  1. I am surprised by people who would spent a month complaining about the exact same thing, in the exact same way, though when you have people complaining about things from 40 years ago, I guess I shouldn't be.
  2. Mendick is not making this team out of spring training.
  3. The Sox can save a lot of money over that eight years if Eloy is anywhere near as good as he could be. For example if you overlay the Nolan Arenado first eight years, he is going to make just under $100 million. Harper and Machado would have similar numbers if you take their signing bonuses into account. Mike Trout is at $45 million for his first six years alone, plus the next two years at $34 million each to make $115 million for his first six years. In six years that number could be even bigger as I expect that spending will pick back up over that time period.
  4. And they still sent him down knowing all of this, when they could have just sat on him for another couple of weeks with no consequences.
  5. When you factor in that the going rate for stars on the open market is somewhere between $25 and $36 million per season TODAY, that makes the savings somewhere between $15 and $35ish million over those two years. It could be even higher in 6 years.
  6. This is probably going to be really close to right.
  7. Now an injury cover would make sense.
  8. Let me ask this another way... Has a player every been sent down in Spring Training only to be called up after an extension was signed?
  9. Which is exactly why Soxtalk has been a hole of a place the last month or so.
  10. Actually it makes it sound like all you need is a shiny new free agent to come back.
  11. They at least get plausible deniability if anyone were to ever file a grievance over it, especially if they were to still keep him down.
  12. A Moncada extension will either be much shorter, or much more expensive, if he has a big season.
  13. I think it sends the message that he is only being called up because he was signed. I don't think the Sox want to send that message, since he was already sent down.
  14. Early years a bit more, later years a lot less, and progressively less with each year.
  15. I mean every single thread ends up at the same dead end over Machado. Does everyone really want to have the exact same discussion every single day, especially now that there are even spring games to talk about? It gets grating.
  16. I guessed exactly the years and structure when this discussion started, including guessing 6/39 for the first 6 years. I am glad the option years will be significantly smaller than was initially thought.
  17. I think they look worse if they send him down and then call him back up before opening day with the only change being his extension.
  18. They already used an option which makes me think no.
  19. As of today, this is it. Maybe in the next few months someone else pushes their way into this discussion, but there seems to be a clear top 3 as of March 20th.
  20. It been a month of this now, yet here you are.
  21. Apparently those rules apply to everyone but you, but what else is new.
  22. Lopez pitched this like a practice game. He isn't going to throw the same style when the games count. There is no need to worry about it. It is about getting in work, not how many Ks he gets in 5 innings.
