to his community. He loves his family and his teammates. He plays the guy with his heart on his sleeve. He has a ton of work ethic. He hasn't been afraid to assume the mantle of leadership, both on this squad, but also in his community and for this franchise. Nothing was as powerful as watching him work publicly through the murder of his best friend, and putting himself out in public while trying to heal and cope. Finally, the TA story is a great success story for this franchise as well. We heard forever that this team couldn't draft or develop position players. They took a chance on a raw position player who barely played baseball in HS, and didn't play much as a small school JuCo player. Heck Gordon Beckham had more ABs his final year of college than TA had in all of his college experience. But the Sox drafted him in the first round. Many people felt he was rushed through the minors and to the majors. He was still a raw and toolsy kid when he got to Chicago, and made a ton of mistakes. But he learned and worked through it. Many felt his extension was premature and there were no savings to be had in it, even if he did succeed. The talk after TA got here was how many amazing SSs there were in baseball, and that Timmy was a level under all of them... at best. Yet at every single stage of this mans professional career his worked past it, and exceeded pretty much everyone's expectations. Tim Anderson is an incredible person, as well as an MVP caliber player. The kid has a fan for life in me.
  21. I know Tim Anderson is a hot topic this year. I am old enough to remember who many people were upset about his extension being done too early. Now is when that starts paying dividends. in 2021 TA would have been in his first arb year. His deal is paying him $7.25m in 2021. Last year Cody Bellinger got a record $11.5 million for his year one Arb. Previously Kris Bryant has $10.85 million. Even if you want to say that Timmy is a notch under them, what are we looking at $10 million? The savings there is the cost of a low middle reliever or back up utility IF. Next year the savings will be even bigger if Anderson keeps this up.
  22. They did it with Bummer, Santos and other relievers, I have no doubt they have been to both Nick and Andrew Vaughn to try to get deals done. It is the Rick Hahn way.
  23. I am 100% sure they already did.
