Again, I really think if we had tried to stall Kopech for parts of 3 seasons in AAA, he would have filed a grievance and we would have lost. It is one thing when you are talking about Eloy who only played a partial season there, but Kopech spent time in 2016 and all of 2017 there until September. If they had tried to put him there AGAIN in 2018 after the 2017 he had, I don't think that would have flown. I mean Bryant and Eloy have talked about grievances for being sent back after partial seasons. I really don't think this would have flown.
No real surprise there, but honestly if you are this close to the starting line for free agency, there is literally no reason for you to NOT run the race. At worst you have to figure that the 10/300 is the starting point, not the ending point.
Again if Hahn said anything other than Eloy would have a fair chance to win a job in spring training he would have a grievance filed against the team and he would lose.
Honestly I think the order is different, but I said a few months ago that if they got a top guy, the odds of signing more free agents goes up, not down. If they sign Machado, they move the timeline forward. If not, they stick with the old timeline.
And both of their defensive play took big leaps forward this year. Anderson was really good almost all year long, and Yoan improved as his bat improved.
A promise that they will land a top FA. Again, there is no guarantee. No one has made such a promise. They have to go through the negotiation process and see what happens. This isn't OOTP where you just keep making the top offer and win.
I don't think anyone has made any promises of any sort. Of course there is no guarantee. Everyone who follows professional sports should know that though.
I think the extra money the teams are getting from outside sources, plus you to imagine that the new TV deal will at very least be an improvement over the last one, I would imagine the Sox ceiling for spending is higher than it was a few years ago.
