  1. In the history of baseball the one thing you can almost always be right on is betting that salaries will continue to go upwards. I know the last two years have been an crazy exception, but I would bet by the time that Eloy could be a free agent in 2026, the dollars we are talking about now will be a bargain.

  3. This is exactly how I feel. Eloy is one of the few guys who I could see being an instant star in this rebuild.
  4. Take a guess at how many SS's last year put up a .360 OBP. I will save you the work. 2. 8 SS's hit .270 or better. 5 SS's hit 25 HR or more. There was literally 1 SS in all of baseball who put up .270 AVE, .360 OBP, and 25 HRs. And he just got 300 million dollars worth of a contract.
  5. Chris Sale, Adam Eaton, and Jose Quintana are why you sign a guy before he proves himself. The cost of a proven guys goes up by multiples.
  6. This dude is a one man global warming epidemic with these hot takes.
  7. For those missing Avi, sounds like he is missing us too... or at least baseballs.
  8. If he isn't great, he isn't getting 9 figures. It isn't going to be both ways.
  9. It isn't going to be a $100 million deal unless Eloy is a star. If he is, this will be a bargain. If he isn't, we are going to be talking about less than half of that. $100 million is an agents number.
  10. So all three TJS are guys who came in from other organizations in Kopech, Dunning, and now Puckett. It probably doesn't mean anything, but interesting to note.
  11. Also cost certainty and no negotiations.
  12. If it does get done, I would bet on the promised money being less than $50 million, and probably more like $40.
  13. Based on the White Sox history and the history of these kind of deals it seems obvious to me, but if you feel like you need to freak out about this, feel free.
  14. That is exactly what they mean and how a deal like this would get done.
  15. There will be. 100%. Think of the basic structure of the Anderson/Sale/Q/Eaton deals looked like.
  16. Which is exactly what I said. Your front ends are too heavy. The Sox aren't going to create a deal that breaks records in each year. The heaviest years will be the FA years, which will be options. I laid out a 6/39 deal up front, with the last $60 million coming in years 7 and 8 earlier that also follows a decent arb progression. A few dollars push up front, while it gets WAY bigger at the end. 19- $1m 20-$1.5m 21-$2m 22-$5m 23-$10m 24-$20m 25-$30m* 26-$30m*
  17. Your front ends are heavy and your back ends are light based on what arb figures are and the types of dollars that usually come in those years.
  18. They won't put that much money into the front 3 years, because they don't want to establish a precedent that other teams could use.
  19. It won't all be guaranteed. The end will be options, just like every single other deal like this that has gotten done.
