  1. Wat? Ray had a career OPS of .788, with an OPS+ of 104. His first three years in the majors he put up OPS+ of 83, 95, and 91 in 1800ish PAs. Yoan Moncada is sitting at .735 and 102 OPS+ 600 PAs into his career and hasn't even scratched the surface of his potential yet. More accurately Ray Durham may be Yoan's FLOOR, and not his ceiling. Moncada's ceiling is somewhere more like Roberto Alomar or Robinson Cano.
  2. Eh. Soria will have somewhere around $4 million left for the year. I don't see salary being a big deal either way.
  3. How many first round picks were sent a higher level team? Looking at the top picks, narrowing even for guys who played in college this year: Casey Mize hasn't played yet. Joey Bart is at a half season low A team Alec Bohm is at a half season low A team Johnathan India is in rookie ball That makes Madrigal at the highest level out of all of the top five picks, as he is playing at a full season low A team.
  4. Out of all of the guys who might (realistically anyway) get dealt from the White Sox in the next two weeks, Soria might have the highest value. What kind of returns do people think we could get for him? Any names out there?
  5. He doesn't even have a cool name like Beer, Burger, or Bacon.
  6. I even mean they have a chance to play in our system. For example, trading for an OF at AA or below would be a waste, as they don't have enough spots to play the guys they have now, let alone another prospect. They need to target much more specific guys based on position and level. (for example LHPs or 3Bs)
  7. At this stage they need to find guys who they can play. For once, they have to be choosy about position and level.
  8. That's exactly what they have done. They haven't just dumped anyone as of yet. They have waited for return, if they get it, the player gets moved. If they don't get it, they stay.

  10. For my two cents, it would involve the Dodgers sending a player with a big salary plus a big prospect in order to free up luxury tax cap space. If we are talking White Sox and Dodgers for example, it could look something like Matt Kemp + Christian Santana for another Jake Peter type prospect to LAD. Sox take on a ton of cash this year (Kemp at $21m for this year, prorated though) , plus free up a spot for the Dodgers to make room for salary this year for Manny Machado (Machado at 16m, but prorated from the completion of a trade) to keep them from going over the luxury tax # this season. Also opens up a spot for a guy someone to go the OF, while Machado takes over an IF spot. NO IDEA if this works perfectly or not, but just a demonstration of an example that could work in theory. Definitely don't know either teams interest in a deal like this.
  11. Anything that puts more talent into our minor league system, especially without giving up talent to get it, is a welcome addition. They have a couple of interesting 3Bs for example who are solidly blocked at the major league level that would be great in our system.
  12. We quite literally got given Luis Avilan because we were willing to take on the salary of Joakim Soria.
  13. I would love it. They have a farm system that matches up with the Sox needs pretty well.
  14. At this stage, I would love to see the Cubs outbid someone for Machado (even though it sounds like they are out of the running). Bleed their farm system for a rental player that doesn't really move the bar for them. They need pitching WAY worse than the additional utility they would get for Manny.
  15. Good call, can never be too careful. Have to make sure that isn't contagious.
  16. If these deals are indeed true, the Orioles did themselves a big favor by better on holding on to Machado to the deadline.
