I did not drag Crochet into this discussion as a comp for Burke.

Crochet has always shown a top notch major league arm. He showed it over a period of years in the bullpen. The question wasn't how good he was, it was can he marathon instead of sprint. We know neither about Burke, and I have yet to see a single report of him being a future superstar. Even Law who sees him as really good, put two other White Sox pitchers ahead of him and didn't include him in his personal top 100. Solid to good? Sure. Garrett Crochet? Can we at least be realistic here?

If you are telling me to expect Sean Burke to be Garrett Crochet, I can't even take you seriously.

There is a difference between enjoying A baseball game, and this disaster.

Garrett Crochet always had superstar stuff in his arm. That is not applicable to anyone else who is going to be on this major league roster as a pitcher to open this season.

The Sox have gotten 1 guy in the last 25 drafts in the 3rd round who put up more than 5 total war in their entire MLB playing career. Hopefully he is more than our usual "dude" as only 8 of them put up more than a positive WAR in their major league career, with about half never making the majors at all.

Look, when you have a decades long season ticket holder telling the organization to f*** off, the problem isn't if the fans are big enough fans. Most people get that.

I want to see more of Smith before I judge. I want to see him go six innings to see if his stuff plays up in relief, or if he can do this for a full start. I have a bit of hope, but I am not ready to judge yet.

How Getz trades be agein

So Jerry must think he is a perfect 10, because he ain't doing a damned thing.

That whole trade was loaded with non-tenders and non-gonna happens on day one. We are down to hoping Riley Gowens overcomes the odds and gives us anything in a system where about 15 guys are ahead of him on the depth chart.

Almost all of the rotation is back end guys right now. The red meat won't get here for a year or two, hopefully. That whole string of Shuster, Nastrini, Canon, Martin, Wilson, etc, are guys you hope figure it out and give you that 4.5 era over 160 innings to fill some innings over the course of seasons. Maybe a Burke has more of a mid rotation ceiling, but there just aren't those guys here yet.

Even turning Vargas into a bat only something would be the nice start of salvaging that deal.

It's funny, as I have gotten older, I spend less and less time on professional sports in general, and more and more on amatuer. It isn't about perfection, otherwise no one would watch athletics in general. Just like I want to see an honest effort on the field, I also want to see an honest effort off of it. Right now the White Sox are the 400 pound dude on his chat board talking about "no fattys".
