This. Even if the miracle of us being in the playoff race happens, I don't want to risk the arm of Michael Kopech to have it happen. It just isn't worth it.
Our President spent decades pretending to be some self-made man meanwhile cheating the American people on inheritance and income taxes while his father used outright lies and fraud to transfer wealth to him.
But I am guessing that isn't what you mean.

After two years of entering the lottery, I finally won tickets to see Hamilton in Chicago. I have been before, but I am so freaking excited to see it again, and finally in the $500 seats (for $10 each), which I haven't done.
This is the exact impression I had of the options that were being discussed for Machado as well. Essentially at some point in the contract there will be an option to add more years on to the back of the contract (maybe after year 3 or 4?) if the Sox exercise, the years are added, nothing extra happens. If the Sox do NOT exercise the option, then Machado can elect free agency that same off season.
The article is behind a paywall, but the talk of the International Class of 2019 is starting. Anyone want to let us know if the Sox are listed for anyone?
Having commitments and having ~two million dollars still open isn't mutually exclusive. This just means that the Sox have $3 million-ish or less in commitments (their allotment last year was just under $5m, so guessing it isn't too far above that this year), which as I said before, when you have had two years to focus on ONLY this market (no $300k+ signings for the last two years allowed) isn't comforting to me.
The process of getting most of the top kids starts when they are 13/14/15 years old. They aren't agreeing to sign right before July 1. A lot of times they are signed months to years in advance. The Sox would have an almost set idea of what they are spending on July 2, and if they still have a couple of million left after having two full years to focus on this year, it isn't good.
Information flow has been so bizarre this winter. Not sure of it is people trying to adjust to the new realities of free agency, or people trying to fill information voids, but it is telling when even someone like Rick Hahn sounds confused by how things have gone.
