  1. The good news with Abreu is that the market for 1b/dh players keeps getting pushed lower and lower. I don't think we need to extend him anymore, as he will be signed a lot more cheaply than we would have thought even a couple of years back.
  2. Yeah, 5/150 isn't bad. The dollars are fair, but it will always be the years that worry me.
  3. He will make significantly less than than the most recent examples. I have outlined it at different points during these two extension discussions.
  4. He isn't getting paid any where near that level, which is the entire point.
  5. Chris Sale's extension was signed in 2013. Clearly it is going to be different than what Eloy is signing in 2019. But it is also worth noting what players were getting in free agency in 2013, and recognizing that six years of inflation are also in play there. Then project that forward to 2026. Top players aren't going to be getting $25 to $30 million a season then. I mean that is supposedly why everyone is so upset about how "cheap" the Harper and Machado deals were that the Sox didn't offer, so now the Sox have Eloy wrapped up for a fraction of those costs. The same applies to Q and Eaton as well. Anderson was never has highly ranked as Jimenez, and that deal was signed a couple of years ago.
  6. It is probably as simple as the news got out before the Sox were done with this.
  7. Especially since most of the people criticizing probably look closer to Cartman in the Warcraft episode.
  8. Not really, no. As I said, I could have inflated the numbers pretty easily, both to match the current top stars on the market, and to add in wage inflation over those 6-8 years.
  9. This is also not taking into account any wage inflation over those six years.
  10. And the Angels paid an extra $70 million for waiting versus what this deal covers. It is the poster child for getting a deal like this done as soon as possible.
  11. The Sox are going to pay Eloy $43 million for the same years that the Cubs will give Bryant $70 to $75 million for.
  12. And he got a 6/144 at that point, not a 6/43, and not a 8/75.
  13. This. For example, using the numbers above, none of which are records, but high end dollars TODAY, and not accounting for any inflation in 4 seasons. '22 getting $7.5, could be $10m= $2.5m savings '23 9m/16m = 7m '24 11.5m/24 = $12.5m '25 16.5m/25m = 8.5m '26 18.5m/25m= 6.5m Total saved in this scenario is $37.5 million on the end years. If you push his free agent years into the $30m range, based off thinking he will be a stage below Arenado and Trout, that pushes the savings to $47.5 million. If we get some wage inflation that pushes a free agent deal for him into the $35 million range, we are talking about nearly $60 million in savings.
  14. It is much harder as an athlete than that. You are typically accustom to high calorie and high activity. Completely changing to low calorie and no activity is not as easy as you act.
  15. Not to mention the dude hasn't been able to train the bottom half of his body for a year now. Losing weight without any cardio? Brutal.
  16. If you have already decided what is going to happen and this doesn't matter, why are you wasting your time watching spring games?
  17. That post makes a great commentary as to why it isn't either. Arenado last arb year was worth $26 million. He demonstrated what even 4th year salaries are doing. The free agent year is paying about half of what a top young free agent is worth now. They are paying a little more early to save a lot at the end. They could be saving $30 to $50 million over the life of this deal.
  18. I didn't think you could make this worse, but bravo. This deal does absolutely nothing to prevent the team from signing anyone else, in fact quite the opposite. This deal in 2019 gives Eloy something like $5 million, and less in 2020 after the signing bonus is paid out.
  19. No. Different years. Different contracts.
  20. This isn't just one dude tweeting. The details are out down to dollars per each year and signing bonus.
  21. Definitely not the OF. If they think he isn't going to be at 2B in the future, I would rather make the move now than later. Let him learn while the results don't matter.
